Guest AccessGuests are free to explore the 30 acre property - there are dense fern glades, stands of Kahikatea (White Pines), mossy tracks along the streams, to the tops of the hills where (apparently) you can get a view of the sea and kapiti island. Alternatively, just stroll up and back along the track, down to the river, or lie around in the pasture areas in the long grass and listen to the birds. Our property is bordered by 2 streams and its clear where the neighbours properties are (don't go there) Interaction with GuestsWe are available on call in case you need any help whatsoever at the property. There are instructions on everything you need to know at the house, it's very straight forward, however, being off-grid, there may be things people are unfamiliar with and want more information on or help with. Getting AroundKayaking on the Otaki River, hiking further up the gorge at Otaki forks, bicycle up and down Otaki Gorge, Te Horo and Otaki beaches 20mins away, Otaki outlet stores 15 kms. We're the foothills of the Tararua ranges so lots of exploring. There is a back up generator (easy, remote controlled) for overcast days, when the power is used up, or when you want to use the washing machine, dryer or vacuum cleaner. Hot water is produced via wetback fireplace, or by gas - guests can switch easily between the 2 depending on whether they've had a fire going or not.
