The SpaceThere are two bedrooms upstairs. The master has direct access to the bathroom through a tiny hallway and overlooks the water from the Cal king size four poster bed. The second bedroom has two single beds with views of the forrest. The upstairs bathroom has both a bath tub and a stand-alone shower. Downstairs, the living room on the south side of the house opens up with double sliding doors to a deck on the low bank above the beach access. The couch pulls out into a queen size bed with exceptional views of the water. The downstairs bathroom has a stand-up shower. The large, fully equipped kitchen is great to enjoy with a big group. With bar stools at the low counter that connects the kitchen to the living and dining room, the open layout feels inviting and relaxing. We stock all the essentials such as oils, vinegar, herbs and spices. There is a large rustic hard wood dining table next to the fireplace. Dining table seats 8 easily, with seats on both ends. Channelview House is situated on Paradise Point, which is tucked into a tiny bay and affords our guests peace, quiet and privacy. Enjoy sunsets from the deck as you barbecue your fresh local fish on the gas grill. Fresh fish can be found year-round and Dungeness crab is readily available in season. Plan your getaway to include walking on the ferry of your choice. Channelview House is about three minutes from the ferry landing in Orcas Village. Included in our pricing is a 10.02% Washington State tax on lodging. $100 cleaning will be collected at check-in. Guest AccessThe keys will be ready for you at the house. If you wish, we can meet you and show you around quickly inside, otherwise we're happy to give privacy and let you enjoy your vacation. Beach Access: Channelview House has a rock stairway down to a small beach, perfect for launching kayaks and dangling your toes in Harney Channel as you watch the boaters go by. Interaction with GuestsWe enjoy as much interaction with our guests as they wish. Concierge service is available to help you book your car, adventures, reservations and fine dining. If you don’t feel like cooking, catering services are available by pre-arrangement. For your convenience, we can also stock your pantry. Ask Lyndy, the innkeeper, for more information. The NeighborhoodThe Orcas village boasts a grocery, a deli (best one in the islands, in our opinion), a variety of restaurants and is a starting point for a full contingent of adventures including sea kayaking, whale watching, shopping and moped rentals. In the summer months, Orcas Village is bustling with fun. Eclipse Charters Whale Watching leaves from a dock alongside the ferry landing. There are plenty of spots to eat, inside and outside. The winter months are quieter on Orcas Island, however there is always good food, excellent views and most of all, a very welcoming ambiance. Getting AroundIt's important to reserve a place on the Washington State Ferries to get to and from Island. All reservations are done on their website and should be done a week or two in advance. In terms of public transportation, there is an efficient taxi service and seasonal bus to get around on-island. You can also rent cars, mopeds, bicycles, boats and kayaks to explore. The main town of Eastsound is just 15-20 minutes away by car. Other Things to NoteChannelview provides organic shampoos and conditioners. Cooks will appreciate the kitchen accouterments: items stocked for your use include organic olive oil, balsamic vinegars and an array of herbs and spices.

The New Gedney Estate is, quite simply, one of the most remarkable properties on Orcas Island (or anywhere for that matter.) It is now available for vacation rental on a limited basis. The dramatic 40 acre compound feels reminiscent of an exclusive New England lodge. The grounds are park-like, designed by landscape architect Richard Haag, with vistas across lush meadows, soaring trees and mossy knolls. When walking on trails weaving through the property you’ll come upon a children’s playhouse, outdoor theater, tipi, two private lakes, cabins, and a guest house. The delight of discovery is not limited to the outdoors; you’ll find the professionally designed interiors of each residence and sleeping cabins to be elegant, whimsical, rustic, and perfectly characterized. Each item of furnishing and décor, including fine antiques, thematic collectibles, and vintage “finds” has been carefully crafted and artfully placed for maximum comfort and visual interest. The primary residence is a grand “Barn” constructed of two historic 1800’s-era Vermont barns that were salvaged, transported, and reassembled into a fabulous Northwest country residence. The integrity of form and function will please the most discriminating; the center pitch soars to 26’, supported by solid timber posts, floors are original wide plank, the alcoves and loft create spaces of both volume and coziness. On opposite sides of the structure, huge doors open onto broad bluestone terraces; on one flank is an enormous hot tub; on the other, a BBQ and several teak tables for outdoor dining. In the quadrants of the soaring Barn you'll find a vintage billiard table, game table, big rock-faced fireplace, and the BowWow Bar complete with refrigerator, dishwasher, and TV. (Sorry, Bowser, despite the name, the owner’s dogs are the only ones welcome here.) In one corner, a gleaming Wurlitzer jukebox is stocked with an enviable collection of CD’s. The kitchen and dining spaces are warm and beautiful, featuring a huge wooden prep island, the best of contemporary appliances, and a large table with seating for 10. Also on the main level are a powder room, mudroom, and lovely bedroom with queen bed, sitting area, and en-suite bath with soaking tub and shower. Upstairs in the loft, there’s a 2nd TV, foosball table, 2nd powder room, & sofabed. Two elevated sleeping spaces are reached by climbing a walll mounted ladder (great for older children and spry adults.) Extended family and friends will love heading off to sleep in their own private guesthouse or cabins located in other sections of the compound. Just across from the Barn is The Paddock, a glamorous equestrian-themed bunkhouse. The Paddock contains a large bathroom, two queen beds (each within an alcove and draped for partial-privacy) and two sets of bunks built along one wall. The Paddock is perfect for a smaller family or children with nanny. Within a ten minute walk are two attached well-appointed lakeside cabins and a detached bathroom/bathhouse. One cabin contains a queen bed, the second contains two twins. (The cabins can also be reached by car.) Note that use of owner's watercraft and swimming in the lakes is prohibited. Up to four more guests will enjoy maximum privacy in a fully equipped guesthouse perched on a knoll at the further side of the property. This second residence features a wrap-around terrace overlooking a private lake, full kitchen, living area, laundry, and powder room. Two bedrooms and a full bath are on the upper level; one bedroom contains a queen size bed, the second contains two twin beds. The Guest House is a 15 minute walk through the grounds from the barn, but also has a direct gated entry. (The Guest House may be rented individually during the Quiet Season. Call the rental agent for details.) Please call our office for booking information. $55 Reservation Fee, $2500 refundable security deposit. $125 per night per person when more than 14 guests are accepted. This spacious Craftsman Bungalow has an adventurous past. In 1913, it was a fine residence on a nice street in Victoria BC. Then one day, this staid Victorian left the noise and bustle of the city behind. She embarked on a sea cruise, relocated to lovely Lopez Island, and settled into a peaceful new neighborhood with a beautiful ocean view, open spaces, & tall trees. In recent years, the house has been expanded, beautifully restored, and lovingly upgraded. As a result, Coho Lane House offers a rare and desirable combination of vintage and freshness. Traditional touches of yesteryear have been retained that include a rambling set of rooms, wainscoting and moldings, original fir floors, and windowseats. But the conveniences of today are incorporated into the home as well - a premier kitchen with stainless steel appliances, new bathrooms with elegant fixtures, WIFI, and satellite TV are all provided to make your stay in this vacation home an exceptionally comfortable one! Located at the end of a private lane, the house is surrounded by porches, a big deck, whispering fir trees, and a nice grassy lawn for children and dogs to play on. The waterfront is just below the bank, and you can get to the beach by going down the lane and taking a trail through the woods. (You won't want to miss wandering on those long sandy beaches in the nearby parks as well.) The home is warm and comfortable for just a few, but it's also very family friendly. To the side of the home is a huge deck where you can sit to enjoy the sun, BBQ, dine outdoors, watch passing ferries & boats, and just enjoy the beautiful waterfront scenery. The home is built on 3 levels. On the middle level you'll find the living room, dining area, kitchen, and a bedroom with a queen bed. On the lower level there's a game room with French doors that open up to the lawn and another outdoor seating area. One of the king bedrooms is on the lower level as well. The master bedroom with a king-size bed and the fourth bedroom with a queen sized bed are on the upper story. Up to eight guests can be accommodated on two king beds and two queens. When 10+ guests are accepted, there is a $50 charge per person per night. Beds are not provided for additional guests, so guests #9, 10, 11 or 12 will need to bring their own aerobeds and sleeping bags, etc.) Your pooch is also welcome to stay on this lower level. Both are roomy and have all the pots, pans, utensils and cutlery you'll need to feed your hungry clan. Enjoy your meals at the dining tables on each level. On those days when the clouds over Puget part and the skies light up with sunshine, there is a gas grill outside just waiting for your hamburgers, steaks, or salmon. And just for fun, get a blaze going in the firepit and have some fun under the Northwest sky! (Please note that wood is provided for the inside wood stove but you should bring your own wood for the outside firepit.) When you step onto Orcas Island, you step back in time! Less developed than its neighbor, San Juan Island, the island is a sea of green filled with gorgeous red madrona trees and lush foliage. With 40 miles of trails to explore, it's a hiker and cyclist's dream! Bring the camera to the top of Mount Constitution and get some breathtaking shots. Bring your appetite to one of the many eateries in Eastsound where you'll also find some wonderful shops where you can purchase every manner of pottery or artwork. Visit the farmer's market at the nearby public park. Or, just grab the equipment right there at the home and enjoy a fun game of horseshoes, volleyball, croquet, or badminton. Additional amenities include: cable / satellite TV, washer / dryer.

The Space480 sq feet lets our guest have private space with 2 bedrooms. Also a deck outside adds room on nice days and the propane fireplace will add cozy warmth on the days you want to stay in to journal or write that great novel. Guest AccessWe have 5 acres with an orchard, garden, pond and a barn where my art studio is. You can sit by the pond and walk around the property. Interaction with GuestsWe will for the most part be on the property during your stay and will be happy to answer any questions about our place and the island. The NeighborhoodWe are inland and live in a very sweet valley. A seasonal creek fills our pond. The 125 year old Orchard is lovingly tended by Bob for 45 years and has produced fruit for us and our community. It is close to the ferry making it nice to use our space as a home and travel on day trips to the other islands. Getting AroundThere is a shuttle available and taxi on Orcas but bicyclist can use The Orchard Cottage as a starting point to see all of Orcas and do day trips to other islands. It is 7 miles into the main town of Eastsound and 3 miles to Orcas Landing Ferry and Grocery. Other Things to NoteIt is on a paved county road with light traffic but the area is divided into 5 acre parcels so it is pretty quiet. You will also need to make ferry reservations at the Washington State Ferry San Juan Island's web site. You book a round trip and be sure to press the Finalize button to know you have made it all the way through. It is a bit confusing. The reservations are just that, you pay the round trip ticket at the Anacortes terminal. The spaces are released in tiers of 2 months then 2 weeks then 2 days before your date so log on to the web site at 7am and you can pretty much count on getting your space. No need for reservations for a bike or walk on passengers. Our Water on the Island is precious please conserve.

The SpaceSerenity Overlook is a cozy cottage, perfect for a romantic getaway or a weekend alone, soaking in the island. When you wake up in the morning, you can sit on the waterfront deck with a cup of coffee and watch the ferries come and go. The view is truly something special. What makes the cottages so special is the location. When you get off the ferry, you're at your private parking space in moments. You're within walking distance of everything you need - a restaurant, gift shops, a small grocery store, and transportation rentals. If you want to visit any of the other islands the Washington State Ferry system services, you can just walk down the hill to the ferry terminal and walk on to any of the inter-island ferries for free. I believe in honesty and making sure guests know what to expect. Over the course of the last year, feedback from guests has encouraged me to make sure future guests are aware that the plumbing at the landing is all quite aged and as such the water pressure does leave a bit to be desired in the shower. *Note: preference is given to two night or longer stays until the date of stay is close, though we're happy to fill one night gaps in the schedule further in advance.* Guest AccessGuests will have access to free WiFi and Dish TV to stay connected. While there is no full kitchen, guests do have access to a small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, electric tea kettle, and dishes during their stay. Interaction with GuestsHow much we interact with each guest is entirely up to them! If you want information about the island's many attractions, we will be happy to help you explore. If you want to pick up the keys and disappear into cottage, we will respect your privacy and let you soak in the serenity of the island in peace! The NeighborhoodIf it is your first time staying, you will have no trouble finding us! Just look out the window as you approach Orcas... we're the yellow cottages just up the hill to the left of the ferry dock! Within walking distance, we have a wonderful market where you can buy groceries, coffee, pre-made sandwiches and pizza, household essentials, beer, wine, or liquor. Be warned: their breakfast burritos are pretty addictive. Also nearby is the Cottage Gift Shop. It is full of fun souvenirs and surprises -and- has the largest selection of Orcas Island t-shirts on the island. The historic Orcas Hotel is just across the street. The view from their charming cafe is beautiful and the food at both the cafe and Octavia's Bistro is delicious! If you're looking to take a whale watching tour, Orcas Island Eclipse Charters leaves from just next to the cottages. For access to more restaurants, boutiques, yoga studios, museums, and theaters, Eastsound is a short (but beautiful) 8 mile drive away. Getting AroundThe cottage has a private parking space if you decide to bring a car along. There is nearby parking for any additional cars. If you choose not to bring a car with you, rentals are available through Orcas Island Shuttle and they will drop off the car anywhere you like, including right by the ferry terminal, if you make your reservation at least 24 hours in advance. Other Things to NoteIf you're looking for a home base to explore all of the San Juans, look no further. Our proximity to the ferry terminal allows for easy walk-on or drive-on travel on the Washington State Ferries.

Indoors, there are comfortable furnishings in the great room that invite you to snuggle up by the fireplace with large windows that frame the views. There are two bedrooms, each with a queen bed; the master bedroom opens to the deck and features a bench swing. A third sleeping space is in a hallway alcove containing a set of bunks. You'll probably spend much of your time outdoors on the spacious deck overlooking the water, or exploring the sand and gravel beach! The beach below the bluff adjoins one of the most beautiful stretches of sand on the Island, Upright Channel State Park - you'll take a 1/4 mile walk on a beautiful wood trail to access this lovely picnic and sunbathing spot. Despite the elegance of a sandstone tiled entry and gleaming Brazilian Koa floors in the great room, the atmosphere is that of a casual island residence. Everything is new, yet there's a flavor of vintage in the mix of materials and furnishings. The spacious kitchen features high-end appliances and a farmhouse sink to make meal preparation a joy; there's a dining table with seating for up to 8. The living room offers a cozy wood stove, TV, and an alcove with a comfy windowseat that beckons one to curl up with a book (or take a nap). With three bedrooms and two baths, the home works well for various guest configurations. The master bedroom offers a queen size bed and en-suite bath. A second bedroom also offers a queen bed, and the third bedroom is outfitted with two twin beds. A bathroom in the hall services the second two bedrooms; both bathrooms feature walk in showers, tiled surrounds, and painted ceramic sinks.

The SpaceA 40-minute ferry ride brings you to Lopez, the “Friendly Isle", part of the beautiful San Juan Islands, famous for its pastoral settings, working farms, fabulous views and active arts community. Nestled on a cliff in the trees high above Upright Head Channel, this beautiful treehouse is a retreat for those who want to commune with nature in a quiet setting. It faces the ocean, affording stunning sunset views and a front row seat to ferry and ocean vessel traffic. The property is bordered by the Upright Head Preserve, a 26-acre wonderland of trails and mossy, ocean overlooks. The treehouse itself is brand new, but designed to look and feel like it's been in the trees for a 100 years. Celtic designs in the woodwork, natural edge slabs of trees for counters and the desk, antique boxes for storage and an old, well-loved rocker next to a wood-burning marine stove make this a beautiful, cozy place to relax. Built with comfort and safety in mind by a local designer, the platform on which the treehouse rests is suspended between two large Douglas Firs and was planned and put in place using specially designed metal beams that allow the treehouse to rock in the wind like a ship at sea. Good for the trees and peaceful as a mother's arms. Walk to the treehouse from the driveway across the suspended bridge. Step onto the forest-side deck to the porthole door. To the right of the door is an outside shower. Inside is a small bathroom and a galley kitchen leading to a lovely paneled open area with a cathedral ceiling, a chandelier and windows on all sides. A built-in desk, made from a slab of Douglas fir, and comfortable chair beg you to sit and write or work on a project by the window overlooking the ocean. By the woodstove sits a rocking chair in the corner where windows meet, a perfect place to sit and read. In the loft is a queen sized, memory foam bed with a view to fabulous sunsets across the water and over Shaw Island. Luxury linens and a down quilt make it a cozy retreat. The treehouse has a strict two night minimum stay requirement. Guest AccessGuest are invited to wander as they wish along the land adjacent to the cliff by the ocean (please think of your safety) and through the adjoining Upright Head Preserve. The treehouse is a guest house adjacent to a large log home. Even during the warmest days, the sea air and winds coming off the ocean can make for chilly evenings. Please plan to bring a sweatshirt or sweater to stay cozy. Interaction with GuestsThe treehouse is intended to be a place of peace and quiet. You can shut yourself off from the rest of the world with no phones, TV or any contact with the outside world. From the moment you check in until the time you check out, the treehouse, starting at the suspension bridge is yours alone. If you want to know where to go for a great meal or to pick up a new (or old!) book, Sean and Bob are enthusiastic about the island and all it has to offer. They can tell you about lovely hikes and walks to some of the most beautiful views in the world. They live in the main cabin and are only a phone call or text away, if needed. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is made up of native islanders, newcomers and vacationers, our neighbors are the best. Friendly and helpful, you'll meet them out walking the trails or on the hills, dog lovers and mellow people all. Getting AroundThere is no public or commercial transportation on Lopez. The Washington State Ferry system has a terminal just over the hill from the treehouse, a distance of about 1.5 miles. Serious cyclists can get around easily. The treehouse is 4+ miles from the grocery stores. Other Things to NoteThe treehouse has a small kitchenette with a microwave and refrigerator (cooking is very restricted - it's a treehouse!), a fully plumbed toilet in a small bathroom inside and an outdoor shower out on the forest side deck. If the weather is too cold for an outside shower, let us know between 9am and 9pm and you may use the shower in the main house.

The SpaceThe house will be all yours, we do not live on the Island so you will not find us popping in, we will do our best to make sure that the place is comfortable for you and have directions on the use of the house. Where to find the key, how to heat the house etc. Guest AccessYou will have access to the entire house including what we lovingly call the honeymoon cottage. There are beds everywhere, two singles in the UNHEATED SUN PORCH one in the laundry room, one in a tiny room off the kitchen and a double in the cottage (no heat or lights, a bit like camping) . Interaction with GuestsEmail me your plans and I will do what I can to make your dreams come true. I also have a nice guide to the island, things to do and eat. The NeighborhoodThis is a quiet neighborhood, there are a lot of summer residents so there are times where the houses around our house are empty. People on Lopez are curious so some neighbors may introduce themselves and ask what you are doing there. Let them know that you are friends of ours. Jeff's grandfather built the road from the Ferry to Port Stanley and was on the Island in the 40's so a lot of people know the family. We are about a mile from the Ferry dock so if you are very adventurous you can walk to the house but we are about 5 miles from town so you will want to bring food if you walk. Getting AroundThere is not public transportation. You can ride bikes, there may be a service from the ferry to town in the summer but it is not necessarily year round. Other Things to NoteThere is a wonderful giant hammock on the property. You should use it at your own risk, that said, we use it often and really enjoy laying about in the hammock watching the ferries come and go. There is a mud oven on the property, it is kind of tricky and can get extremely hot. It's fun to use but it takes some time to develop a skill with using it. The main things to know her are, it can get very hot and will burn off your eyebrows if you are not careful and you must start with a small fire and build up to a bigger fire over time as to avoid cracking the oven. you will know it's ready when it is hot on the outside surface. I have baked a cobbler in there in about five minutes and have also tried to cook meatballs for hours without success, but if you like odd stuff, this place should be entertaining.
