The SpaceThe old post office offers charm and history . Read some of our reviews to gain a better understanding of what is offered. However, the building was built circa 1903 and is entirely made from kauri. The post office served the local community until the 1970's and is still a central landmark. The gardens are pleasant and provide a relaxing respite from travel and general busyness. We also can provide a range of meals with some notice. There is the old postmaster's office bedroom which has a queen sized bed, own entrance and hall with private bathroom and toilet. This is $110.00 per night, inc breakfast. The garden room downstairs has its adjacent smaller bathroom just across the hall and is $100.00 inc brekky. The singles and twin are all at $60.00 pp and include breakfast. Guest AccessThere is a range of my books to read, and a good selection of NZ DVD's. You can sit in the garden, wander down to the creek through the adjacent paddock. Sit on the deck with a drink. Eat at the local bar and grill or investigate the friendly local pub. Visit the famous (not just in NZ)! Matakohe kauri Museum. Kayak from the landing. Use the WIFI....... Interaction with GuestsWe live in the Saddlery Cottage next door, so that guests have friendly conversation on arrival, chats whenever they feel like it and usually over the breakfast table. However, there is plenty of opportunity for their own space. The NeighborhoodThe post office was at the heart of Paparoa, it now sits on a hill above the village. The village itself is a real, functioning NZ village. The people are friendly and welcoming. Enter any business and you will be greeted with friendship. We are surrounded by farms and life style, self sufficiency plots of land. Getting AroundA private car or bicycle is necessary. Although there is a daily bus service to towns on State hi way 12 and 1. Other Things to NoteWe are close to Matakohe kauri Museum which is a must to visit.

The SpaceThis room has the view of, and entry to the rear garden. A larger bedroom with two chairs for quiet reading or take two steps up to another level where there are lots of books and a small TV/ DVD. Also can make yourself tea/ coffee. Guest AccessThere is a concrete path down the side of the bnb with a few steps ( a set of 3) then another set of 3. The access to the upper level where breakfast is served is either through the front entry (2 steps) or up a flight of external steps. There is a handrail here. Interaction with GuestsOf course, I am usually here to offer any help or support. The NeighborhoodPaparoa is a working village. Friendly and comfortable. A local pub offers meals 5 days a week (Monday, no meals and Tuesday only burgers)The local bistro is open Wed -Sunday. There is an excellent general grocery, offers organic food and a great range of fresh vegetables. A market every Saturday (summer) 9-12 sells oil, soap, veges, breads, fish and honey. There is a local art gallery and another 6 kms away. The Matakohe Kauir museum is only 6 kms away too. Fishing and swimming at Pahi (5 km)? away. And a lovely waterfall at Piroa ( 20 mins drive) great swimming or just sit and drink in the green. The local maori pa site walk is a must, 200 yards down the road it starts at the back of the little playground. The loop walk takes about 45 minutes. See kauri of approx 300 years old and hear the tui. A gentler walk is Sterling Kauri bushmens' memorial walk ( 2 kms west of Paparoa) approx 10 minutes to walk the gentle loop walk and try to see where the remnants of the kauri dam is hidden. Other Things to NoteThe building is old for NZ, and quaint and charming. Being made almost entirely of kauri there is no smoking allowed on the premises. If you like History you will like this building, if you prefer modern motel style rooms then probably this is not so suitable.

The SpaceThis single room is very reasonably priced as it includes a quality home made continental breakfast. Fruit is home grown, and the muesli and bread home made. Quaint and charming, although small it has a space for a seat, a place to hang clothes, a place to put your bag and a wall heater. Guest AccessThere is a communal lounge with a TV and CD player and lots of books to read ( not to take however). A large deck at the rear of the property and steps down to the private garden. Interaction with GuestsHost almost always available for help and advice. The NeighborhoodPaparoa is a rural village. It is generally quiet, but friendly. the pub serves meals most nights ( not Monday) and there is a take away bar. The Cruiser is currently open Tues - Sat 9-2 and Thurs and Friday nights for dinner. The Maori pa walk is worth doing and the Matakohe Kauri Museum is wonderful. ( 6 kms away) We are a good stop off point before heading off to Auckland and your flight home. Getting AroundThere is no public transport. Approx 1.5 to 2 hours to Auckland CBD Other Things to NoteThe building is an historic building. It is not motel- like as the structure precludes this. However, if you like quaint, friendly and charming then this is for you. If you do not like floorboards that may slope slightly or signs of age it is not.

Less than 90 minutes drive from the Auckland CBD, Pahi is a slice of how New Zealand was when you were a kid.
