The Space Our two, second-floor guest rooms share a full tub-and-shower bath, access to the balcony and airy sitting room overlooking the great room of our home. Across the great room is a south-facing wall of windows which raises the temperature of the whole area on sunny days.(URL HIDDEN)Two rocking chairs, a sofa and a drop-leaf table and chairs furnish the sitting room, besides the small refrigerator-freezer. There is a slider to the balcony with table and chairs. It faces east across the woods that surround our recently-built home. In early-morning light, the sun sparkles off Little Robin Lake, through the leaves across the road. Some nights, moon-rise is inspiring(URL HIDDEN) Each of the two guest rooms is rented separately. Each room has a comfortable queen-size real bed. This one is a four-poster bed with comfortable inner-spring and foam mattress, on box spring(URL HIDDEN)There are two diner/convenience stores within 1 - 3 miles of our place. A third is just downhill from Kushi Institute, about 5 miles up Rt. 8 north from our place. All serve very good, reasonably priced breakfasts, lunches and light dinners(URL HIDDEN) Becket and Lee have a wide variety of restaurants from casual counter seating to fine dining; Lee has quite a variety, including international restaurants (from Pizza to top-rate Indian food) at varied price-points(URL HIDDEN)Our home is in a private community of hard-packed dirt roads, heavily wooded, 2nd-growth forest, and varied homes of charmingly individual styles and sizes(URL HIDDEN)Our mixed-breed dog is very friendly once she's "told" newcomers that she's the watcher-of-the-door, and our two middle-aged cats may see an open bedroom door as a welcome to share the bed.(URL HIDDEN) We don't welcome guests' pets in our home. Sorry(URL HIDDEN) We're only 3 miles east of Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival which offers a summer season of performances by varied and internationally known dance companies. There is year-round live theater and music performances within half-an-hour of our place at several venues. There are downhill ski areas about a half-hour's drive and a cross-country ski place near here. Guest Access There is off-road parking for up to 4 cars across the driveway from our front door(URL HIDDEN) Access is private to five, small lakes all of which are tested regularly and are safe for swimming and free from zebra mussels. Our guests share our right to enjoy the lakes and roads.(URL HIDDEN)We have DSL wireless with a separate guests' account, so there's good internet service, and good cell phone reception(URL HIDDEN) We supply bedding, towels, drinking glasses, paper products, and liquid hand soap. Hair dryer, ironing board, and iron are available on request.(URL HIDDEN)We don't provide breakfast or other meals, but our guests can use our microwave and there is a small electric, drip coffee maker upstairs. Bring your own tea or coffee and condiments(URL HIDDEN)Our kitchen refrigerator is not available except for guests' extraordinary need. We prefer that our gas range not be used by our guests. Interaction with Guests We meet our guests when they arrive; so we ask about expected arrival time to plan our day to be home when they arrive. We also try to help them avoid possible issues with routing directions that might show up on GPS or computer app. maps. We live here year-'round, and come and go as we please. So do our guests. Once our guests arrive, and get settled, we pretty much leave them to enjoy our guest suite with as much privacy as they'd like. We try to be approachable so our guests feel free to ask for information and directions. The Neighborhood We really are located in the woods. The roads are well-maintained hard packed dirt roads. Besides occasional sounds from the nearby road, the noises come from crickets, frogs, birds and the weather. We're less than a mile's drive from the major road nearby, though. Temperatures in summer tend to be approx. 10 degrees lower than larger cities several miles away; winter tends to be colder by a few degrees. Getting Around People really need a car or a ride since bus transportation is limited to within Berkshire County and not geared to frequent riding between locations(URL HIDDEN) There is a small car rental business in Lee, MA (about 10 miles away). Lee is served by Greyhound bus from New York and Boston, etc. Of course, the airports in Hartford, CT., Boston, MA., and Albany, NY have major car rental outlets. We've had a few bicycle-riders stay with us, most drive cars. Other Things to NoteWe're new construction, and careful to keep our home's "energy footprint" as small as possible. In cool weather, be sure to bring warm socks and a cozy, long-sleeve shirt so you're comfortable. Our in-floor radiant heat keeps us warm, but we set the thermostat at a temperature that assumes warm, indoor, clothes. We supply lots of warm bedding. In summer, our cross-ventilation is really effective. We supply fans for the few hours and days that they're needed for warm-weather comfort.

There are shops in Lenox and Stockbridge that feature local crafts, handmade chocolate, gourmet and vegetarian or Nouveau Asian cuisine, and unique clothing and accessory shops and home-decor showrooms. (URL HIDDEN)Bicyclists and motorcycle enthusiasts enjoy the local roadways and there are three access points to the Appalachian Trail within six or seven miles from here. Guest AccessThe entire house is the subject of this listing. It's the companion residence to the house where we live year 'round. The homes are separated by two 2-car garages. Renters of the house have room for one car in the attached garage. This layout creates very good privacy, there being no connecting walls. Interaction with GuestsWe're available by phone or about 100' away to chat if we're home. Mostly, our guests can rely on us for information about restaurants in the area, directions for travel - and we include wi-fi connection in the rent so their own hi-tech equipment can provide them with directions, etc. Occasionally, we find ourselves around the same campfire on our grounds; but we're very sensitive to our guests' preference for privacy. The NeighborhoodWe're located in a forested private development. The air is sweet, our acreage is covered by native grasses and wildflowers and a year-'round creek flows to the small lake across the road and the sloping lot that fronts on the dammed lake. Neighbors are cordial, and we encourage our guests to try the little convenience store and diner less than a mile away where local banter is friendly and the food is excellent. Getting AroundNo public transportation is practically available. Other Things to NoteWe provide the pass for our guests who want to use the tiny beaches on the private lakes we enjoy. Our roads are well-tended hard-packed dirt roads; so they make good hiking in view of the very slight road traffic. We're tolerant of pets, but the pets must be closely supervised, well-mannered in strange places. Becket is about access to the Appalachian Trail and other hiking sites at state and municipal parks; tiny diners for breakfasts and lunches and Dream Away Lodge for at least one night of excellent eclectic dining and varied live music presentations. The quaint shops and 19th century inns are 20 minutes away in nearby towns where a broad array of international restaurants and music venues will be found. But, relaxing in Becket means quiet in the country.

The Space2 Bedroom house on a half acre on beautiful clean lake. High speed wireless internet which reaches the lake, washer-dryer, large deck and sunroom. The original house was a single story open plan. We added a second floor which includes a spacious queen bedroom and a fireplace as well as a spacious bathroom with granite counter tops and a large Kohler jacuzzi. There is a memory foam 3 inch topper to the bed for extra comfort. The downstairs has a bedroom with a full size bed and closet. There is an additional bathroom downstairs with shower. We also added a beautiful sunroom with a full futon couch. The downstairs has a wood burning stove for a cozy night indoors. The downstairs is also open and spacious with wood floors, the kitchen and upstairs are remodeled and furnished. Down by the water there is a fire pit for a marshmallow or hot dog on a stick barbeque over an open flame. Make sure to drench the fire when leaving to go back upstairs. The lake is clean and very nice for swimming. There is a sandy beach across the way that you can walk to from the house for an easy way into the water. Don't go into the water from the property as it is muddy and slippery. The beach across the house is private and has nice sand all the way into the water. The house is 5 minutes from Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, 15 minutes from the Dream Away Lodge (quite the night spot! with live music and great food and ambiance) 25 minutes from Shakespeare and Co and Tanglewood. The house is in a forest and prone to visitations from wild critters. Be sure not to leave any food outside. Put the fire out completely before leaving the fire pit by the lake. Field mice are everywhere but they are friendly and non-toxic. You may hear them in the walls but they are docile and keep to themselves. Guest AccessThe jacuzzi the lakeside fire pit the lake for swimming around the bend, use the beach pass provided in the kitchen. Interaction with GuestsI live one hour north running a bed and breakfast in Adams. I will not be on site but I am available by phone. The folks that run the general store in the forest are nearby to help and answer questions and assist. The NeighborhoodThe forest and the clean lake are the reasons I like the neighborhood. There is also a quaint general store in the forest that serves breakfast. Lots of local color and friendly helpful people. New England Style friendliness is reserved but positive. Getting AroundNo public transit. You must have a vehicle. Other Things to NoteMake sure you use the fan above the stove so the smoke alarm does not go off. If it does, the alarm company will dispatch the firefighters to the house. To the right of the stove in the upper cabinet, there are instructions on how to deal with the alarm if it goes off.

The SpaceThis secluded cabin is nestled into 45-acres of completely private woodlands. The cabin sits at the very end of a private road so you may not see another person for days. The only sound you’ll hear is wind blowing through trees. Without tv or internet you’ll be able to unplug completely (although if you’re addicted there is good cell-phone reception at the cabin and the town library’s wifi works from the parking lot and is on 24-hrs a day!) The cabin was hand-built 30 years ago and is truly unique. It is perched high in the trees on the ridge of Long Mountain in Otis which is spectacular in every season. The private road begins at Hayes Pond which is an easy walk from the cabin. The pond is a peaceful swimming spot (no motor boats) and we keep a canoe and a kayak on the shore for your use. The cabin has an open floor plan that radiates around a Rumford fireplace which is the perfect spot to read and relax. On the first floor there is an open kitchen/dining/living area, a full-bathroom, and a cozy private bedroom with a queen-size bed. The second floor is a sleeping loft (centered around the chimney of the fireplace) with a full-size bed and two twin beds with screens for privacy. It has a steeped roof, which makes you feel like you’re sleeping in a tree house. The basement has a half-bath, full laundry room, wood-stove, dart board and a full-sized ping-pong table! The SpaceLakefront property with own dock on Otis Reservoir with beautiful views and garden. Great for fall foliage. Max of 4 cars in winter. House has full working kitchen with china for 10+, dinner table for 6, bar stools for 4, two refrigerators, electric oven with 4 glasstop burners, microwave, coffee maker, and dishwasher. Also has a washer and dryer and a back-up power generator. The basement has a 42' HDTV hooked up to satellite TV, full sized pool table, dart board, and separate ping pong table. Satellite internet with Wifi (1 Gig/week, no streaming videos please). Lots of games for young and old. The screened-in porch is used during 3 seasons and seats 10. June/September Rental: The house comes with its own dock 75 feet from the back deck. There is a boat lift if you have a boat 18feet or less. Also available are a canoe and a kayak that can be put into the water. Otis Reservoir is a highly desirable lake because it is drained down 25+ feet every winter thus killing all seaweed. The water is beautiful and clean for all swimming and boating activities -- no green algea or seaweed. The reservoir is 1/2 mile wide and 4+ miles long. House has a wet room for storing all tubes, paddles, life jackets. Also, it is on the eastern shore of the lake which means it gets the afternoon sun -- more likely to be swimmable on marginal days. Also, good fishing right off the dock (for smaller fish). Guest AccessThis rental is for the whole house, dock. In warmer months use of a canoe and kayak is included. You can bring your own boat to the boat lifts by the dock. Interaction with GuestsI live in southern CT, I will not be available except by phone. There is a cleaning service locally that cares for the house between renters. The NeighborhoodVery collegial lakefront community -- we all know each other, help out when needed. We recommend Fratelli's restaurant in Otis for classic American Italian. Upscale restaurants in Lee. Farmington River Country Store in Otis is a great breakfast spot. Note: this is a fairly rural setting -- lots of nice places for walks, sightseeing, etc. Think Andy Griffith Show (look it up Millenials!!) Getting AroundYou must have a car to get to this house. AWD is a nice option if it snows -- good plow service, but gravel drive up hill away from the house.

The NeighborhoodThis is a small private association (Country Circle) of about 10 homes and a mix of 2nd home owners and locals. We are in the Berkshire Mountains and have hawks, owls, bears, possum, fox, coyote, bobcats, and various wildlife in the area. The homes are all beautifully situated on several acres each - but close enough to create a feeling of community. Everyone keeps an eye on everyone else - our neighbors are just great. Next door and across the street are 2nd home owners from Boston and NewYork. And also across the street are long time locals who can help with any emergency. 4 or 5 of my favorite restaurants are in Great Barrington - Prarie Whale, Castle Street Cafe, Bizen and others Getting AroundNo public transportation - you do need a car. And if you are fit and can ride hills, bring your bikes. Awesome riding but not for the faint of heart.
