This will be your home away from home! Interaction with GuestsWe live in DC, and make arrangements for the key. The NeighborhoodOxford is the perfect place for a quiet weekend away or a romantic get-away. Park your car at the house and ride the bikes from one waterfront restaurant to another! The house is about 150 yards from a lovely town beach, which is great for lounging in the sun, reading a book or being active with the kids! Take the kayak to the beach and enjoy an early morning water tour of Oxford. Enjoy nearby tennis courts. For a great afternoon excursion take the ferry from Oxford to St. Michaels for shopping, sight seeing and antiquing! Oxford is about 80 miles from Washington, D.C. Leave the office by 5:00 and enjoy the sunset over the Tred Avon river! Other Things to NoteWe have a lot of antiques and nicknacks in the house, so it is not toddler proof. (We have had families with toddlers stay, and they spent time putting the breakables on higher shelves, etc. If you choose to do that, please return things when you leave.) Given the antiques and breakables, this isn't a party house. If you're looking for a quiet getaway this is the home for you. Thanks!

Martins Point is a late 18th Century house and cottages on Maryland's historic Eastern Shore where the Underground Railroad once passed through the property. It is located on a secluded finger of land, surrounded by water on three sides, a place to unwind, immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Chesapeake Bay and reconnect with family and friends. The house and adjacent cottages include 8 bedrooms and can accommodate 15 guests (we only rent the entire compound and do not rent cottages or rooms separately). Furnishings reflect our family's taste: an appreciation of the farm's rural, colonial origins offset by a love of antiques and oriental rugs. FOR A VIRTUAL TOUR AT OUR WEBSITE, SEE "LINKS TO MORE INFORMATION" BELOW. The pool and front lawn open on a favorite anchorage of Maryland sailors who frequently come and go during summer months. Great Blue Herons, bald eagles and ospreys drift by daily. Our dock can accommodate boats with up to 4 ft draft. The lagoon in front of the house, protected from weather on 4 sides will accommodate larger boats at anchor -- bottom is 12 feet. Our O'Day sailboat, kayaks, windsurfers and outboard skiff are also available for rental if you don't have a boat and would like to get out on the water. During fall and winter thousands of Canada geese and ducks winter in the coves and fields around the house. We've watched geese for many years but have never lost our love of watching them cup their wings as they come in to land. The surrounding towns have a lot to offer. Easton, Oxford and St. Michael's are all within easy distance and sport restaurants, great antiquing and interesting shops. In St Michael's, the Chesapeake Maritime Museum, only a few feet away from the Crab Claw, is always worth a visit. In the fall, the Blackwater Wildlife Refuge is a wonderful place to see a profusion of wildlife -- more geese and ducks than you can imagine. The trip there will also take you through one of the last undeveloped areas of the Eastern Shore. Martins Point is located near Trappe, Maryland, less than two hour's drive from Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia. Drive time from Baltimore Washington International airport is 90 minutes, and 2 hours from Reagan National. Post-rental cleaning costs are deducted from the security deposit. Additional fees may apply: - County Tax | 4% of rent | SHORT TERM RENTAL TAX Martin’s Point is a 120-acre estate located in on Maryland’s historic Eastern Shore due east of Washington, DC. It is a peninsula at the convergence of La Trappe Creek and the Choptank River, the centerpiece for James Mitchener’s best seller, Chesapeake. You can enjoy the freedom of your own private compound, no houses in sight, but convenient to shopping, dining and entertainment in nearby Easton, Oxford and Cambridge. There is a deep water dock, swimming pool, private beach, and 2.5 miles of shoreline. The farm itself is still a working farm with a full array of barnyard animals. The nine room main house has four bedrooms, three and a half baths, two working fireplaces and a two-story screened porch. It is furnished with all amenities. One guest cottage has two bedrooms and two baths. The other has two bedrooms and one bath. All dwellings are heated and air-conditioned. The main house and two adjacent cottages comfortably accommodate up to 16 overnight guests. A more complete description of Martin’s Point and environs is available upon request, and photos can be viewed at our website at www.martinspointfarm.com. Martins Point is located on its own peninsula, and with no houses in sight and water on all sides, it feels as if you are on an island.

The SpaceWe call this 1900 circa cottage gem "Memory Lane" for the wonderful memories you will create during your vacation. As self-proclaimed "Victors Ice Cream Fanatics" the cottage`s close walk to Talbot County`s best ice cream store wins first bragging rights. But walking to the ice cream store is only the beginning. Feel free to bring your own small boats or dinghy to keep alongside our dock! Help yourself to herbs from the garden and we may drop off some fresh eggs from our chickens or home-baked muffins in the morning. Interaction with GuestsWe will be available to help you throughout your stay. Not everyone is familiar with living aboard a board a boat and we want it to be safe and fun for you. Please don't hesitate to call on us for any needs or to ask for suggestions about things to do nearby. We have lived in Oxford since 1992 and know where to find some really interesting places to visit. We may invite you to join us for a campfire weather-permitting. Otherwise, we will respect your privacy and leave you to enjoy your vacation aboard aboard our boat in Oxford!! The NeighborhoodOxford is Maryland's Oldest Port founded in 1683. It is still a waterman’s town with working crab and oyster boats tied up on the docks. Oxford is quaint with many historic cottages and friendly residents. There are fine restaurants, a book store, several gift shops and a market. There is also a museum, a small library and an excellent ice cream stand! Situated where the Tred Avon and Choptank rivers meet, Oxford is surrounded by water. A small ferry carries people, bikes and cars to the St. Michaels side, home of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. In the other direction is Easton, a town of approx. 16,000. Here you will find more restaurants, an art academy, and more in a thriving downtown. Within an hour's drive is a state park and Blackwater Wildlife Refuge. Getting AroundUnfortunately we are far from public transportation. The best way to arrive is by your own or rented car. However, our local transportation consists of bikes, kayaks, feet and the Oxford-Bellevue Ferry mentioned above. Other Things to NoteThe boat is at the end of a dock and there are areas that could be dangerous for children or unsteady adults. There is a TV and DVD Player with a selection of movies but no connection to the outside world. Wifi internet is available from the screen porch at our house and we are working on making it available on the boat. There are books, games and some drawing materials on board. We have a friendly dog, Gus, who will not go on the boat and a well-traveled cat, Moonlight, who might come down for a visit. If you prefer he not visit then we can keep him at the house. We also have 10 hens and fresh eggs are usually available.
