The SpaceThe studio room "Savvas" was added to the winery in 1937 and despite the modernisation of the house and the installation of new facilities it retains its character with the incorporation of contemporary fittings. There is an original planked pine ceiling and soft marble floor. It is a standard Cypriot room of 10ft x 30ft and opens onto a balcony of a similar size under a slightly narrower canopy. It faces East and so receives the early morning sun but the double glazed louvred window let you lie in if you wish. The en-suite shower and toilet are unashamedly modern as is the kitchenette which is adequate for preparing cold breakfasts and meals. Guest AccessGuests will have sole use of the balcony and various countertop cooking equipment may be provided. The yard (Avli) has a gas barbecue and an electric hotplate and tables and chairs will usually be available there. The detached garden is reached across a quiet lane (cul de sac to just two other family houses) It is laid out as various spaces to be used to find or avoid the sun according to need. A reclaimed "stable" with a tiled floor offers complete shelter and a convenient sitting / eating area. The Southern wall is in shade most of the day and remains welcomingly "cold". A charcoal barbecue and a gas cooker can be made available and a woodburner stove can provide a late evening focal point. Interaction with GuestsThe owner will usually be on site and will share experiences and knowledge about the history and geology of the island. The avli (yard) and the garden are common shared spaces The NeighborhoodPachna is a predominantly Greek Cypriot village of about 900 souls and senior to other local villages with most amenities available. It has a bank, a police station, fire station, churches of course (Orthodox), supermarkets and coffee shops. There are take-away outlets and at the moment just one taverna. It is not tourist oriented itself but adjacent villages have reached out moreso and within 10 minutes drive there are ample good quality tavernas and inns Getting AroundThere is a bus service available into Limassol but I have never used it to give experience. Although I know of one family that uses it exclusively I imagine the schedules would not suit most guests needs.

The old winery is a traditional stone built house on the edge of a rural village where grapevines and goats predominate in the farming community. The accommodation is designed to be flexible allowing a variety of letting options. The guest room (priced here) is on the upper floor of a wing adjoining the house with a wide private balcony reached by traditional cantilevered stone steps and overlooking a shared space enclosed within stone walls. The facilities are modern and recently fitted, whilst the room is contemporary with its original character when it was added in 1937 and furnishings are typical of the period. As a studio the the kitchenette is basic but by arrangement various cooking options can be provided either in the utility room below, portable devices on cupboards or on the balcony and in the yard below or in the private garden opposite BBQ providing they are cleaned afterwards. The utility room is only occasionally used by the host and was originally set up as another letting room but a decent sized bed would have made it rather cramped and as a utility within a family made more sense. It is fully fitted out with sink, fridge/freezer, recent full size IKEA fittings and cupboards. Since it was originally the house kitchen / diner it was easier to strip the walls back to stone with stunning effect than replaster. It is named the Yellow room. One end the room is separated off as en suite shower room and toilet which being conveniently placed is used mostly as the house facility The rest of the house is private but to satisfy any curiosity it is furnished in an eclectic style. If I will be at home, the large galley kitchen may be offered for guests single use, but this should not be relied upon In truth there are 2 adjacent villages; the lower Kato Paxna which is the centre for all the services and sleepier Pano Pachna up on a ridge and to the South West. As far as road signs and most maps it is one village, Paxna. The winery is located here in this quiet hamlet with direct and easy access to the road system, and being up a small cul de sac with just one other family beyond it is generally very quiet once the neighbour farmers and children have left in the morning. But there are occasions of heightened activity around holidays and family celebrations. There is immediate access to the many tracks and dirt roads for easy wandering or more energetic hiking.
