The SpaceThe first house to be built on the south side of the Chateauguay River, ½ km from the village of Ormstown on Route 138, this Scottish ancestral stone cottage built circa 1825 offers clean, unpretentious farmhouse type accommodation for up to 10 people - see list of beds below. Air conditioning is available May to September. The house has Wifi internet, an equipped kitchen, dining room, lounge and laundry room. There is a locked shed for your bicycles. Towels, bed linens and some basic toiletries are provided, but bring your own groceries. Smoking is not permitted in the house.
Quebec lodging tax is included in the prices . Guest AccessBehind the house there is a workshop where you can store your bikes or kayaks. Part of the barn may be available for motor cyles with prior arrangement. There is river at the bottom of the field behind the house. You may take a walk there but the banks are high and the current fast, so there is no safe swimming. You may be able to put your kayak in, but I suggest using the river bank at the rec center in the village. Interaction with GuestsYou are more than welcome to come for a tour of our small family farm. We'd be proud to show it to you. Please email or call first to arrange a visit. The NeighborhoodOrmstown is a unique, quiet village where most people speak both French and English. There are many restaurants and a rare, in this age, 3 story family owned department store where you can find just about everything. Ormstown also has antique stores, 2 hardware stores, artisan/gift shops and clothing stores. If you like fast food there is a Subway and Tim Hortons less than 1 km away. An excellent gym is within walking distance, as are two grocery stores. There is a wharf in the village where you can go fishing. American Eel, Black Crappie, Brook Trout, Channel Catfish, Lake Trout, Largemouth Bass, Muskie, Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Walleye and Yellow Perch have been caught in the Chateauguary River. A fishing license, available for purchase in town, is required. Enjoy a drive through our beautiful countryside and admire our covered bridge. Go kayaking in the river, join the "kayak safari" (kayaks provided - beginners welcome) in Huntingdon. A nice campground park with swimming is 10 minutes by car. Check out the guide book for more fun places to visit during your stay. Getting AroundThe stone house is within 15 minutes from the new autoroute 30 bypassing Montreal and only 30 minutes from the West Island (Montreal). There is a bus from Ormstown with a limited schedule to Montreal to connect with the Metro (via route 138 and the Mercier Bridge). Please email for the bus schedule. Other Things to Note-This house is located just a half km from the village of Ormstown, on Highway 138. This makes it ideal for some people but for others it is not the quiet retreat they would like because the house is close to a busy road and there is road noise.
-The water is "hard water", full of minerals, calcium and iron and comes from an artesian well on the property. It has been tested and is of good quality and safe to drink. It is suggested that if you are sensitive to hard water you should buy bottled water to drink. The hot water sometimes has a slight sulfur smell from the hot water tank when not in daily use.

-This is a very old farmhouse in the country. Sometimes there are flies that enter the home. There have also been reports of a few ladybugs in the spring and the occasional ant in summer.
