The SpaceSpring and summer are on the horizon. We expect this summer to be beautiful in the Upper Valley and White mountains. This is a beautiful time of the year to be in New England and enjoy all the amenities. We have the good fortune to have Indian Pond which is a local beach surrounded by the mountains. There are rafts, swimming area and crystal clear water. For whatever reason, the pond is warm and not the normal freezing New England swimming place. Come and enjoy it into the fall.Foliage is phenomenal in this area supplemented by lovely walks, hiking, great restaurants and the list goes on and on. Come and join us and all that New England has to offer. Early plans will ensure your vacation to be memorable. This spacious roomy apartment is on a lovely piece of land with a brook. We are in the country but close to all amenities in Hanover. Hopkins Center, Hood Museum, Montshire Museum, farmers markets, King Arthur Flour, Rivendell Trail System though Orford & Fairlee, local brew pubs, fantastic high end restaurants to diners. 30-40 min drive takes one to Woodstock/Billings Farm, Simon Pearce Glass, and many other places which we shall be happy to help you with. The SpacePeaceful Valley Farm is located on the River Road, 18 miles north of Hanover, along New Hampshire’s scenic river byway. The fully furnished 1820 historical Federal-style farmhouse has been the seasonal home of three generations of the Huntington family families because it easily accommodates large groups: three bedrooms with double beds; two bedrooms with 2 single beds; one bedroom with 1 single bed; and a bunk room with 5 additional beds. There are three bathrooms located upstairs, two with showers. The large kitchen is heated by a converted wood to propane stove and one of the 2 living rooms has a working fireplace. Two refrigerators and a walk-in pantry with 3 sets of china and every possible piece of cookware make this gathering space functional. The covered porch adjacent to the kitchen has seating for 10-12 people and the expansive lawn is used for croquet, badminton, bocce and whiffle ball (all stored in the barn). Two charcoal grills and a gas grill make this the perfect place to barbecue. Although worn by the ages, this old house still exudes incredible charm and conviviality. However, it's location on a quiet road next to neighbors makes it unsuitable for large groups partying all night and making noise. Absolutely no fireworks or smoking on the premises. Guest AccessThe property sits on 40 acres of farmland with a mile walk (or drive) through the fields to a swimming dock and boathouse on the Connecticut river. Biking, hiking, canoeing and other recreational activities start from the front door! Interaction with GuestsThe hosts do not live in the house but can be present (in the house or staying down the road) for guests in order to assist with the use of kitchen appliances and outdoor games stored in one of the barns and for guidance on all the amenities available in the Upper River Valley area, including where to go for wifi! The house does not have internet or television but cell phone service is excellent. The NeighborhoodThe neighbors south of us in Lyme, NH occupy the Moses Kent Farm, a Federal-style home that has been restored and placed in easement n order to preserve some of the best examples of Rufus Porter's murals. Lake Morey and Lake Fairlee are nearby, making this a convenient place to stay when visiting campers or looking for a weekend of golf or boating. Getting AroundThis is a scenic country road that connects the town of Orford to Hanvoer, NH via a covered bridge and 10 miles of outstanding bicycle riding and walking. It serves as part of an International Bike Trail and used as a regular route for group cycling tours, including The Prouty. Other Things to NoteThe house is not suitable for people with physical disabilities since bathrooms are located on the second floor. The house can accommodate a wedding party if the guests want to secure all the amenities for an outdoor event, including a tent, caterer, generator and portable toilets. A special fee is negotiated for an event site, which requires contacting the host.
