The SpaceThis modern granny flat, 'Peppercorn Place' has its own private entrance to 5 rooms that are all exclusively yours-so you will have your very own lounge/dining room, bedroom, bathroom, separate toilet and a laundry/kitchenette. (with washing machine, iron, ironing board, fridge, 2 burner hotplate, microwave oven, kettle, toaster, sandwich press, cutlery, crockery etc.) Laundry powder and dish-washing liquid are provided as well as milk, tea, plunger coffee and Oxfam fair trade drinking chocolate. Although I don't provide breakfast, I will leave you a loaf of bread, plenty of condiments, a bowl of fruit and some Haighs chocolates to get you started!
The bedroom has a queen sized bed with electric blanket, dressing table, wardrobe and bedside chests. The granny flat itself was built onto the 1880s blue-stone cottage only 4 years ago with an emphasis on sustainability- featuring double glazed windows, ducted evaporative air-conditioning, solar hot water, (gas boosted) rain water plumbed to all taps and a toilet which has surprisingly become quite a talking point with its integrated hand basin!! (there is a basin on top of the cistern and you wash your hands in the water that flows through a tap and into the basin, then into the cistern for the next flush- see photo!) Although the flat is very well insulated, I have installed a heater in the lounge/dining room for your comfort, if required.
I also provide towels, shampoo, conditioner and a hair dryer in the bathroom and there is plenty of storage space for your own items if you wish. Guest AccessAlthough the flat is attached to the main house, it is a separate and locked-off wing; completely self contained and has separate access. Guests also have their own access to the deck and large back garden from the flat, which you are most welcome to enjoy. I have many fruit trees and a veggie garden and am happy to share any excess I might have with you! Interaction with GuestsI am happy to be as helpful or as discreet as guests require. I want you to be able to relax and enjoy your stay in whatever way you like! I love to meet new people and will warmly welcome you but will respect whatever level of privacy you need to be comfortable during your stay. The NeighborhoodUnley is a beautiful, safe, leafy suburb with many local parks. Within a 2-3 minute walk from the house is a group of shops including a Thai restaurant, a chicken/chip shop that also sells an extensive range of great salads and a Melbourne style "deli" which is very popular for hearty breakfasts, lunches and great coffee! All 3 establishments have vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. .A little further down the road is a pizza and pasta restaurant. If you share my love of Op Shops, there are 3 within walking distance! There is plenty of parking on the street outside the house if required. A ten minute walk will take you to the local library, memorial gardens and a vibrant shopping district including major supermarkets and restaurants. The house is situated very close to a walking trail that has been established with native plants and information boards- great for visitors from overseas to become acquainted with some of Adelaide's natural beauty. Getting AroundIt is a 2 minute walk to a bus stop which will get you into the city in approximately 15-20 minutes. It is a 10 minute walk to buses that can take you to the popular seaside suburb of Glenelg or to Port Adelaide- another popular historic tourist destination. If you have a car, it is a 10-15 minute drive into the city.
The airport is approximately 10 kms away. A taxi to the Granny Flat will cost $25- $30 but there is a regular bus service into the city from the airport that I can provide information about, if required. Other Things to NoteFree Wi-Fi available.
Also provided are miscellaneous items such as an umbrella, basic kitchen condiments including salt, pepper, tomato sauce and mixed herbs, extra towels to take to the beach if required and reusable shopping bags for any trips to the supermarket.
There are no carpeted rooms- great for anyone with dust mite allergies or asthma.
I have two lovely cats and both are friendly, so feel free to give them lots of attention out on the deck or in the back garden- they will love you for it! (I keep them in my section of the house at night.)
