The SpaceThe casita is about 400 square feet. The covered porch is a great place to relax and enjoy the trees and mountain air. There is a larger closet for storage. Kitchen is equipped with 4-burner gas stove (no oven), sink and refrigerator, coffee maker and toaster. There are plenty of utensils, dishes and cookware. There is a charcoal grill on the porch for your use, just bring charcoal. Check out our handmade bench just a minute's walk away from the casita for great sunset views! Guest AccessThe yard is a bit less than an acre and fully fenced. There is an electronic gate opener, come on in and park. Your friendly dogs may play with our beasties as long as we make sure everyone gets along, if they are cat chasers please keep them leashed! Interaction with GuestsEmily and Matthew live in the main house on the property and will most likely be around to show you the way to the river if you'd like. They will respond quickly to communication if not around the property. LGBTQ allies. The NeighborhoodThe Pecos River Retreats have gorgeous views of the Pecos Wilderness, Sangre de Cristo mountains and Rowe Mesa. There is great hiking right out your door and in the surrounding area if you crave more. Fishing, swimming and hiking down on the river! The famous ultra-funky goat bar (The Alto Bar) is only a few minutes drive down the road. Getting AroundThe casita is 40 minutes from Santa Fe and 30 minutes from Las Vegas, New Mexico. 20 minutes from Pecos. The final mile is dirt road, so we recommend checking in with us before coming in inclement weather if you don't have 4-wheel drive. The road is usually fine, we drive here in small cars all the time. G Maps provides good directions to the place. Other Things to NoteThe nearest restaurants and grocery stores are 30 minutes away so you'll want to bring food or plan on a quick trip to Santa Fe, Las Vegas or Pecos. We provide coffee, tea and non-perishable breakfast items. There is a full kitchen in the space and a charcoal grill for your convenience. The casita is not air conditioned.

The SpaceThis is a small studio space, well lit, with a fridge, toaster oven, hot-plate and other kitchen amenities. The main bed is a twin size bed. The fold down futon is also a twin size bed. (TWIN size is a one person bed.) There is NO TV. You may not get cell phone service here. Verizon is usually ok, but other carriers may not get phone service here. There is wifi that works fast. Guest AccessGuests can park in my driveway. The driveway is a bit steep so four-wheel-drive or at least cars with a bit of a raised undercarriage are recommended. If you have a small Rent-A-Car it is best to park in the street. ) Guests can lounge in the grassy front yard. Interaction with GuestsI can be available or I can leave you to your peace and quiet. The NeighborhoodThe street is a quiet residential area. The casita is enclosed inside a fenced in yard. You can walk to the river in three minutes. The neighborhood is a classic, Norteño culture. There is also a mix of socioeconomic classes here, so you will see some beautiful, fancy adobe houses (like mine) and you will also see trailers and lower income housing. For out of staters.... especially Texans, please note that Pecos is NOT Santa Fe! Santa Fe is like the New York of New Mexico. (I'm originally from NY) Pecos is a way more traditional New Mexican type of town. There are very few amenities, 2 gas stations, a couple restaurants, 2 dollar stores, and a Dairy Queen! The rest is river and wilderness. Getting AroundNo public transit Other Things to NoteThe casita is located in the country! You might see a spider or a bug! This is a normal part of living in a rural community in the mountains.

Interaction with GuestsI live in Santa Fe and would love to meet you if so desire. I'll come to Pecos or we can meet in Santa Fe. My sister, Sara, lives directly across the street and will be happy to help you out. She lives in Pecos full time and can help you with any questions or concerns. The NeighborhoodCamino Rincon is a typical, one-lane Northern New Mexico rural street. The neighbors are a variety of good people including quite a few characters. Casa Dulce was the first house on the street with electricity in 1936. It has always been a gathering place even though it is small in size because it is large in character and charm. Other Things to NotePlease watch your speed when driving into Pecos as the state police officers have been known to set up radar traps. The speed limit is 25 mph in Pecos. Try to make time to drive into the Pecos Wilderness while you're here. Terrero is about 10 miles and a good place to turn around.

Cow Creek Ranch, nestled deep in the wilderness of Santa Fe National Forest and the valleys of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, has served as a relaxing escape for families since the early 1930’s. The ranch, just 40 miles southeast of Santa Fe, is located in the mountains above the small town of Pecos. Formerly known as Martin’s Cow Creek Ranch, Cow Creek Ranch was one of the oldest cattle ranches in the area. Originally the family home of Bob and Louise Martin and their four daughters, the ranch has had a tradition of being family owned and operated for over 80 years. For a complete history of the ranch, The lodge lies in the center of a lush green valley, which is surrounded on three sides by National Forest and is the home of 4 1/2 miles of Cow Creek. Cow Creek is known to have some of the best fly fishing and private quality waters in New Mexico. Beautiful mountain lakes scattered throughout the valley provide wonderful fish and waterfowl habitat and reflect the splendor of the surrounding hillsides. It is in a place such as this that one can truly understand why New Mexico has been called “The Land of Enchantment.”

Located 3.67 miles up Cow Creek Road, log home has upper rental space of 2300 sq. ft. of log home with an open floor plan and 800 sq. feet of deck. Deck has a gas grille and patio furniture. You can see three mesas on a clear day. The size of two bedrooms offers the feeling of great space for each person or couple. There is also a small third bedroom with a queen on that respective floor. In addition , there is a loft with a queen bed and a double bed. Both are comfortable futons. The loft is very popular with children. On the lower level of the home, there is a separate living space (apartment) which is an additional 900 sq. feet with an open floor plan. This can be rented for an additional price. It is a full apartment with a kitchen , dining area, large bathroom, living room and bedroom. It has a queen bed. Again, this is a separate apartment. You either rent the top or both. The Glorieta Mesa runs directly in front of the windows of the log home. The mesa changes in color as the day progresses and the weather changes. Should you be lucky enough to have a thunderstorm, there is a light show you will always remember. The sunsets and night skies are magnificent. I believe it is one of the most beautiful views in New Mexico. There is also patio seating on the deck. In June, the wind gusts are 50 or 60. Furniture blows around and can hit windows. So, they are to be pulled to protected side of deck. A gas grille is available for fun outdoor dinners. There is wildlife to be seen. Deer, wild turkeys and a few larger species of wildlife may be seen. The larger wildlife is seldom seen but there are some. (Large coyotes, bears, bobcats, mountain lions, some say wolves) . There is a full service kitchen in both the apartment and also the main upper log home. Trader Joe's and Whole Foods in Santa Fe offer great supply shopping or the Clines Corners (Eldorado) Exit and up the road to the left has a very large and nice shopping area with a coffee bean store, etc. The drinking water is pure and has a wonderful taste. Beds are very comfortable. The log home has a warm, inviting feel. There is a gate at the entrance which can be locked. Pictures do not do the home justice. Very nicely decorated. Teal large Egyptian wool rug in Master bedroom and very nice huge rug in living room area. This log home is very cozy. This home is at 8200 feet in elevation and does not require air conditioning. Breezes are very good the majority of the time. Of course, there is central heat. This is a big place. And the price is fair. Those inquiring need to understand that this is not just one motel room. La Quinta rents one small room for $129.00 per night. The owner must pay for cleaning and amenities therefore the price is more than fair. In the Fall and Winter, there are propane and wood costs. In addition to electric, there is Direct T.V. and HughesNet. Keywords: 2nd Home Vacation Rental
