The SpaceFeel as if you are staying at quintessential Maine B&B for half the cost! Winterport is a sleepy historical town located on the Penobscot River. My colonial home is surrounded by rolling fields and Maine woods for exploring but you are only a 20 minute drive away from Bangor, 40 minutes away from Belfast and an hour to Acadia National Park. This space is ideal if you are vacationing in mid-coast Maine but do not want to pay tourist prices at a Bed & Breakfast. My place is also great for professional who might be doing business in the area and looking for an extended stay with all the comforts of home. Friends and family travel from all around the world to visit my home so I am hoping to open it for others to enjoy.

Internet access, of course, Roku, cable, and if you forgot to bring something to read, we have books, books & more books. We also collect home movies & are avid fans of the beloved Alamo Theater just down the road at Northeast Historic Film. LGBT & feminist friendly. The Neighborhood "When...I dip down across the Narramissic and look back at the tiny town of Orland," E.B. White wrote, "the white spire of its church against the pale-red sky stirs me in a way that Chartres could never do." Our house is in the village on a small point created by a tidal river on one side, a sweet water on the other It's renowned for its birds & soft water. And we're very close to three historic towns chock of galleries, museums, and cafes. Getting AroundHard to believe this quiet historic point is just five minutes from Rt 1, making some of the most charming, historic & handy towns in Maine less than a half an hour drive away-- Bucksport, Belfast, Blue Hill, Ellsworth, Bangor, all offering antiques & crafts galore. Acadia is just a little farther -- 40 minutes? You can easily make it to & from Campobello within a day. And Orland is a town of lakes. Toddy, Craig & Alamamoosook are right here. So's Great Pond Mountain. Conservation. Rain or shine, you'll find wonderful things to do. Other Things to NoteThe tiny point we share with a few neighbors abounds in fish & birds. Seals loll just below a little village dam, and eagles & osprey love it here. It's a Maine sweet spot. Our property abounds in places to read or meditate -- a gazebo, a small cabin, a spot on the lawn. But if you can't live without a gym or a pedicure or a massage, it's all available just up the hill at the community center. Not included, but not pricy either.

Visitors to Comfy Cozy will enjoy a cabin decorated in vintage decor, open-ceiling stripped bark cedar beams, and pine paneling for a real Maine camp experience. Dining at the kitchen table affords a view of Rocky Pond through the large porch windows. The porch includes a curtain and a recessed door which can be utilized for a private bedroom. The bed is a twin trundle, so okay for a couple. Guests will find a picnic area suited for lawn games, and a fire ring shore-side for campfires. The location of Comfy Cozy is void of light pollution--brilliant stars and moonlight shining on the pond is heaven. An outbuilding just steps away from the main cabin includes the bathroom with sink and shower, a single bed, and a storage area for lawn and board games, swimming and canoeing flotation devices and campfire utensils. Enjoy100 feet of shoreline frontage of serene Rocky Pond, where loons, bald eagles, osprey, bullfrogs and herons are frequent visitors. Guests will enjoy a lot that is quite private, noting only a glimpse of abutting cottages. Life on Rocky Pond is relatively quiet. Abutting neighbors are friendly and nice. Rocky Pond is a beautiful, classic Maine pond located in Orland. On the small size as Maine waterways go (153 acres), it is a special place known for relative quiet and tradition. Comfy Cozy, is located on the side of the pond containing several original camps of the 1950s which are sprinkled amongst newer camps built in the past 20 years. Pond-wide, there are roughly 43 camps, with lots across the pond being five acres in size which have met strict setbacks required by state-wide shore land zoning regulations. This buffering has resulted in a very rural feel, with an overall visually appealing nature-themed view. There are only a small handful of camps on the pond which are not clustered amongst the trees. Visitors to Rocky Pond can expect a ten-minute drive down a narrow dirt road (one-car width). Swimming, fishing, star gazing are all activities enjoyed at Rocky Pond. Motor boating is not available under rental circumstances (there is no public boat ramp available), but kayaking and canoeing are excellent. Paddling to the west side of the Pond affords a delightful view of Oak Hill--evening paddles are especially enjoyable with the sun setting behind the Hill. Significant rocks throughout the pond give Rocky Pond its name. Swimmers will have ample room to swim, but water shoes are recommended due to the pebbly bottom. Wildlife is abundant on Rocky Pond. Frogs, loons, eagles, beavers, and merganser ducks (often with young in tow) are regular visitors to Rocky Pond. Wildlife will swim close to shore if campers continue a respectful, quiet tradition towards them. Hikers will enjoy nearby Flag Hill, which is part of the Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust property. This offers a wonderful view of both Rocky Pond and Branch Lake. (Trail maps can be obtained at the Trust office or kiosks). It is necessary to bring your own drinking water to this cottage. Additional amenities include: sofabed, coffee maker, cd, games - all ages, lobster pot, outdoor grill charcoal.

The SpaceLuna Cottage is a traditional New England cottage built in the 1930's with a spacious wrap-around porch. With recent updates, it is a cozy and comfortable space with a lovely furnished living room/dining area and a second floor bedroom that look down towards the river. A well-equipped modern kitchen, small first floor bedroom and bathroom with a shower complete the cottage space. Follow the path through the wildflower field to the river's edge, and, depending on the tide, relax with a book or walk the rocky beach. The Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory can be viewed from the beach. While we do have neighbors nearby (across the road and to the side, behind us), there is much privacy, and it is very quiet. Please note that we live in the cottage a week or so a month, so you will find indications of our living there: personal items in drawers, closets and bathroom, and a few staples in the refrigerator and cupboards. Because we have had the cottage for just a year, we are in the process of updating and making improvements (painting, landscaping, etc). I think you will not be disappointed, however, with your experience at Luna Cottage! Guest AccessPlease enjoy the entire cottage and property! We have just recently installed Wi-Fi. The password for access can be located on the inside front cover of the Luna Cottage information notebook that you will find on the coffee table in the cottage. And, we also have a variety of books, magazines, games and musical instruments (a guitar, tamborine, 2 drums) for your entertainment! We also have a fire pit and Adirondack chairs near the river for your enjoyment. Re: THE RIVER AND SHORELINE-- Swift and unpredictable currents prohibit safe swimming. Also (and sadly), mercury levels in the Penobscot River are high, so if you go onto the beach area, it is advisable to refrain from digging into and handling sand, rocks, etc. I'd suggest you stay up on the grassy area where the fire pit and Adirondack chairs are located. However, there are safe and lovely swimming areas nearby. Please go to the guidebook for information. Interaction with GuestsOUR PRICING AND TAXES: We have come to understand that we need to include a 9% "occupancy/local" tax for the state of Maine. Airbnb doesn't yet collect the tax for us, only in certain geographic areas-- (They are working on being able to collect the tax on behalf of the host in all areas, but it's a ways off!) So, the listed $104 pricing includes the occupancy/local tax we are required to collect from our guests, and in turn, we are required to pay the tax to the state. ($95 is the base fee + 9% = $104 rounded-up from 103.55) TELEPHONE CONSIDERATIONS: Some people have had trouble with cell phone reception while at the cottage. I have AT&T, and while I have only sporadic reception through the cell-towers, I use the AT&T Wi-Fi telephone option (I turn the cellular data button on my phone off) and have no trouble making or receiving calls. T-Mobile has no reception in the general area. OUR AVAILABILITY: During your visit, we will be available by telephone or text ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)). If you need a physical response, local family members can be contacted for assistance (Terry: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN), or Karen: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)). The NeighborhoodLocated on a dead-end road, Luna Cottage is nestled in a friendly (but not at all intrusive) little neighborhood. Several other cottages can be seen along the drive leading to our cottage. It is safe, private, out-of-the-way, but easily accessed and conveniently located. There is a local and VERY friendly neighborhood dog who roams around quite freely (thus the gates on the porch!) Don't be shy about telling Lacey to "go home"! Getting AroundVerona Island & Bucksport are under 20 miles from well-known coastal destinations such as Belfast, Searsport, Castine, Blue Hill and Surry. It is also under 20 miles from Bangor (which has an international airport) and Ellsworth and is about 40 minutes from Camden. The Penobscot Narrows Bridge & Observatory is less than a mile away and is the gateway to Downeast Maine, including Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Other Things to NoteThere is a local grocery store (Hannaford supermarket & pharmacy) about a mile away in Bucksport and a lovely riverside walk-way and marina. There is an independent bookstore (Bookstacks) on Main St. that also sells a variety of nice wines, an historic movie theater (the Alamo), an ice cream shop (a local favorite), a couple of restaurants, and an interesting antique/flea-market-kind-of shop. On Thursday afternoons you will find a farmers market next to the town's post office. For information about Bucksport, including its event & festival schedule, go to: (URL HIDDEN)

Here's your perfect opportunity to relax, swim from the dock, canoe, kayak, watch the bald eagles, listen to the loons, enjoy a sunset and roast hot dogs and marshmallows on the lakeside bonfire. This one bedroom cottage has been recently renovated and is steps from Toddy Pond. Bring your own kayak or canoe. If you're a fisherman, you can launch your boat at the nearby ramp and fish for trout, bass, perch, and salmon. Toddy Pond is wonderful in June, July, and August with warm days and cool nights. September brings warm days, cool nights, and fewer crowds while October brings the incredible fall foliage that dots the landscape, the lakesides, and the roadsides. Come and take advantage of the incredible beauty and moderate October temperatures. You won't want to miss the new Penobscot Narrows Bridge with it's 442' high Observatory and adjacent Fort Knox which was built for the Civil War. Both serve to welcome visitors to Bucksport and Downeast Maine. Bar Harbor and Acadia area: Going east from Toddy Pond, Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and Mt. Desert Island provide numerous opportunities for sightseeing, shopping, dining, hiking, biking, horseback riding, shoreline activities, and lighthouse viewing. Visit Thunder Hole and Sand Beach, see the vistas of Penobscot Bay from atop Mt. Desert, climb down the rocky coast to view Bass Harbor Light (our favorite), dine on the lawn at the Jordan Pond House while you soak in the views of The Bubbles or choose where you'll try your first lobster. Bring your bike or rent one to ride the Carriage Paths in the Park or bring your kayak to explore the coastline or many ponds on the Island. Not too far away is the Blue Hill peninsula with many art galleries and shops and a short drive takes you to Deer Isle and Stonington, a working lobstering harbor. Consider taking a day trip to Isle Au Haut via ferry from Stonington. Camden, Rockport, and Rockland: 45-50 minutes south of Toddy Pond are three of the prettiest harbors on the East Coast. Take in the windjammer fleet in Camden, charter a sail into Penobscot Bay, hike or drive up Mt. Battie to see the Tower and the expanse of Penobscot Bay. Shopping, sightseeing, dining, and hiking opportunities abound. You won't want to miss the Cellar Door Winery near Megunticook Lake and Maiden's Cliff. Hike the Nature Conservancy trails to Balanced Rock. Rockland is home to the Farnsworth Art Museum which houses many of the Wyeth family collections. We will also provide you with a Renter's Guide with more details on activities, events, and things to do and see while you are here. See also the Loon Cottage on Toddy Pond (Property 336179) on VRBO
