Fragrant rose bushes are planted right outside the window and local birds love to play in them. We want you to feel like it's your own home! There is a small mini-fridge is in the bedroom and for longer stays, you can even use the big fridge in the kitchen. The laundry room is available upon request. Our inside quiet hours are between 10pm and 7am. Interaction with GuestsWe would like to ensure that your stay starts off on the right foot so we will be on hand to welcome you. Once you've had a chance to settle in, we'd be happy to discuss local areas of interest, our favorite restaurants, and where to find basics like the grocery store, Starbucks, Costco, and Barnes & Noble (gotta have priorities, you know!). Throughout your stay, we will likely be home, but even if we are gone, we are only a text message away. We'd be happy to provide recommendations, advice, or anything else that might pop up during your stay. Don't hesitate to ask! The NeighborhoodWe are within 10 minutes of Hwy 15, 138, and 395 but 2.5 miles from "civilization", this easy access, yet far out location is on a couple of acres at the dead end of a quiet, rural dirt road. **Five minutes from a paved road **Ten minutes from Phelan (grocery shopping, restaurants) **Ten minutes from Hesperia (Target, Starbucks, restaurants) **Fifteen minutes from Victorville (Mall of Victor Valley) Our neighbors are fantastic and it is usually very peaceful. We have a neighborhood watch so this is generally a very safe place to be. If anyone asks you why you are here, just let them know you are staying with us. Everyone watches out for everyone else here and we like it that way. No one lives behind us or on one side, and the neighbors on the other sides are a distance away, so there is a lot of privacy. Sometimes on weekends dirt bikers and other off-road vehicles ride off into wilderness adventures behind the house, making this a perfect location if you like to get away from it all... but still be close enough to the "real" world to get a Starbucks in the morning. If you like taking walks or running in the mornings, ask Steve for some trail ideas. He runs in this area on a regular basis and knows all the good spots. Getting AroundGETTING HERE: We are about 2 miles down a San Bernardino county dirt road, which can be a little lumpy and bumpy. Low-riding vehicles are not recommended, however, our little Honda Accord didn't have any problem. It is recommended that you drive slowly to avoid any issues once you turn off pavement. DRIVING: We are five minutes to a major paved road and within ten minutes of Hwy 15 and 395. Hwy 138 is about 15 minutes away. Hwy 18 is about 20 minutes away. UBER: Uber is available in this area. AIRPORT: The Ontario Airport (ONT) is only 45 minutes away and there is a little local airport about 20 minutes away (Hesperia-L26). BUSES: Victor Valley Transit Authority has a bus stop at the end of our road, about 2 miles away. VVTA provides fixed route bus service to the cities of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Hesperia, Victorville and portions of San Bernardino County, including Lucerne Valley, Phelan, Wrightwood, Pinon Hills, Oro Grande, and Helendale. With weekday bus service that stretch from Barstow to Victorville and down into San Bernardino Valley at Fontana, and the city of San Bernardino, VVTA also provides commuter service to the United States Army's National Training Center (NTC) at Fort Irwin. The Greyhound bus station is located at the Amtrak station in Victorville (25 minutes away). Private vehicle transportation is best for exploring the area. TRAIN: Amtrak has a Victorville station (25 minutes away) and a San Bernardino station (45 minutes away). The closest Metrolink station to go into Los Angeles is in Rancho Cucamonga (45 minutes away). PARKING: Free parking is on the premises. Other Things to NoteThis is a rural location in the High Desert, and we love our pets. We have four dogs, four cats, four goats, and a tortoise. They are all very friendly, but if you have allergies, this might not be a good choice for you. We aren't sure if the tortoise is friendly because, well, he's a tortoise and not really very warm and fuzzy. He hasn't bitten anyone that we know of, but we always recommend giving animals the space they need. He does try to escape his pen on a regular basis though. He's closing in on 60 years old, so I guess he's entitled to do what he wants. Tricky, that one is! Animals make noise, sometimes smell funny, and can be rude to each other, but if you enjoy the country life, you'll love it here! For the most part, the animals are not allowed in the bedrooms (although the cats are often inside), so those are generally pet free zones. The dogs are generally quiet at night and usually only bark if they are playing or warning us of strangers. You are welcome to interact with the animals or ignore them, but we hear that petting animals can be quite therapeutic. Most importantly, we want your trip to be a special memory, even if it is only an overnight pit stop.
