There is grocery shopping and big box stores located a half an hour away, with restaurants, movies and theater available as well. It is centrally located to many of the diverse and breathtaking landscapes that Maine has to offer. Approximately 1 hour west lie some of the most substantial ski mountains in ME (Sugarloaf, Saddleback, etc.) with gorgeous hiking trails and scenic drives throughout the region. North approximately 1 hour's drive is Maine's largest lake, Moosehead Lake, with thousands of acres of surrounding wilderness. The village of Forks is an hour's drive northwest, and is home to some of the most exciting rafting areas in New England. 1 1/2 hour's drive east brings you to the Atlantic coast at the city of Belfast; this is a pleasant and interesting village which seems to successfully blend a centuries old lobstering tradition with a more artistic, progressive feel. The beautiful mid-Maine coast opens up in both directions; southwest through Lincolnville, Camden, Rockland and the mid-Maine Islands, or northwards(down east ) to the stunning Acadia National Park. However, once you get to the lake and begin to relax, you may never want to leave.

This lakefront, chalet-style home is located on the shores of Great Moose Lake in Hartland, Maine. Great Moose Lake covers 3500 acres and is a popular destination for those looking to find a quieter off-the-beaten-path place to vacation. The home is located on Great Moose Lake's huge northeast cove, providing easy access to the main body of water but not as busy to boating traffic. Located just over three hours north of Boston, this home is ideally situated for spring, summer and autumn vacations. There is 125 feet of very private rocky/sandy frontage on the lake with a 25 foot dock to access the water from. The frontage itself is deep water with a small sandy access area for smaller kids and deep-water from the end of the dock. There is a public boat launch available, however, if you can lift your boat, you can back your small boat right up to waters edge and launch from this homes waterfront. On Great Moose Lake, you will enjoy swimming, boating, windsurfing, water-skiing, tubing, sunning, fishing, or simply cruising around the lake exploring all this lake has to offer. Also on sight is a 6 man outdoor hottub. If you do not have your own boat, I do have an 18' pontoon boat for rent for $400 per week + tax. Fishing is open year round and you can expect to catch Brown trout, large & small mouth bass, white and yellow perch and Brookies in the tributaries. Also available on site is a 12' Gazebo with a million dollar view of the lake. For the autumn vacationers, October holds some of the most beautiful foliage outside of the white mountains you'll ever see and November on Great Moose Lake is a hunter's paradise. There have been several good sized bucks taken over the years by the hunters who have stayed at the house. The interior of the home is simply beautiful. Most of the interior was custom built in knotty pine and the hardwood maple floors simply light up the home. There is an open and airy loft overlooking the living room with huge glass windows overlooking the deck and lake. The finished basement holds the fourth bedroom and has sliders directly facing the lake. The fully-equipped kitchen is available for your home cooked meals. A washer and dryer are also provided. The first floor master bath is full sized and the upstairs bath is a 3/4 bath. The home has approximately 2600 square feet of living space. There is a queen sized bed in the loft, perfect for the early risers as the wall facing the lake is all glass and is the perfect place to enjoy the sunrise. Nearby you will find restaurants and golf courses, as well as a guide service which will cater to your needs, be it fishing, photography or simply exploring. If you love good microbrewed beer, be sure to ask about the Oak Pond breweries tour. Please note, dogs are welcome with one exception, they must be quiet, i.e. no perpetual barkers. Folks who live and vacation on Great Moose Lake do so for the peaceful serenity of the area, so please respect that. If you have any questions regarding this policy please don't hesitate to contact me. In-season (May-Nov) housekeeping is provided prior to your arrival along with sheets and towels. While I am open to discussions regarding off season long term (2+weeks) rentals, I have no set policy. I typically shut the house down for the winter in December, but would keep it open for a longer term rental.

This chalet-style cottage is nestled amid large hemlocks and oaks, facing the western shores of Great Moose Lake. Located in a quiet neighborhood of summer cottages, the peace and quiet is restful and relaxing. The call of the loons is often the loudest sound that can be heard on a lazy summer evening. The cottage has hardwood floors and pine ceilings. The open concept kitchen/living room has a soaring cathedral ceiling with ceiling fans and the kitchen has a large island that is perfect for inside dining. The kitchen is fully applianced and equipped for preparing meals. A wood stove takes the edge off chilly evenings but is rarely needed in the summer. The cottage is heated by a monitor heater in the basement, and individual rooms are heated with electric baseboard. There are two bedrooms on the main floor, one with a California king-size memory foam mattress and the other with a queen-size bed. A third bedroom in the finished basement has two twin size beds, An upstairs loft provides additional sleeping space with a daybed and futon. The living room also has a futon that may provide sleeping space. Both the living room and the family room have TV's and DVD players for your entertainment. A large upper deck provides for outdoor grilling and dining. This entertainment space provides seating around the umbrella table for six. The new lower deck provides shaded seating for siestas on those hot summer afternoons when you have enjoyed enough sun for the day. The lower deck leads to granite steps down to a large patio area. This patio area is surrounded by granite boulders and has a large granite fire pit to roast marshmallows or to just sit by a crackling fire in the evenings. A set of stairs from the patio area lead down to another deck down by the water. This lower deck enjoys both sunshine and shade, depending on the time of day. There is a large picnic table to either enjoy a meal/snack or play some cribbage while the kids enjoy the water. The lake frontage is crystal clear with a gravel bottom. It's so clear that you can see the bottom up at the cottage. You can gradually wade in from the shore or use the dock to jump in. There are water flotation chairs and lounges so that you can relax in the cool water on a hot summer day and watch the loons swim by. If you prefer being on the water, we have an Old Town canoe with paddles or an Ocean Kayak for your personal boating pleasure. There is a hammock right at the water's edge that is shaded by massive hemlocks and provides a great napping space. Summer lake activities include swimming, sunning, canoeing, kayaking, boating and fishing. In the winter, lake activities include ice fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing. Wildlife abounds in the area with bald eagle sightings common and occasional moose visits. The fall foliage with the lake as a background is breathtaking. The winter here is equally beautiful and the cottage is snug and cozy for winter vacations. Pets are allowed but must be well-behaved (not constantly barking) and not allowed to wander off the premises. Pet waste needs to bagged up and disposed of properly. Pets need prior approval so please discuss situation with owners beforehand. There are ATV trails in the area. There is an eighteen-hole golf course and a nine-hole golf course within a 10 mile radius of the cottage. There is a village approximately two miles from the cottage that has a grocery store, a gas station, a diner and an ATM. A nearby town has a super Wal-Mart, Pizza Hut, Dunkin Donuts, and various restaurants.

The SpaceThis lakefront, chalet-style home is located on the shores of Great Moose Lake in Hartland, Maine. New this year is a huge floating dock and swim float, the perfect place to spend a lazy summer day soaking up the sun. Also on sight is a 6 man outdoor hottub. If you do not have your own boat, I do have an 18' pontoon boat for rent ($400 for the week). Fishing is open year round and you can expect to catch Brown trout, large & small mouth bass, white and yellow perch and Brookies in the tributaries. There is a queen sized bed in the loft, so if you are the kind of person who likes to wake up to an expansive view of a pristine Maine lake, then you will want to claim that as your bed! I typically shut the house down for the winter in December, but would keep it open for a longer term rental. Guest AccessThe entire property including chalet and garage. The NeighborhoodThis is a remarkably quiet area and very peaceful neighborhood. Being on Great Moose Lake's northeast cove, there is very little boat traffic as well, this is best described as a "get away from it all" vacation. There are not many houses in the area, so you need to be "at peace" to enjoy this vacation home.
