The NeighborhoodPanajachel Pana, as it is known by the locals, is the central commercial and transport hub for the whole of Lake Atitlan. This is where you will arrive, where you are staying here in Pana or continuing on across to the lake to one of its 12 villages. Pana has everything you will need from specialized Deli grocery stores, a fabulous vibrant local market overflowing with fresh vegetables and fruit, supermarkets, travel agencies, banks, cafes, restaurants, internet cafes etc. Pana is small, and everything is really within walking distance, from the two public boat docks up to the local market, is only a 20 min walk. However, cheap tuk tuk taxis ply the street and will take you anywhere for Q5pp. The main tourist street is Calle Santander with the banks, zona vivo, and the market and grocery stores lying to the north east. Getting AroundTuk tuks are all over Pana and cost just Q5pp, that is about .75c. But everything is also within walking distance. Boats ply across the lake to most villages from 6am to around 5pm.

The SpaceWhat makes this place unique is the sufficient distance from party zones, and nearness to the beach and one of the bigger green areas of in town Panajachel. The distance gives peace, safety, and quiet; the nearness a delightful place to be close to trees, flowers, and many varieties of birds where you can relax and relieve the stress of modern life. It is neither new nor very old. It is not large. It is the middle apartment of three. Guest AccessThere is access to the whole apartment, with kitchen and bathroom, plus a small, quiet patio, and garden, big, but bare, terrace area upstairs, and a laundry room. The public beach is close as well, only ten minutes leisurely walk, and the bar and restaurant areas are only a fifteen minute walk away, five minutes by tuk-tuk. The terrace is off-limits to children because it is unbounded. Adults at their own risk. Interaction with GuestsI love to help people be comfortable and enjoy their stay. I travel quite a bit so I may not be present during your whole stay, but am always available for information and other needs. I will usually be there to greet and to send off. My friend and venture partner, Luz, will probably always be around to greet and help with any questions you might have. She speaks French, Spanish, and German. Her English is pretty good, also, she just is not terribly comfortable speaking it. The NeighborhoodThe great thing about my neighborhood is the local, un-commercial feel of a quiet cul-de-sac. The neighbors are mostly indigenous and friendly and will not importune travelers. There is no through traffic. The street is generally quiet. Our corner is very green. Getting AroundTuk-tuks can be called to the door, or one can be caught five minutes from the door, a couple of streets away. It's a fifteen minute walk to the Santander, the main street in Pana, and to the ferry to the other towns around the lake. Other Things to NoteThe birdwatching from the terrace is awesome. The garden has a nice variety of tropical plants. The water is from a sulfur spring and plentiful. (You can flush a reasonable amount of toilet paper [only] down the toilets without fear of plugging things up, a problem with many other local bathrooms.)

The owner also lives onsite and has great knowledge of the area. Our gardener, Miguel, has helped maintain the property for 4 years. He speaks Spanish and is around three times a week. The NeighborhoodWe are located in commonly quiet neighborhood in northern Jucanya. We have plenty of green scenery, a beautiful waterfall and a basic tienda next door. Other Things to NoteLike most places around the lake, the power does go out from time to time, which includes water. We will do our best to keep you informed about these situations. There are two dogs on the premises, Blacky is a much older dog, and Chola is a young pup. They are both not allowed into the home. The tap water comes from a well, and is potable but for safety, we offer 2x1 gallon drinking water jug upon arrival. Laundry is near by, Q4 per pound.

The SpaceThe bungalow is quiet and very private. Once inside the gate, you are in your own paradise, away from the hustle and bustle of town. The small but functional kitchen is equipped to cook your meals if you prefer to eat at home rather than eat out at the many good restaurants in town. Guest AccessYou will be only a 10 - 15 minute walk to town, or a 3 minute ride by tuc-tuc, the local 3 passenger taxis. You can also walk to the lake in about 5 minutes and if you like can walk along a scenic road which leads to the next indigenous town, Santa Catarina, which can be done in about a half hour. Panajachel is a great jumping off place to visit both the other towns across the Lake and other parts of the Central Highlands, like Solola, Chichicastenango and Xela (Quetzaltenango). Interaction with GuestsYou have complete privacy, via your own private entrance at street level. If you have a car, there is secure parking. I am always reachable in my house which is about 100 stairs up from street level and happy to answer any questions you may have. Because your time is generally limited, as you want to make the most of your time here, it's not always easy to meet. However, if I don't find you in your casita to say hello, please feel free to walk up the stairs and visit me at my house. You can phone me, or send me an email to make sure I am around, or you can be spontaneous, and walk up the hill to the 2nd Blue Gate and ring the doorbell. The NeighborhoodThe Neighborhood, Jucanya, is quiet and away from the hubub of the central part of town. It's a neighborhood, off the beaten tourist path. If you have time, it's worth walking the narrow streets, where many local families live. Interestingly, it has quite a mixture of houses, from the poorest to the most magnificent, but many behind walls. Sometimes, it's more fun after dark, when you get a better glimpse of local life. Getting AroundThe property is only a 10-15 minute walk to town and everything you need. If you're not up to walking, you can take a tuc-tuc, the 3 passenger taxis, which are ubiquitous in Panajachel, for about 60 cents US / per person. Other Things to NoteThe old wi-fi has been replaced, with a new more powerful connection, after some guests were having problems. So your Internet connection should be great! There's also a great hammock to lounge on the front porch. You can also see the Volcano's from the kitchen.

The SpaceLocated approximately three hours from the airport in Guatemala City, Panajachel is the welcoming town of Lake Atitlan, one of the most beautiful lakes in the world according to A. Huxley. Our home is a multi-level indoor/outdoor living environment. The lower level is our potted plant patio, our bedroom and the guest room and full bathroom with hot shower. The guest room is furnished with a double person futon, and futon couch(1 person), chairs, tables, and armorer. There is a reading light by the bed. Purified water is available. Our third/fourth level are two terrazzos, or open rooftop spaces, filled with planters, chairs and table . The house is located on a small callejon between the main two streets and we are only three blocks to the lake. This is the IDEAL location for travelers who want to be close to the main tourist areas, and the lake, but not be bombarded by noise. Guest AccessOur guests are welcome to enjoy the amazing view of the volcanoes and sky from our rooftop. Feel free to bring your purchased beverage, or food to the rooftop and watch the sky. Your room, the lower patio, rooftop and lower bathroom are available for your use. Interaction with GuestsWe are happy to provide information about some of the great places to see and be around the lake. The NeighborhoodOur callejon is centrally located, yet away from the busyness of Santander, the main street of Pana. All types of shopping, eating, lake activities, etc are within a 10 minute walk. Our neighbors are mainly Cakchiquel families with happy sounds of children at play. Each of the villages around the lake and in the mountains above it, have a unique feel and community life. It is easy to travel by public boats among the villages and walking to the closest two villages is a gentle walk along a road with vistas of the lake. Getting AroundWalking is the most common way to see Pana, there are also Tuk-tuks, 3-wheeled vehicles readily available, if you want to go by motor vehicle. It is also possible to rent bicycles and kayaks. Other Things to NoteSteve is a singer songwriter from Austin and director of the Atitlan Music School. Elisabeth is an internationally registered Bach Flower Practitioner and Reiki Master. We perform around town.

The SpaceWhat makes this place unique is the distance from party zones, and nearness to one of the bigger green areas of in town Panajachel. The distance gives peace, safety, and quiet; the nearness a delightful place to be close to trees, flowers, and many varieties of birds where you can relax and relieve the stress of modern life. This is the quietest of the apartments, as it is on the end of the property. Guest AccessThere is access to the whole apartment, with kitchen and bathroom, plus a small, quiet patio, and garden, big, bare, terrace area upstairs, and a laundry room. The public beach is close as well, only ten minutes leisurely walk, and the bar and restaurant areas are only a fifteen minute walk away, five by tuk-tuk.

The SpaceThe Apartment is quiet and very private. Once inside the gate, you are in your own paradise, away from the hustle and bustle of town. This unit was designed for someone or a couple who plan to stay 5 days or more. It has a fully equipped kitchen, a dining room table for six, so you can entertain, wi-fi and video player for those nights when you feel like kicking back. It's really more like your home away from home. Long term rates can be negotiated. Guest AccessYou will be only a 10 - 15 minute walk to town, or a 3 minute ride by tuc-tuc, the local 3 passenger taxis. You can also walk to the lake in about 5 minutes, to just sight see or to swim, and if you like, can walk along a beautiful road which leads to the next indigenous town, Santa Catarina, which can be done in about a half hour. Other Things to NoteAfter getting a few complaints about poor reception, the Wi-Fi has been updated and is more powerful, so your Internet reception should be great. There is a small flat panel tv which is connected to a DVD player, plus a few recent movies to watch on longer stays. You can also buy DVDs of recent films in town and bring them home to watch.
