The SpaceWe live on a quiet side street in Historic Hamilton in a 3 story house, a few blocks off of Harford Road and near Morgan State University. We are on the outskirts of the city. It's very quiet and calm, which is perfect for people who are interviewing, on a business trip, or just want a quiet place to sleep after tourism. Usually the type of guests that book are just looking for a quiet, safe place to sleep and take a shower. This is a private room and private bathroom. There is a double bed for 2 people with plenty of blankets and pillows. There are drawers to put your things in, as well as a closet to hang clothes if need be. There isn't a TV in the room so please make sure you bring something to occupy your time if you need something to do before falling asleep. We do have books in the room and we have wireless wifi, so you can get on the internet and stream if you desire. However, just a warning, the wifi can get slow if there are multiple devices using it at a time. Guest AccessThe guests have a private bedroom with a private bathroom on the second floor. On the main level, there is a kitchen to store food and get water, and an outdoors area that guests can hang out and eat during the summer months. Guests are also welcomed to use the washer and the dryer in the basement. Interaction with GuestsMy husband and I are early risers during the week, and my husband is out the door by 5:30am, and I'm out by 6:30. We both arrive home between the hours of 4:30 to 6:30pm. On the weekends, we're both normally home, though sometimes we'll pick up odd jobs here and there. We are mostly "hands off" airbnb hosts, and once I check you in, we just leave you alone. However, we're always happy to provide directions, suggestions for restaurants and even some coffee for guests who request it. We ask please don't cook food in our kitchen, since we use it quite frequently. You can heat up leftovers in our microwave and use our kitchenware within reason. You are also welcomed to bring back food and eat at our dining room. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is very colorful, diverse and safe. We have lots of places to eat that are a walk away, but have all the comforts of suburbia. Hamilton Tavern has one of the best burgers in the city and it's right up the street. Lost in 50s Diner is a great breakfast place that is also right up the street. Getting AroundThere are buses to get around, but it would serve you better if you used uber or rented a car. We have street parking and a parking spot. Normally it takes 15-25 minutes to get to other parts of the city and to places like Towson, Parkville, etc. It also takes 20 minutes to get on the beltway (providing there isn't any traffic!). Other Things to NoteWe have two indoor house cats by the name of Nacho and Beans. They like people, are not declawed and are very well behaved (truly!). If you do not like cats, are allergic to cats, you should find other accommodations. However, if you don't mind cat company or even like cat company, they are happy to assist. I vacuum, dust and change the bedding when guests are coming and do my best to keep the cats out after I've cleaned. However, this is not a guarantee that the room is free of cat hair. It's up to you whether you would like to shut your door, but be aware that Nacho loves that room, and I will normally find him curled up on the bed.
We do have an older hot water heater, so sometimes the water will be lukewarm. Please let us know if this happens and next time, we'll run a load of laundry for you to get the hot water started. The water heater is starting the slow dying process, so communication with our guests is key to ensure hot water showers are being had by all.
Since the price for the room is very inexpensive (est. 30-40 bucks a night versus 150-200 a night for a hotel room), our utility bills should reflect the price you paid for the room. If you run hot or cold, or you are easily affected by the temperature, you should find another place so you have a pleasant time. We do have the AC/Heat on, but we keep it cool in the winter (65F when we are not home, 68F when we are) and warm in the summer (82F when we are not home, 78-80F when we are). During those cooler days in the spring and fall, we like to leave the air off and just open the windows. We have fans and a heater in the room and the room is centrally located so I think, at least, you have the best air circulation out of all the upstairs. With all of that being said, we aren't unreasonable people and there have been times that it has been too hot or blistering cold to abide by the above temp. settings, and we will adjust. If you are using our space to be at home during the day, please talk to us about the temperature adjustment. We may need you to just adjust the temperature when you leave for the day/night so we can negate some of those utility costs.
Finally, if you are having issues or something isn't up to your expectations, please communicate with me and see if it can be fixed. Please be aware that though technically you can get from side of the city to the other in about 25 minutes, we aren't in central Baltimore City, so a car is beneficial.
