      L'Oustal adjoins our home and is completely self contained here in our typical rural French Village from which you can explore this fascinating area and can relax in a home from home atmosphere, we are on the outskirts of Sousceyrac, a village with all amenities and an ideal base from which to discover and explore the wealth of beautiful medieval towns and villages and the wonderful countryside and abundant wildlife. The countryside is a walkers and naturalists paradise. Somewhere Special to stay in this beautiful part of France - our spacious and tastefully furnished gite is a perfect base for two people wanting to relax and enjoy the peaceful countryside of the Lot and the Dordogne. It has a fully equipped kitchen/living/dining room, a large double bedroom. All bed linen and towels are provided with the exception of swimming towels. Outside there is a 12x5 meter pool, pool shower room, BBQ and garden furniture within the grounds of one acre situated between the verdant forests and the Auvergne and beautiful valleys of the Upper Dordogne. There is ample secure car parking space. Bed linen and towels are provided with the exception of swimming towels, also Wi Fi is available. Sousceyrac is a quiet rural and typical French village and offers all you could wish to find on a day-to-day basis. There are two small self-service general shops, each with its own butchers and cheese counter, a boulangerie and petrol station, free tennis courts for which we hold a key. There is also a bank with a cash point, a doctor's surgery, pharmacy, post office, tourist office, where you will find lots of information of the local attractions, restaurants which are all within walking distance. The larger town of St. Cere a picturesque area of the lot is only 15kms away and just 30 minutes away on the other side of the valley is 'Parc Naturel Regional des Causses de Quercy' where spring arrives a little earlier and the whole area is a haven for wildlife, particularly the multitude of butterflies and insects. This vast area is a protected landscape supporting large populations of breeding birds and insects, here you may also find the short-toed eagle, a wonderful hoopoe. A market is held every second Wednesday of the month and there is a well attended local producers market every Sunday in July and August. There are also many local markets nearby with a wide selection of fruit, pate, cheeses and other local produce. For those of you who like the larger shops, there are Saint Cere, Bretenoux and Aurillac, where you will find Leclerc and Geant s well as museums, exhibitions, cinemas and all the usual attractions of the larger towns. This regions of the Lot is an area of exceptional natural beauty and has much to offer for those wanting to have a real French holiday. The superb countryside offers stunning scenery and wildlife and is lush and green for much of the year, access to the Cantal mountains with its carpet of wildflowers stretching into the distance with remarkable great yellow gentian standing tall before its roots are harvested for local liqueur and as autumn begins the walnut and fig trees drop their fruit and the farmers get busy collecting their grapes for harvesting and eventually the tree covered hills turn to a patchwork of gold, red and bronze before winter brings its bright frosty days. Ancient caves, castles and clifftop villages including Rocamadour, the second most visited place in France are all within easy driving distance. The area is safe and quiet for walking and offers a variety of landscapes and distances from a short stroll to a complete day's walking, biking with many varied routes along VTT trials which are well marked for challenging off-road trails and pleasant rides along small virtually traffic free roads and forest paths. If you enjoy fishing you are certain to find plenty of places to suit your style. You can fly fish in many lakes and rivers all well stocked with generous bag allowances. The Dordogne and it's tributaries are within a short driving distance. Several trout lakes can be found within 10 miles. Most species of course fish are abundant and quiet swims can be found on all lakes and rivers, catfish, large carp, barbell, chub, roach, pike and perch can be caught very locally. Holiday licences can be purchased locally. The Tolerme Lake, a large freshwater lake set in glorious surroundings with its own restaurants is only 8kms away and offers fishing, bird watching and other water based activities. Other activities in the area includes a golf course, 20kms away and an equestrian centre only 15kms away. The area is mainly pasture and wildflower being a particular feature. The famous Cahors vineyards are within very easy reach and the area is renowned for its locally produced goats cheese and fois gras, which is a speciality of the area and is available at many outlets in the surrounding villages. There is never a need to go hungry or thirsty as there is a abundance of bars, cafes and restaurants in the area for all tastes and to suit all budgets and most offer a variety of Duck and Veal dishes also a speciality of the area.         This detached holiday house with Jacuzzi lies near the village Parlan, 13 km. north of the charming place Maurs la Joli and 30 km. south of the capital of the Cantal, Aurillac. In the middle of the area the Châtaigneraie ( the chestnut forest). The holiday house is a former characteristic farm house from 1830, which has been entirely and tastefully restored in 2005 and 2006, preserving the original architecture and adding present luxury. The house owes its name to the cow herder Hypolyte, who had his home here after months of travelling with his herd through the Vulcan area in order to make the Cantal cheese in various tastes. After Hypolyte passed away, the farm house became connected to the Ferme de Jaullac and the house was made into a storage barn for hay for the horses and cows, but also an ideal spot for the youngest daughter of the owner of Ferme de Jaullac to meditate. This holiday house is built against a hill, has three storeys and contains a terrace of 25 m where you can nicely sit in the sun and with a splendid view at the landscape. The terrace has terrace furniture, parasol and an electric grill/plancha. Around the house you have access to a well kept garden and an endless piece of land, ideal for children to play around and discover the nature. Besides that the holiday house also has a recreation room with Jacuzzi with an enormous window, which provides with an gigantic view at the green hilly environment, a sauna and massage shower. The vacation home looks out over a large private terrain with views of the forested landscape. This is an area with highlands with expansive horizons, green valleys, rivers and forests, ideal for biking through the chestnut trees. Bike rental, bakery, market and supermarket you'll find in Maurs (12 km), a cozy village with a character and some impressive medieval religious buildings. Also visit the medieval village of Marcolès (30 km) or the castle of Boisset (23 km). Aurillac (40 km) has a lively old center with lots of sights. Visit the Musée des Volcans. Swimming, sailing or windsurfing are possible at the lake of St. Etienne-Cantalès (30 km). For canoeing/kayaking and fishing you can go to Viellevie (35 km) in the valley of the Lot River.
