The SpaceOur lovely independent cottage has a private entrance and its own garden lawn. There’s a small enclosed kitchenette with induction single burner cooktop, electric kettle, microwave, toaster oven… everything you need for basic cooking. We named it Bamboo Cottage believing that once you name things, they become more alive and vibrant… There’s Heavenly Bamboo planted outside and the Asian theme for the décor is intended to create a spiritual atmosphere, inviting relaxation and mindfulness. The outdoor area has a bistro table for dining or working, comfortable bamboo chairs for reading or having a conversation over a glass of wine and a freestanding 2-person hammock for forgetting about everything… All the essentials are provided and if you need anything, just let us know and we will do our best to bring it to you. Special treats? We have a long list for you to choose from: award winning wines, locally made organic bread, fresh every Saturday noon, French pastries (Thursday through Sunday), professional massages, yoga classes… we’re happy to act the role of friendly, informed concierge and book/arrange whatever experience you would like. A local chef will deliver meals (yummy!) if you want, just ask for email menu. The area is chock-full of resources: from wineries making great wines, beekeepers producing fragrant honey, Olive Oil mills, lakes to swim in, trails to hike… Nevada City, a charming gold-mining town, is just 45 minutes away and if you go the ‘back road’, you’ll see amazing scenery, driving by the Bullards Bar Reservoir and meeting the famous Route 49. For a real outing, you can explore Downieville (dive into the Gold Rush history) and the lovely lakes (Sardine Lake, Salmon Lake, Gold lake) where you can swim or hike forever… Guest AccessThe Bamboo Cottage is just steps from our house: if you need anything, just call or text and if we are at home we can help you immediately. At the same time, you can enjoy your privacy without even knowing that we are at home. Plenty of parking space next to the cottage: your entrance is totally private, your own outdoor space is fenced and visually inaccessible. Interaction with GuestsThis is totally up to you. We can be invisible or part of your experience with information and suggestions. The NeighborhoodOregon House is at 1500' elevation, just above the fog and below the snow. Properties are generally private because most of them are a minimum of 5 acres. It’s quiet and very safe, the speed limit on the ‘main road’ is 35 mph. There is a surprisingly interesting grocery and deli store very close to us where you can find more than you would expect. In the same location you can buy gas for your car. 'Downtown', just about 1 mile away, is a truly exceptional Mediterranean restaurant (Café Collage) which is open for dinner Thur-Sun. Getting AroundYou will need a car, whichever direction you are coming from. 40 minutes from Marysville, 45 minutes from Grass Valley , about 1.25 hours from Sacramento. Other Things to NoteThroughout the area, cellphone reception is only with AT&T and Verizon. No Sprint, T-Mobile or other minor carriers. At our home you will have a pretty good signal strength, but as you drive around the area, the signal strength varies and sometimes disappears completely (those darn hills!). No pets please. We have a lovely shy cat that will probably remain out of your sight. (And he has never been in the cottage, in case you have allergies…)

The SpaceSet on ten acres, this two-story two-bedroom adobe house features lime washed stuccoed walls, limestone and madrone floors, heavy oak ceiling beams, and antique French roof tiles. Wherever possible, natural materials have been used. Many of the furnishings and paintings were brought back from France by the owner who lived there some years ago. The house is largely based on his experience living in a converted stone barn (a "grange") in the wine country outside Bordeaux. Essentially, the house represents what can be done in this part of the world to replicate a period house in the south western part of France. Guest AccessYou have full access to the house and the property during your stay. Please be considerate of the neighbors and their peace and privacy. Your nearest neighbor, however, is over 200 yards away. You will be welcomed by Peter or the property manager, who will be available to help you throughout your stay. Interaction with GuestsMinimal, Peter or the property manager is on call if you need help or have questions. The house and grounds are your private space during your visit, but if for any reason, it is necessary to check something for safety, security or well-being, we will ask your permission to enter. We will be available to help you throughout your stay; please ask if you would like suggestions for outings or need help in any way. The NeighborhoodThe house is located at the end of a road that winds up the side of a mountain. Once at the house, you'll have a view of a local vineyard and winery and views far out to the Sierra Buttes and High Sierras. At an elevation of 2100', we are above the fog (it's like a Chinese painting looking down on the clouds at certain times of the year) and below the snow. It's extremely quiet, safe, and the air is fresh and clean. You'll be close to several lakes and forests for swimming or hikes, or you can walk down the driveway and continue along a 5-mile loop that brings you back to the house. Fishing, boating and swimming are popular at Collin's Lake, Lake Francis, or Englebright Reservoir. You'll also enjoy river swimming in the Yuba River and Oregon Creek, less than an hour away. Great way to stay cool in the summer. If you decide to stay home, you can use our fully equipped kitchen to cook meals, or order in from one of our local restaurants or a local personal chef. If you chose to go out, I recommend Cafe Collage for fine dining. 'Sweet Diane', a local personal chef, offers a changing menu that she will deliver to your door. Clos Saron Winery – 12 minutes drive Cafe Collage restaurant – 12 minutes drive Lake Francis – 15 minutes drive If you are in need of city life, Nevada City and Grass Valley are 50 - 60 minutes away. Getting AroundYou'll need a vehicle to get about. Bikes are fine, but be aware that roads are narrow and winding, and drivers are not always "bike aware." Public transport is not a strong point. You'll need a car to get here from the Sacramento airport. Allow about 40 minutes from Marysville, 50 minutes to Grass Valley via Hwy 20, or take the scenic loop over Bullard's Bar then on to Highway 49, the Golden Chain, either climbing up to the Sierra Buttes and Sierra Valley, or turn right to the Yuba River South Fork bridge and onto Nevada City, either way is a beautiful drive to Highway 80 and Lake Tahoe. Other Things to NoteWater conservation is needed, so no long showers please. You are welcome to any foods and staples (such as olive oil and condiments) in the kitchen. teas are in the cupboard above the dishwasher and coffee on the counter.
