The SpaceThis cave is unlike anywhere else you will stay in Petra. Nowhere else will you have the chance to meet local Bedouins who have spent their entire lives in Petra, sleep in a luxurious modern version of the caves we and our grandfathers grew up in, and even get the chance to try some local cooking! Our motto here is "Feel home," and we are sure you will. Guest AccessGuests will have access to a kitchen, bathroom, and a warm hearth in the centre of the cave. They will also have a large outdoor courtyard and gardens, available at all times for their enjoyment. Interaction with GuestsWe interact with guests as much or as little as they prefer. We love to get to know people who are interested in our home, but also understand the need for privacy sometimes! The NeighborhoodLittle Petra is outside the busy commercial tourist centre of Wadi Musa, giving you a chance to relax and experience a bit of nature. You have the chance to visit the small siq and painted triclinium that few tourists get the opportunity to see. And you will get a sense of what it's really like to live here in Petra where traditional Bedouin culture and the comforts of modern life are constantly meeting and meshing. Getting AroundYou can take a taxi to the house or I can arrange it for you

The SpaceThe Bedouin Desert Eco-House is located in a very small Bedouin village surrounded by the desert and mountains. Guests will have the perfect opportunity to see how a small Bedouin village operates with it's schools and small grocery shops. It is close to Little Petra and is approximately a 10 minute car ride to Petra. The location of the house is great as it is far enough from the Petra city center to enable you to find some peace and quiet and allow you to enjoy nature at it's finest. Guest AccessGuests will have access to all parts of the house; the living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, backyard and patio area. Interaction with GuestsFor a taste of Bedouin life, a Bedouin breakfast is included with coffee or tea. If you wish to experience and have a Bedouin style dinner/BBQ that's an additional price of 8USD per person. Just let us know in advance for how many people and if you are a vegetarian. In addition, the house is located very close to Little Petra, you could even walk there if you wish. To get to Petra that's not a problem! I can take you there in my 4X4 jeep if you wish! The NeighborhoodYour neighbors will be other Bedouins living in the village. Getting AroundI could take you into Petra City or you can use a local taxi. Other Things to NoteI can also help you getting here from Wadi Musa, the airport or the border. I am a tour guide so I have plenty of information about Petra and I can also provide tours around the desert and Petra. If you would like additional information about other parts of Jordan I will be happy to provide that as well. I can also help you arrange accommodation at a camp in Wadi Rum if you wish.

The SpacePETRA, Jordan — Anyone traveling to Jordan should not miss out on a visit to the ancient city of Petra, located 127 kilometers (less than 2 hours) noth of the Aqaba. This city is the primary tourist attraction in Jordan and won second place in the 2007 international competition of the seven "new" wonders of the world. Petra is a historic city located in Wadi Musa, whose name derives from the Arabic name for the Prophet Moses. It is the location of the seven springs that — according to tradition — sprang from the site after Moses hit a rock with his cane. The entire city is carved into rose-colored rock, spread over 40 square kilometers (15.4 square miles). Petra was built by the Nabateans in 400 B.C., and they made it the capital of their empire, considered at the time to be one of the greatest civilizations in the world. Petra is not only distinguished by its Nabatean, Roman and Byzantine ruins but also by the Bedouin population — known as the "Bedul" — who have inhabited the city for hundreds of years. The Bedul are one of the Huwaitat tribes who have historically lived in Petra. They used the land for farming and cattle grazing and lived in the caves to shelter themselves from the cold of winter. The Bedul claim that they are the descendants of the Nabateans and inherited the city from them. They resided in the city's caves until the end of the 20th century. The Bedouins lived in the caves and caverns of Petra — which they called "al-Mughar" — until 1985, when the Jordanian government forced them to evacuate the city's caves and archaeological sites. This was part of a project sponsored by UNESCO and funded by USAID to protect these historic sites from the effects of encroachment. The government established two towns to house them. The first was in Wadi Musa, which the Bedouins moved to in 1978, and the second was Umm Sihon, which the Bedul inhabited in 1985. The authorities moved about 250 families from the caves, providing them free houses in Umm Shihon equipped with necessary services — such as electricity, running water and telephones. Other Things to NotePrice per person per night.
