The SpaceThis FLW inspired home sits on a high point of its surrounding 100 acres. It was built on a granite ridge that rises 20 feet above the general lay of the land at the front of the property. The overall goal with the design was to build an innovative home where “light, air and vista permeated the whole with a sense of unity” and fit the natural surroundings. There is an emphasis on natural light so there are lots of windows and they are large. The east facing front wall of the great room has windows that start at the floor and rise 14 feet. There are large corner windows at each end of the building to maximize the view and the light. Throughout attention was given to airflow and most windows open to catch the air. Like the land around it the home is to be an “inspiring space”. The central pod ceiling is almost 18 feet high at the front and the bedroom pods are 14 feet at their highest points. The mono-sloped ceilings add an interesting dramatic and unique feel to the interior. The interior was finished using natural materials wherever possible, and ones that again work with and reflect the natural surroundings – rock and wood. The primary heat source is an efficient wood stove that burns wood harvested from the property. There is a propane furnace and an efficient “on demand’ water heating system. The home has “beauty of purposefulness” about it. There are 2 bedrooms and a master bedroom with ensuite. There is a main bathroom and a main floor laundry room a huge great room. The kitchen has a large island with its own draft beer dispenser and a dining area that has 8 foot and 6-foot sliding glass doors that open up to a south facing patio area. This unique home provides a truly inspiring space that works with the incredible piece of land that is Rancho Relaxo with its granite rocks, miles of trails, bridges, creek and waterfall. We look forward to sharing this space with like-minded individuals looking for the Rancho Relaxo experience. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the entire home and 100 acres of land with trails, bridges, creek and waterfall, granite rock-croppings. The drive is 600 feet long and cleared for winter use. The home is a 5 minute drive off of Hwy 11, just N of Orillia. Interaction with GuestsGuests will have private/total access to the home. The NeighborhoodThis is an incredible 100 acre nature retreat. Surrounded by tall evergreen hedges, you can enjoy the backyard space in quiet relaxation. Have a seat at the patio table in the shade of the umbrella. There are ample patio chairs and two loungers. The rear deck is the perfect spot to take in the fresh air, socialize, enjoy your favourite book and summer beverage, catch some sun and take in the panoramic lake view. There is also a propane BBQ for grilling your favourite summer meals. In the backyard next to the deck is a lovely pond and garden. The large grass rear yard is generally level and is great for yard games. From the cottage it's an easy walk to the lake where you will find a unique peninsula with a bench on the end. This is a very special spot to take in the lovely sunrise or sunset while looking across the beauty of Lake Simcoe. The shallow slipway at the waterfront allows you to wade out into the water and maybe take a swim out to the swim platform. There is also a 50 foot dock at the shore. The water in the lake is shallow and clear and the water depth increases very gradually, which the lake bottom is stone/pebble. There is a firepit located right down at the waterfront so you can enjoy a campfire together. There is plenty to see and do in the area. The cottage is a great base from which to explore Orillia's area attractions including Casino Rama, summer boat cruises, and the Stephen Leacock Museum. Take in some live performances at the Orillia Opera House and the Mariposa Folk Festival. You're not far from shopping, restaurants, entertainment, and a good number of annual festivals and attractions. A quick drive will take you to sand beaches at J.D. Tudhope Park and Couchiching Beach Park. If you are looking for some exercise Orillia has an extensive trail network for walking, jogging and cycling. At Mara and McRae Provincial Parks there are swimming areas and hiking trails or try one of the local golf courses. Additional amenities include: dock/boat-slip, coffee maker, tea pot, pillows, dishes, patio furniture (table, 10 chairs, 2 loungers, and an umbrella), fire pit, cutlery, sunroom, cleaning supplies, hd television - 42", pots and pans, refrigerator freezer.
