The SpaceAloha! Our country estate is in Onomea, 6 miles north of Hilo, on 5 tropical acres with garden and ocean views. The Garden Suite at Onomea is a private cottage with views of flowering royal Poinciana trees, mango, lychee, mountain apple trees, monkeypod trees, and coconut palms. The most repeated description by our guests is 'peaceful'. The suite has a studio layout... bedroom, living room and kitchenette all in one very ample space, and a lovely stone-tiled bath with very high ceilings and gorgeous light. The kitchenette is equipped with an array of cooking appliances for simple cooking needs, and a full sized refrigerator. In lieu of a stove there is a gas barbecue on the covered lanai. The queen bed sleeps two and there is a twin bed that sleeps one additional. Our road is one of the loveliest in all of Hawaii. Artists frequently come to paint it! Within walking distance is the Hawaii Tropical Botanic Gardens. A short hike from the Botanic Garden down the old donkey trail is Onomea Bay. Fed by a mountain stream, this is a truly beautiful coastal spot with a serene majesty. By car, we are less than 8 miles to the 400+ foot Akaka Falls State Park and equi-distant from Volcano National Park to the south and Waipio Valley to the north.... Just two of many other attractions in the area. Sleeps two in queen bed and 1 additional in a twin bed. Private entry in a stand alone building. (cottage suite) Last minute bookings (under three weeks) MAY be discounted. At our discretion, 2 day or even 1 day stays are sometimes possible if our calendar permits. Rates are not uniform for short term stays. Please request a quote. Touring and adventure suggestions in our area: By car, within 15 minutes, are the magnificent 419 foot high Akaka Falls, the charming village of Honomu; and the nearby city of Hilo, center of commerce on the east slope of Mauna Kea and home to a renowned Hilo Farmers Market open daily. Some other places/activities we recommend you think about during your stay, here on the east side of the Island of Hawaii...... Volcano National Park, Waipaio Tide Pools, Mauna Kea Astronomy visitors center, Imiloa Museum in Hilo; three zipline adventures are nearby; several nearby beach parks... snorkeling, swimmng, surfing and boogie boarding; horseback riding is available literally across the street from us as well as up in Kohala and Waipio Valley; The 13,980 foot summit of Mauna Kea is home to 13 international telescopes. The work done with these telescopes are redefining our understanding of of the universe (a visitor center is open daily at the 9,000 foot level); Alahanui Park - Hot Spring Pond; the Lyman Museum, the Tsunami Museum, the Hilo zoo, Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut farm and factory; and.... The SpaceEnjoy the ideal location on the beautiful Hamakua Coast, the green side of the Big Island of Hawaii, on our own piece of Paradise. With the best views of the ocean & Mauna Kea mountain from your own lanai above the rushing waters of the Makea Stream. We call it a river, as it is 30-45 feet wide, in the wading and swimming holes, below the waterfalls (of course). You could spend your whole vacation here, swimming, hiking, and resting or adventuring. On six acres of farm land, we have a little working petting farm; with 2 horses, Thunder and Electra, the miniature horse. 7 goats, milking 2 of them now, so you are welcome to try some goat milk. We hope to try our hand at making cheese soon. Of course, we have chickens and their eggs to gather. We also have two old dogs, Rex and Molly, who will bark at you, then remember you must be old friends. And, of course, two granddaughters who spend weekends with grandma and grandpa; they should be listed with farm animals, I recon. Feel free to collect fruit, in season from our orchard of lychee, mango, avocado, star fruit, bananas and many others including the best melt in your mouth white pineapple ever to be imagined! We have so many, there is are usually a few ripe at all times. We are located 11 miles north of Hilo, at the end of the "Scenic Route" where the botanical gardens, and breathtaking Onemea Bay are; and north of Honoli'i beach and surf spot, where Puff the Magic Dragon hangs out. We are asking $100 a nite, with discounts for longer stays. You can (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) us at Flower Hill Hawaii Guest AccessYour guest private, separate guest suite, is off the large lanai where tradewinds come in off the ocean provide a comfortable breeze. The bedroom has a brass queen size bed, ample storage and closet. Your bathroom has shower (with stained glass doors) and washer and dryer. The main room has a futon, satellite TV, and a kitchenette, with new refrigerator, coffee pot, microwave and convection toaster/oven. There is also a BBQ on the lanai, for your use. I have dishes, coffee, some spices and other things to get you started. Interaction with GuestsWe enjoy guests, and will show you around, introduce you to animals, or fruits, if you are interested. We have a nice topographical map on the big shared lanai where we can point out all the beautiful and intriguing sights, in our area and around the island. The Neighborhood Around us are acres of corn and purple potato fields. With nice side roads for peaceful and scenic walks, you can check out the cliffs and bays of the ocean, right in front of us; as ocean front is public land. Our own road is the back road to the scenic and quaint town of Honomu, with artsty gift stores, ice cream and bakery shops. You will want to drive around to go thru Honomu, and up to Akaka Falls, a brisk hike up and down stairs to a stunning 1000' waterfall. Don't forget the Pit Stop Fruit Stand, just to watch petite Milyn wield a machete o a defenseless coconut, drink the juice from straws, and then watch her chop up the meat to take with. I could go on up the coast, and tell you to check out Kolekole, Haukalau, and all the othe "beach" parks. I say "beach" because they are rocky and rugged and birthed from old sugar mill plantation transportation docks. Which makes them an exploration, not just a destination. But, we will save it for our visit, and show you all the options on our topo map. Other Things to NoteWe are situated between 3 awesome zip line adventures, 2 botanical gardens, multiple waterfall and "beach" parks. The Hamakua Coast has the most beautiful ocean views, and lush landscape; there is always something new to discover.

The SpaceThe Creekside Cottage is ideally located for the most convenient access to all the spectacular sights Hawaii is famous for. East Hawaii (the Hilo side) is the beautiful side of the island, where you'll find all the dramatic scenery, waterfalls, and tropical gardens. No buildings blocking your ocean views. 10 miles or 15-20 minutes from downtown Hilo. Yet quiet and serene, with no city lights, no traffic noise, no roads in sight. Forty-five minutes north of the live volcano. Several beautiful black sand beaches within a few minutes drive. The Creekside Cottage is just a few minutes drive to stunning waterfalls and numerous beautiful beaches. It's close to the best snorkeling reefs and tide pools in the Pacific (on the easternmost point of the island), and less than an hour to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. (The other side of the island, Kona or west side, is barren desert and a 2-3 hour drive to the volcano and all the natural wonders.) The air is pure and sweet due to the trade winds that blow in from the East, sending the acidic volcanic fumes in the direction of Kona. There are fruit trees you can pick and a private waterfall on the property. There is no air conditioning. At a higher elevation (900 ft) than the beach, temperatures are about 5 degrees cooler than Hilo and the breezes that blow up the valley from the ocean are heavenly (the famous "gentle trade winds"). But it's humid, and if you have allergies that are triggered by humidity, you may be better off renting an air-conditioned hotel room. Private homes in East Hawaii typically don't have air-conditioning. Guest AccessYou'll have the cottage to yourselves. You'll share the 20 acres with the guests of the Kapehu Retreat House on the other side of the creek. Interaction with GuestsOur property manger Kealani will greet you on your arrival, and will be available by phone or text if you need anything during your stay. Usually she is within 30 minutes of the property. The NeighborhoodAwesome serenity to soothe your soul. No roads in sight, no traffic sounds, no city lights. No nearby neighbors. There is another house on the same 20 acre estate, which is also a vacation rental, called the Kapehu Retreat House. Both houses have complete privacy because they are separated by 1/4 mile distance and a creek and ravine. Getting AroundThere's plenty of parking for your rental vehicle. Other Things to NoteW(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)

The SpaceElegant luxury home on 20 landscaped acres overlooking the Hamakua Coast with spectacular ocean views. The architect modeled this home after a plantation manager's mansion from the sugar heydays. Two streams, fruit trees and your own private little waterfall. Fully furnished, including linens, washer/dryer, and all the kitchen amenities you need to prepare your gourmet meals. Utterly private: no buildings to block your view of the ocean, no city lights, no traffic noise, no neighbors in sight - yet only 15 minutes from downtown Hilo and the airport. Stunning views in all directions from every room, and the wrap-around lanai overlooks the lush green valley and sparking blue ocean below. There are 4 large bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, comfortably accommodating 10 people. (Logistically, it could accommodate more than 10, but the county has set a limit of 10 on our vacation rental license.) The master bedroom contains a luxurious king size bed with a pillow top mattress. The Pua bedroom and the Wailele bedroom each contain queen size beds. The studio bedroom is the largest room, and it contains a bunk with a twin on top and full on the bottom. There is also a futon-bed in the studio room and still enough space to set up a hide-a-bed. See (URL HIDDEN) Guest AccessWhen you rent the Kapehu Retreat House you don't share it with anyone. You get all 4 bedrooms, the washer/dryer, carport, hot tub, everything - all to yourselves. You're welcome to pick the various fruit growing on the property (pineapples, papayas, figs, lilikoi (passion fruit), 3 varieties of bananas, oranges, grapefruit, lemons, limes, tangerines). And you can play with our friendly pet goats. We leave our own snorkel gear in the house: you can borrow ours if it fits you, but please take good care of it - be sure to thoroughly rinse all the salt water out of it with fresh water after you use it, so it won't get damaged by mold. Or you can pick up your own snorkel gear very inexpensively in Hilo at the dive shops or at Sports Authority or Walmart. Interaction with GuestsOur property manager, Kealani, will check you in and be available by phone if you need anything during your stay. Kealani is a true "kanaka maoli," a native Hawaiian. If you ask her, she can teach you the language or the hula or how to weave leis out of ti leaves and flowers found on the property. And if you're traveling with kids, Kealani has 10 grandchildren and knows all the beaches and activities that kids love. The NeighborhoodThe Kapehu estate is utterly peaceful and quiet. No roads in sight, no traffic noise, no city lights. You can see a glimpse of a rooftop in your distant view, but there are no neighbors in view. (So, no bathing suits necessary in our hot tub!) Getting AroundYou'll need a rental car to get around the Big Island. The bus system is sketchy at best. We'll email you precise driving directions to the property from both Big Island airports. Other Things to NoteThe location is ideal for its closeness to all the natural wonders on the island (nearly all of which are on the East side of the island). The volcanoes national park with its live volcano and lava tubes is a short drive to the south. The most pristine snorkeling tide pools in Hawaii are a short drive to the south-east. All the stunning waterfalls and scenic canyons are along the Hamakua Coast to the north, with the closest one only 4 miles away. There are several gorgeous botanical gardens and 2 zip line tours within a few minutes drive, and 8 black sand beaches within 15 minutes. AMENITIES THAT WE DO NOT HAVE: No A/C: The continuous breezes off the ocean are heavenly all year around, and the elevation is just high enough (900 ft) that it rarely gets hot. Even in the hottest part of summer it will cool off to the low 70's at night. However, some people can't tolerate the high humidity of East Hawaii, and for them an air conditioned hotel room may be preferable. No BBQ: We do not own a gas barbeque grill, though some of our guests have asked about it. Because the Kapehu Retreat House is our home where we plan to live in the near future, we are reluctant to invest in things we'd never use ourselves. There's a small charcoal grill you can use, but we don't supply charcoal or lighter fluid. First check to see if previous guests left some before purchasing it. No light-blocking curtains: There are no curtains or blinds in the master bedroom. Again, it's our home, and we happen to love it when the sunrise hits us in the eyes to wake us. If we installed curtains for guests, we'd remove them when we move in, and then we'd have holes in the window frames. So if you want to sleep past sunrise, you'll need to choose one of the other 3 bedrooms.

The SpaceThe Grand Suite at Onomea is the main residence on five beautifully landscaped acres with ocean views. Our property is rural enough to enjoy country privacy, but just 6 miles from Hilo. There are two bedrooms, side by side, on second floor. Each have a doorway to the lanai with lovely views of the ocean, about 3/4 mile away. There is one full bath next to the bedrooms and a half bath on the ground floor. There is also a sink and vanity in one of the two bedrooms. Each bedroom can sleep up to three but for your comfort, the house is best suited for up to 4 adults, or for families up to 6 with younger children. The full kitchen is an architectural gem, with bright light all day and a breakfast nook. It is fully equipped for any chef! There is separate dining room with a large antique dining table. You can also dine at the big outdoor patio table just off the living room. The living room has a 20 foot ceilings, a wall of windows and garden and ocean views. Even on a day of tropical showers this is a bright and spacious place to curl up and read one of the many books in our library, watch a movie, or play a family board game together until the sun comes out again. The walk down our road is one of the lovliest in all of Hawaii. We are walking distance to Hawaii Botanical Garden, and Onomea Bay, a majestic little forested enclave where a mountain stream meets the ocean. Our estate property is comprised of the main house (the Grand Suite) plus two separate cottages. Each is private unto itself, and are all adjoined by covered walkways. The Grand Suite is the 2200 sf main house. It is best suited for friends up to 4, or families up to 6 with children with young children. I have posted several photos of each of the bedrooms showing the rooms from different angles, and the antique beds. However, please note, though there are many photos of the bedrooms, there are only two bedrooms. There is one full bath upstairs and a half bath downstairs. Adjoined by a covered breezeway is another guest rental: the Garden Suite at Onomea. This is a studio-sized guest cottage (570 sf + lanai). Should you need accommodations for 6 to 7 adults, the suite (sleeps up to 3) can be rented along with the main house. (See the Garden Suite at Onomea on AirBnB) The third cottage is our own little home so we are nearby to help you with directions, touring or dining suggestions or just to come up with extra pillows! Come stay and enjoy the island of Hawaii! About the area.... Our road is one of the loveliest in all of Hawaii. Artists frequently come to paint it! Within walking distance is the old donkey trail to Onomea Bay, a breathtaking bay along the old Scenic Highway. You can also walk to the Hawaii Botanic Gardens. By car we are equi-distant from Volcano National Park to the south and Waipio Valley to the north. The Big Island is a treasure. From the lovely upland forests filled with native birdlife, to the ancient fish ponds of Kapoho, there is a wealth here, both natural and cultural. But then.... that is just the beginning, and it is all within easy reach from our little pocket of earthly paradise here in Onomea! Guest AccessThe main house is all yours, along with outdoor patio off the living room. Interaction with GuestsWe usually greet guests when you arrive, make sure you are comfortable and will likely bring you fresh eggs at some point during your stay. We have three laying hens who free range around the property (but no roosters!) I enjoy helping guests with touring info and restaurants suggestions. We will otherwise be pretty invisible. Donna, a realtor, usually works at her office in town and I am either out on a photo assignment or working on photos at my desk. Many guests come and go without seeing much of us unless they need or want to. The NeighborhoodWe live on one of the loveliest roads in all of the Big Island, lined with royal palm trees down its length to the Scenic Highway. Close enough for a morning walk are the acclaimed Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, What's Shakin Smoothie stand and the 100 year old Low Store. Getting AroundOnce you are booked I will send you a list of weblinks, including some local car rental companies that are not major brands. If you want to visit the very top of Mauna Kea....well above the visitors center.... you will need 4x4 at least for that one trip. Also to go down into Waipio Valley. Otherwise, a normal sedan is adequate for seeing everything else. Other Things to NoteThere is a 'smart' TV in the living room. We do not receive broadcast TV or Cable TV. We DO have internet TV, including Netflix, which has an enormous selection of streamable programming. We also have a DVD player and a library of over 100 movies. We keep our 2 dogs and 2 cats close by us but the dogs will sometimes visit guests and they often end up with the fondest reviews of all. Notes: No cable Tv but we do have internet Tv (streaming) and many videos. Our laundry is not available to use. However we are willing to do a quick load for you if you can simply give us your laundry. We can return it the next day or sometimes sooner. ALSO ON THE PROPERTY is a one-bedroom studio style guest suite (the Garden Suite) which is private and distinctly separate from the Grand Suite. The Garden Suite is often rented concurrently when the Grand Suite is rented. My wife and I occupy our own private cottage on property. All three living quarters are in separate buildings and each have complete privacy from one another, each with their own private views. W(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)

The SpaceThere is foam padding underneath the tent. Guest AccessAs our guests you have full access to the main house: kitchen, living room, bathroom, jacuzzi, and of course the entire land. Interaction with GuestsWe will give you plenty of recommendations for the island and can also provide maps. We both love to cook and often share dinner with guests as well. Mostly we work from home so we're usually around, but we also understand and respect privacy. Though we are omnivores we are also vegetarian and gluten-free friendly. Getting AroundRenting a car is by far the most convenient, and we prefer guests who have one. The island is massive and the best way to see it all is with your own vehicle. The Hele On bus stops at the Pepeekeo Post Office, which is less than a mile from the house. There is unlimited parking space on the property.

The SpacePrivate 3 BR, 3 BA house with back yard pool, lovely grounds, all on a gentle hilltop with great views and breezes. The property is on the southern end of the beautiful Hamakua Coast, 7 miles north of Hilo Hawaii on the Big Island. Guest AccessThe entire house and property is yours to enjoy. Upon booking we'll contact you with directions and the location of the gate opener and the key. The manager, Randall, lives about a mile down the road and can come up to give you tour of the fine points around the house or visit with you about touring or dining in the area. Interaction with GuestsThe manager, Randall, lives about a mile down the road and can come up to give you tour of the fine points around the house or visit with you about touring or dining in the area. The NeighborhoodPepeekeo is north of downtown Hilo by about 7 miles. The house sits on a 3 acre parcel next to the more heavily settled area of the the village. There is an itty bitty convenience store and post office but no real 'downtown'. Shopping is generally done in Hilo. Nearby there is another convenience store that also serves coffee, beverages and a variety of freshly made sandwiches and wraps. What's Shakin' smooth stand is about a mile and a half walk away and the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden is also near.. about two miles from the house. Farther afield, Akaka Falls (440 feet high) state park is in nearby Honomu, about 8 miles from the house. Volcano National Park is just under an hour to the south and the stunningly beautiful Waipio Valley is just under an hour to the north. Our "Pepeekeo House" is a good place for friends and family to base while touring the east side of our lovely Hawaii Island (The Big Island). Please don't expect the ritz! Our place is comfortable and clean but modest in style. The Hamakau coast is our treasured gem, gorgeous and tropical; but if nightclubs, pricey restaurants, mainland rushing, and new, new everything is your thing, we suggest the Kona side or heading to Maui! Getting AroundYou need to rent a car! 4x4 make some destinations possible but generally two wheel drive vehicles are fine. Other Things to NoteThe house was built in the 1970s and has been nicely updated over the years since we bought the house in 2001. What we love about the house is it's unpretentious 'local' style, the really conveniently laid out kitchen, lots of room for dining, the comfortable living room, the wonderful back yard pool, and the very private back yard. The Japanese furo (soaking tub) in the master suite is also very relaxing. When we are there, we practice zazen (meditation) every morning in the zendo.

Enjoy the ideal location on the beautiful Hamakua Coast, the green side of the Big Island of Hawaii, on our own piece of Paradise. We have views of the Ocean & Mauna Kea mountain, but the best views are from your own balcony above the rushing waters of the Makea Stream. We call it a river, as it is 30-50 feet wide, in the wading and swimming holes, below the waterfalls (of course). You could spend your whole vacation here, swimming, hiking, and resting or adventuring. On six acres of farm land, we have a little working/petting farm; with 2 horses, Thunder and Electra, the miniature horse. 8 goats, and a variety of chickens. We also have two dogs, old Molly, who will bark at you, then remember you must be old friends; and young Buddy, a Belgian Shepard who will sniff and love you too much. And, of course, our two granddaughters who spend occasional weekends with grandma and grandpa; they should be listed with farm animals, I recon. Feel free to collect fruit, in season from our orchard of lychee, mango, avocado, star fruit, bananas and many others including the best melt in your mouth white pineapple ever to be imagined! We have so many, there is are usually a few ripe at all times. Your guest private, separate guest suite, has 3 rooms; a bedroom, bathroom, and a living room/kitchenette. It is off the large lanai where trade winds coming in off the ocean provide a comfortable breeze; where the BBQ, with burner, and large dining table with 6 rocking chairs are. The bedroom has a brass queen size bed, ample storage and closet. Your bathroom has shower (with stained glass doors) and washer and dryer. The main room has a futon, satellite TV, and a kitchenette, with all new refrigerator, coffee pot, microwave and convection toaster/oven. I have dishes, coffee, tea, paper towels, rice (and a small rice cooker) some spices and other things to get you started. We are located 11 miles north of Hilo, at the end of the "Scenic Route" where the botanical gardens, and breathtaking Onemea Bay are; and north of Honoli'i beach and surf spot, where Puff the Magic Dragon hangs out. Around us are acres of corn and purple potato fields. Don't forget the Pit Stop Fruit Stand, just to watch petite Milyn wield a machete on a defenseless coconut, drink the juice from straws, and then watch her chop up the meat to take with. I could go on up the coast, and tell you to check out Kolekole, Haukalau, and all the of the "beach" parks. I say "beach" because they are rocky and rugged and birthed from old sugar mill plantation transportation docks. Which makes them an exploration. But, we will save it for our visit, and show you all the options on our topo map.

Hawaii taxes are GET 4.167% and TAT 9.25%, totaling 13.417%. Cleaning fee is variable, based on the number of cleaning crew hours and how clean you leave the premises. For 2 guests it's usually $40, for 3-4 guests it can be $50-60, because of the time it takes the cleaning people to launder more linens and towels. Your deposit is refunded within 2 days after check-out, along with any remaining balance on the prepaid cleaning fee (i.e., you're paying $50 up front for the cleaning charge, but most of the time the cleaning crew charges $40, so any remaining balance will be refunded along with your security deposit). If you prefer to book directly with the owner rather than online through FlipKey, we require a 20% deposit, and the balance is due 2 days before check-in. East Hawaii (Hilo side) is the beautiful side of the island, where you find all the dramatic scenery that makes Hawaii famous: the stunning waterfalls, cliffs and river valleys, the botanical gardens, the live volcano, and pristine tide pools and snorkeling reefs. And the Creekside Cottage is in the very best location for accessing it all. It's the perfect location for your base from which to explore the entire island, so you can just check in and stay - you won't need to check out and into various rentals. Five minutes to Akaka Falls State Park with the awesome 400-foot waterfall and it's famous climbing fish. A few minutes drive to several gorgeous swimming beaches, some of which are frequented by friendly giant sea turtles. 15 minutes to Hilo with its international farmer's/artisan's market, several museums including the tsunami museum, and all the shops, restaurants, and medical facilities you could need. The other side of the island (Kona or west side) is barren desert, and more than 2 hours away from the volcanoes national park and the beautiful waterfalls and dramatic sights. The Creekside Cottage is located on the grand 20-acre Kapehu estate, overlooking the lush green Hamakua Coast and the ocean. The Cottage sits on a hill above the Kapehu Retreat House, another vacation rental (FlipKey #289423). The two homes each have complete privacy because they are separated by a creek, a ravine, landscaping and 1/10th mile of distance. Rate for 2 guests: $105 3 guests: $120/night. 4 guests: $135/night.

Experience the beauty: Expansive views of the beautiful Hamakua coast and the ocean from the spacious veranda. Experience elegance: Grand, architect-designed home, with marble and hardwood floors, wainscoting and fine details. Experience nature: 2 streams and a private waterfall, fruit trees, 20 lush landscaped acres. Experience serenity: No city lights or noise - only the gentle music of the flowing waters and the gentle trade winds in the palms. Experience unparalleled privacy: no neighbors in sight. Experience relaxation: soak in the hot tub: bathing suits option with no one around to see you. Or our property manager can schedule you with a visiting massage therapist for a nominal fee. Breathe the fresh air: Vog is very rare in this particular spot in East Hawaii, because the volcano is south-west of Kapehu, and the wind usually blows in off the ocean from the north-east. (Vog is the volcanic smoke and sulfuric acid fumes that plague the Kona side of Hawaii.) Ideal location: 'Out in the country' feeling, yet only 10 miles from downtown Hilo and 20 minutes from the Hilo airport. All the stunning waterfalls and scenic canyons that the Big Island is famous for are a short drive to the north (for example, Akaka Falls is just 5 miles away). A short drive to the south brings you to the Volcanoes National Park, with the live volcano, lava tubes, petroglyphs, and many miles of wilderness hiking trails. Just a few minutes away are several black sand beaches for swimming or surfing, and the most pristine snorkeling reefs on the island. Also within a few minutes are several gorgeous botanical gardens and zip lines. The climate at Kapehu Retreat House is perfect. Situated at 900 feet elevation, the air is cooler than at the beach or in Hilo town: upper 70's F to low 80's during the day, and upper 60's F at nigh most of the year. In the winter it can get down to 60 at night with a daytime high in the low 70's. Despite being on the rainy side of the island, mosquitoes are rare at Kapehu Retreat House, because the eucalyptus groves on either side of the property emit a fragrance that is a natural mosquito repellent. Amenities provided: The spacious home is beautifully furnished. The fully equipped kitchen has ocean views, granite counters, gas range, large refrigerator with ice maker and cold water, microwave, blender, toaster, coffee maker - everything you need to cook your gourmet meals. The indoor dining room has a beautiful mango wood table and 8 mango wood chairs, and the large outdoor dining table on the roomy lanai has 8 chairs. The living room has a fireplace for those rare chilly evenings. The marble-floored laundry room is equipped with a front-loading washer and dryer. You can park two cars on the carport to keep out of the sun and rain. The large house has 4 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms and a half-bath, plus an outdoor shower, and sleeps up to 10 maximum. NO EVENTS: Because of zoning restrictions (the house is located on a 1-lane farm road), the owners are not allowed to authorize any events, receptions, commercial activities, or large gatherings on the property. Maximum number of people using the house: 10. Maximum number of vehicles at the house: 3.

Onomea Guest Suite is a private cottage with garden views of flowering royal Poinciana trees, sweeping monkey pod trees, mango, lychee, mountain apple and coconut trees, and many other varieties of palms. The most repeated description by our guests is 'peaceful'. The suite has a studio layout... bedroom, living room and kitchenette all in one ample main space, and a lovely stone-tiled bath with very high ceilings and gorgeous light. The covered lanai is enjoyable rain or shine for dining or relaxing. Our road is one of the loveliest in all of Hawaii. Artists frequently come to paint it! Within walking distance is the old donkey trail to Onomea Bay, a breathtaking bay along the old Scenic Highway. You can also walk to the Hawaii Botanic Gardens, and by car, we are equi-distant from Volcano National Park to the south and Waipio Valley to the north.... Just 2 of many other attractions in the area. Queen bed, plus a twin size day bed provides a comfortable accommodation for up to three. Kitchenette has enough cooking appliances that you won't miss the stovetop or oven. You'll find the barbecue on your lanai and many kitchen appliances on the countertop or in the cabinets. A few notes about our guest suite....and us! (Don't forget to READ OUR REVIEWS!!) Our guest space was completed in March 2011, a project lovingly created over two years. The bathroom and shower are wheelchair accessible and there are no steps between parking and entry to suite. There are three separate buildings on the property (the main house and two cottages) all adjoined by covered breezeways. My wife and I occupy our own private cottage. We work from home and are usually available to help you with directions, dining suggestions or simply to come up with extra pillows! The suite is the smaller of two guest accommodations on the property. If you need space for a larger group, the main house (HomeAway # 974771) sleeps 4. Should you be interested in being married in Hawaii, our property is a beautiful setting for a ceremony. I am a lifelong photographer (formerly a film location scout) and can provide photos .... and my wife is certified to perform legal marriages! By car, within 10 minutes, are the magnificent 419 foot high Akaka Falls, the charming village of Honomu; and the nearby city of Hilo, center of commerce on the east slope of Mauna Kea and home to the renowned Hilo Farmers Market. Some other activities we recommend you think about during your stay, here on the east side of the Island of Hawaii...... Horseback riding in Kohala or Waipio Valley; a zipline adventure; several nearby beach parks, snorkeling, Champaign Ponds, photography, hiking; bird watching; a visit to the 13,980 foot summit of Mauna Kea where 7 international telescopes are redefining our understanding of the heavens (a visitor center is open daily at the 9,000 foot level); Alahanui Park - Hot Spring Pond; the Lyman Museum, the Tsunami Museum, the Hilo zoo, Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut farm and factory; and.... Volcano National Park. There is a clickable calendar at this site. Please check the calendar for availability and contact us about any questions. Aloha and welcome to the Eco House at Pepeekeo. The home is a brand new 2 bedroom, 2 bath home that offers ocean views, serene surrounding and privacy that you won’t find in the more touristy resorts on the Big Island. Once you set foot on this beautiful 8 acre property, you will see why we choose this location for our home. From the lanai you can see the ocean and watch the occasional cruise ships and barges heading in and out of the harbor in Hilo. A meandering stream runs along the property that leads to an impressive waterfall. Fruit trees have been planted by the hundreds on the land. And lush, colorful gardens are found surrounding the house. Get up early in the morning and see the sun rise from the ocean and watch the red clouds in the sky. Get outside at night to watch the moon rise from the ocean or stay up to enjoy the beautiful stars and milky way in the middle of night. The well appointed home features 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, full kitchen and an open living room / dining room area. One bedroom offers a queen bed and the other has two twins. There is also a futon bed/couch in the living area that folds down for sleeping. The kitchen has a large island and new, stainless steel appliances and quartz counter tops. The living room has a large screen smart T.V. that you can watch DVDs on. One bedroom also offers a large smart TV. The home is eco-friendly and completely off-grid. Electrical power comes from solar panels with a back-up propane generator. Hot water for bathing also is generated from solar panels. Water comes from a filtered tank system that catches rain water that falls on the roof. Our home is located at the end of the historic Hamakura scenic route. Nearby you'll find the Hawaii Botanic Garden, a real wonder of nature. Also close by is Akaka Falls, where you can visit its 442' tall waterfall. Waipio Valley to the north and Volcano National Park to the south are also must sees as well. Our goal is to offer your family a clean, comfortable place to stay at a reasonable price during your adventure on our amazing Big Island of Hawaii.

Perched above a spring-fed babbling brook on 20 private landscaped acres, the Creekside Cottage offers the peace, serenity, privacy and nature that will melt away your stress. Ten miles (15-20 minutes) from downtown Hilo, on the lush and scenic Hamakua Coast with ocean views. Perfect for a couple seeking a romantic getaway. Escape from the tourist traps and the hustle-bustle of city life, and relax in the vibrant natural environment of authentic Hawaii. No city lights to dim the night sky: great star-gazing! Utter peace and quiet - no traffic noise, no city sounds, no nearby neighbors. Utter privacy: between you and the nearest road is a eucalyptus forest. In addition to the loft bedroom with queen sized bed, there's a sofa bed in the living room that will sleep an additional person or two - up to 4 guests total. 1 full bathroom plus 1 half-bath. Fully equipped kitchen. Screened-in lanai. East Hawaii, the Hilo side, is the lush beautiful side of the Big Island. And the Creekside Cottage is perfectly located for the most convenient access to all the spectacular sights and adventures Hawaii is famous for. (The west or Kona side is barren desert, and a 2+ hour drive to any of the natural wonders.) All the waterfalls and river canyons the Big Island has to offer, are located along the Hamakua Coast, and the Creekside Cottage is in the midst of them - nestled in a beautiful river valley in the Hamakua Coast district. Stunning 400-ft Akaka Falls is located in the next river valley up the coast, 5 miles away. World-famous Waipio Falls, with a double 1,000-ft waterfall, is a little farther up the coast to the north. The most pristine snorkeling reefs and tide pools in the Pacific ocean are close by, on the easternmost point of the island. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park - with the active volcano, fascinating lava tubes, and hundreds of miles of hiking trails - is less than an hour to the south. (If you were to stay on the other side of the island, in touristy Kona, you'd have to drive more than 2 hours to get to the Volcanoes Nat'l Park.) Within 15 minutes of the Creekside Cottage are 3 beautiful botanical gardens and 2 thrilling zip lines. The owners have zip-lined in numerous parts of the world, including in Costa Rica where zip-lining was first invented, and we can testify that the zip line at Akaka Falls is one of the most thrilling in the world.
