During the summer, open up the double doors and blur the lines between inside and outside, as you watch the pink cliffs light up during majestic sunsets, and animals and birds using the river while you have dinners on the wraparound decks. Or watch horses or cows grazing during afternoon tea on the outdoor rocking chairs. Once you are well rested, you will be ready to take advantage of all the sights to see. The following Parks / Monuments can each be seen within a half or full day trip from the retreat: - Bryce Canyon National Park - Red Canyon - Zion National Park - Cedar Breaks National Monument (Close in the winter) - Duck Creek - Grand Staircase Escalante - Grand Canyon (North Rim) - Lake Powell National Recreation Area, and its majestic sandstone cliffs - Pink Coral Sand Dunes State Park - Buckskin Gulch Slot Canyon (longest one in the US) - The Wave (requires permit from BLM) - Best Friends animal sanctuary (free tours) - Brian Head Ski Resort (during the winter season) - Horseback riding (available in Bryce Canyon) - ATV rentals (summer) and snowmobile rentals (winter) Of course, you could also stay home and fish (with a Utah fishing license, that can be purchased online) and swim on the property itself, hike, bike or ATV on many trails nearby, some right outside the property. Whether you are looking to explore the natural wonders of the area (the Retreat is located between 2 of the most visited National Parks in the country), whether you're an animal lover (the neighbors on both sides have horses, the rancher's cows graze on the fields during summer, deer and birds like to bathe in the river, and we have the biggest animal shelter in the US is 45 minutes away) or whether you just want to have a romantic and cozy getaway in total privacy, the Retreat has it all. House rules There is absolutely no smoking in the house. If you must smoke, please do so outside and please pick up cigarette butts. Sorry, no pets. No ATV riding on the property, other than for ingress/egress on the driveway. Please treat the house as you would treat your own, and be respectful of the custom made wooden furniture and wood floors. The Sevier River Retreat is located in Hatch, a small rural town of 200 people. Locals are very friendly and helpful, and you shouldn't hesitate to ask anyone for tips and recommendations. The Retreat is very private on the edge of town. It sits on 9 acres entirely surrounded by the Sevier River, The neighbors in the back are 300 meters away (with horse pastures in between), while your only neighbors in the front are cows and horses, as you look at the pink cliffs of Bryce Canyon. Note that there are no grocery stores in Hatch and you should plan to bring at least some food with you. The nearest grocery store is in Panguitch (15 mins) and you will find a Walmart Supercenter in Cedar City (1 hour).

The NeighborhoodPanguitch information: Located in the valley between the Markagunt and Pausaugunt Plateaus, Panguitch Utah is home to some of the most majestic scenery on earth. A Native American Paiute word meaning “Big Fish,” Panquitch is undoubtedly named for the famously plentiful lake in the nearby mountains, hosting some of the largest rainbow trout in the state and ideal for year-round fishing. In springtime, Panquitch hosts an Annual Quilt Walk Festival where local quilters display both hand-crafted and machine embroidered works of art, while local performers re-enact the story of Quilt Walk and food lovers highlight their culinary creativity with quintessential pioneer cuisine. As the gentle warmth of spring fades and the lazy days of summer make their yearly entrance into the town of Panquitch, the city pulses with excitement as pilots launch a sky-full of hot air balloons into the heavens for the annual Panquitch Valley Balloon Rally. As night falls, spectators in the Historic Downtown area encounter the adventurous spirit of the town’s past, mixed in the magic of glowing hot air balloons as they parade up and down Main and Center Streets, like enormous planets waiting to be explored in the starlit sky. Rodeos, concerts, horse racing, sports tournaments, conventions, and equestrian competitions are hosted at the Canyon Country Complex, the city’s new event center. This state of the art, Triple C Arena is located just off scenic highway 89. July 24th is one of the town’s biggest celebrations. As the rest of the state pays tribute to the settling of the pioneers in Utah with an annual parade and fireworks, Panquitch commemorates this historic “homecoming” with reunions (family and class), a community breakfast, pit barbeque dinner, races, games, rodeo, and a city dance. Summer isn’t the only time to enjoy activities in Panguitch. A New Year’s Eve party is held every year at the indoor Triple C Arena. The whole town comes out to celebrate and enjoy food, games and live entertainment. Ice fishermen can ring in the new year by participating in the Panguitch Lake “Big Fish” Derby. Beginning the first Saturday in January they vie for cash and other prizes by catching the largest fish. For those desiring a more personal tribute to the early settlers of Panquitch, a historic cemetery awaits visitors just two miles east of the town on Highway 89. This hauntingly beautiful burial ground hosts tombstones dated as early as 1870.
