The SpaceDirect access to the trout-stocked East Verde River with its swimming holes, sycamores, cottonwoods, wildlife, birdwatching and other delights makes the property both an adventurous get-away for nature lovers and a perfect playground for kids. The Tonto Natural Bridge State Park lies about 6 miles down the highway towards Pine. Nearby Payson offers lots of shopping. But the house really offers a peaceful refuge within the sound of the river that will remind you of Sedona at a fraction of the price. Lots of wildlife in the neighborhood. The back acreage includes opportunities for rock climbing and hiking. Nearby Crackerjack Road offers the perfect place for jogging, mountain biking, ATV riding and finding private swimming holes. There are two queen beds in the master bedroom, a full bed in the other bedroom and a futon in the living room. The room under the porch has a daybed. Guest AccessEasy, private access to the whole house. The property includes a guest house, listed separately on Air BnB. When it's occupied, you may want to introduce yourself to one another -- and share the big flagstone patio and fire pit that connects the two houses. Interaction with GuestsHappy to give a tour or suggest activities, but the visit will feel like owning your own riverfront property. I tend to work long hours in town, so sometimes don't get a chance to get out to meet guests. But call me if you have any questions or need anything. The NeighborhoodRural, friendly neighborhood dominated by retirees and second-home owners. If you walk downstream from the house, you quickly get into national forest land, with lots of river access where not many people go. The property is two acres -- but there's we have three neighbors you can see on the other side of the road. You will also sometimes share the drive way with people renting the little guest house and can see the guest house from the front porch and back patio. So it's not secluded in the sense of a little house all alone in the woods. Still, the neighor's houses are usually unoccupied. Getting AroundNeed a car to get into town. Crackerjack Road behind the subdivision goes for miles, providing a great place to mountain bike, take your jeep and get access to the East Verde River. The house is on a dirt road, but it's maintained all year round and only a short drive on the dirt to the house. Other Things to NoteLots of wildlife with the mass of cottonwoods and sycamores providing a wonderful change from season to season. Great swimming holes downstream, which is the best part about staying here (except for the sound of the river at night on the front porch). You'll love Tonto Natural Bridge State Park, which is about five miles down the road towards Pine. Great Thai restaurant in Payson -- also it's fun to visit the Buffalo Bar and Grill, Fargo's Steak House in Payson. In Pine, the Sidewinder Saloon and THAT Brewery have delicious food and beverages. You might also want to hike the Horton Creek Trail, bring snowshoes to use on Forest Road 300 on top of the Rim and a fishing pole. They stock the stream in front of the house during the summer, but Tonto Creek usually provides better fishing. Just let me know if you need any specific recommendations on things to do. I'm the editor of the Payson Roundup Newspaper and will try to leave you some visitor's guides with suggestions on activities.

The SpaceA detached guest house with a studio kitchen, the house overlooks the East Verde River with its own entrance and lots of privacy. Guest AccessPark in front, come and go as you please and walk down to the swimming holes on the trout-stocked East Verde River. Interaction with GuestsI always like to greet folks and talk about what they might like to do -- otherwise, it's like owning your own house on the river. I'll leave the door unlocked before your visit, so you can check right in even if the timing doesn't work out for me to meet you. The NeighborhoodSmall, rural neighborhood five miles outside of Payson -- lots of vacation and second homes. A short dirt road to get to the house. It's country living at a laid-back pace. One caution: Cell phones mostly don't work at the house. Getting AroundNo public transit - but it's just five miles on the highway back to town. Other Things to NoteGreat hiking and biking trails out the front door. You can bring a pet -- but we don't have a fenced yard. Lots of wildlife, great for birdwatching.

In greatroom, 42 inch Phillips flatscreen LCD HDTV with Blue Ray player, Free Netflix and Pandora. Fireplace firewood is provided only in winter season for 2 fireplaces (one in kitchen and other in greatroom). Fire ring firewood (pine) is sometimes stacked near fire ring, but is NOT guaranteed. We are unable to restock fire wood for guest stays except winter season since it is over $300 a cord and there has been some miss use, but it may be collected (for Free) in nearby Tonto National Forest for 'small camp fires for free'. There are many places they have thinned the forest and any cut or downed trees can be taken. You can also purchase bundles at the local gas stations, Home Depot, Walmart, grocery stores, etc... in Payson. We have 2 ceramic heaters. One on each floor. Feel free to place them where you want. (They use much less electricity than baseboard heat.) When you arrive at cabin, if the ceramic heaters are not enough, please turn on baseboard heaters until you have time to light fireplaces. There is one located in bathroom and Bear room downstairs and a thermostat at top of stairs on the left side of wall for the living room. There is one in the Elk room too. Also, the fireplace dampers/flutes are closed. Before starting fires please look up and pull the black bar forward to you to open so fire smoke goes up chimney. If one fireplace is not in use keep that damper closed so smoke from the other fireplace doesn't reenter home because the chimney stacks are next to each other. From our and other guests it is best to place firewood as far back from front as possible to encourage smoke up flute and when first lighting it to heat up the chimney stack with a firestarter stick (not able to keep firestarter log/sticks stocked at cabin. Please bring. Have long matches though). These are just tricks you may already know. When the fire is out its best to close flute as soon as possible, because when the chimney stack cools down it can drive cold smoky air in. If that happens, just open the windows and run the ceiling fans. Note: They are on winter setting. If it is misused, we will not be able to continue offering it free for the fireplaces or may be forced to raise rates. Thank you Very Much. Fishing licenses can be purchased at the camping, hunting, outdoor sports counter of Walmart in Payson. Even in the winter, there is hold over trout at the 1st and 2nd wet bridges. They are the smarter ones that lasted thru the angler season so they are spooky, but if you catch one you are the master! A honey hole document for fishing hot spots will be sent with directions and cabin keyless entry code a day or 2 prior to stay. Please indicate on your inquiry whether you have a dog or 2. There is a flat rate fee for 1 good dog= $50 per stay and 2 good dogs= $75 per stay. This is a no smoking property inside. Please follow all local forestry restrictions for outside as the drought meter changes from green to red depending on local conditions and weather. The SpaceOur private cabin has been in our family since 1970 and was one of the first 12 showcase cabins located in Beaver Valley right on the East Verde River. We are just outside of Payson Arizona by 8 paved miles. Beaver Valley is a 200 acre development surrounded by the (phone number hidden) acre (phone number hidden) hectare) Tonto National Forest. The cabin has been maliciously maintained to its original condition since new -both inside and out. We have a warm knotty pine interior and exterior, western couch and matching chairs which are in like new condition. There are original maps and an antique 1905 wind up wall mounted telephone for extra nostalgia. The cabin has delightful shade provided by trees some of which are 300 year old hardwoods. There is a new stone patio that is not shown in these pictures but overlooks the river just 75 feet away. The stone patio is perfect for a relaxing BBQ or to enjoy the cool breezes that come off the river. Each bedroom has windows that overlook the river which provides recreation, cool summer breezes and natural year round music. Access is available year round via paved roads. There are miles and miles of trails into the forest and countless fishing holes for native rainbow trout (AZ fishing license required) along this exclusive unspoiled section of East Verde River. Hike the river to find your favorite fishing hole and catch your breakfast. Swim along the bank of the river or climb the giant Arizona sycamore trees. Take the day challenge to climb to up to the ancient caves perched 1000 feet above the cabin less than a mile away and see the splendor of the upland forest. Rally the kids to see ancient Indian ruins which are over 1000 years old and just three miles down the road. Consider using the cabin as a base-camp to explore the countless 4-wheel drive roads of the area. Drive up to the next crossing and then hike in to see the largest waterfalls on the East Verde River, which falls almost 4 stories ( ). Build sand castles in the privacy of your own backyard beach while taking in the abundant fresh air and peaceful solitude. The cabin is a quaint two-bedroom one-bath configuration with a small stone covered patio at its side door with sleeping arrangements for 5. The furniture is rustic, comfortable and straight out of the wild-west. The kitchen includes a new refrigerator, microwave, and a 1965 era electric stove/oven in perfect shape and function. The cabin is a great place for the whole family and especially young kids. There is a community field for out door activities immediately in front of the cabin and a fenced children’s play yard with a jungle gym, swings, teeter-toter, merry-go-round and more just a short 50 yards away. The back yard has a sandy section next to the river with ample sun and shade for kids to play and is one of the best fishing holes in the area. There is no internet service but cell phone access is available. Further, there is a color TV and Blue-Ray system but most families encourage playing games at night or reading the antique magazines.
