Just five minutes down a State Scenic Road from world-famous music venue Pappy and Harriet's Pioneertown Palace, and amidst spectacular vistas at 4,400 feet, nestled in the foothills of the Big Bear Mountains is the undiscovered gem called Pipes Canyon and High Desert Eden. Adjoining 33,000 acres of Wildlands Conservancy, our gorgeous solar and wind-powered Southwest casita is a refuge of quiet serenity. High Desert Eden's 22 acres is surrounded by a panorama of rare flat-topped mesas, jagged peaks and giant boulders. It delights the senses with breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, and the Milky Way on display virtually every night. Our luxurious casita with plush furnishings and stunning vistas from every window will delight you senses and soothe your soul. We enjoy four seasons here, each with its own distinct pleasures; spring with its unmatched wildflower bloom; summer (20 degrees cooler than Palm Springs, 10 degrees cooler than Joshua Tree) with maximum greenery and balmy, star-filled nights; autumn's crisp days and changing colors; and snow for a fantasy winter holiday. We are located 2 hours east of Los Angeles and a convenient, scenic 45-minute drive from Palm Springs International Airport. Historic Pioneertown is minutes away. If what you seek is tranquility, quiet and heart-stoppingly beautiful vistas, you've come to the right place. Mountains, mesas, giant boulder formations form a 360 panorama like no other in California. Our little corner of the world has more vegetation and wildlife than anywhere in the high desert. We're centrally located for visits to Joshua Tree National Park, the Big Morongo Canyon Sanctuary, several Wildlands Preserves, historic Pioneertown and Big Bear Lake.

The SpaceThe Guest House comes well equipped insuring a comfortable stay in the desert wilderness. A well stocked kitchen, a Queen Bed with thick memory foam matress topper -- linens included -- plenty of reading materials on the local flora and fauna including books on Joshua Tree National Park with bird and animal reference guides. Binoculars and bird seed included! Also, there is a private meditation/yoga hut nestled in the boulders, a hot tub to soak under the stars in (no jets due to noise pollution!), a Bose stereo system, a flat screen tv with dish network, dvd player and dvds. The Gamma Gulch Guest House is very unique in that it offers a genuine high desert wilderness experience. One feels as if they are staying in the Wonderland of Rocks area of JTNP, less the tourists, traffic and noise. The space fits two comfortably. Guest AccessNearby attractions include Joshua Tree National Park, fun and funky antique shops in Old Town Yucca Valley, New Age sound baths at the odd and interesting "Integratron", and for your dining and entertainment pleasure there is "Pappy and Harriets", a renowned honky tonk restaurant with live entertainment. You can do a web search on all of the above to find out more. Interaction with GuestsMy wife and I live adjacent to the Guest House in the original one bedroom cabin built in 1949. (The Guest House was built in 2005) We are available should you need anything...ideas on where to hike, unique places worth visiting. Many of our guests enjoy accompanying my wife Sachi on one of her daily hikes and they find it really helps them become familiar with this vast desert landscape. Many guests say their hike with Sachi was one of the highlights of their visit, especially when they learn that their hiking guide, Sachi, was a Buddhist monk in Burma with quite a moving story (see profile). It's important to know that even though we are close by that we are here should you need anything but otherwise you'll be left alone to experience the wonder and quietude that this special piece of desert has to offer. The NeighborhoodThe guests that are attracted to our place claim they are in need of getting away from it all. The hiking opportunities are endless and the chances of seeing anyone on a hike is remote. Other than one neighbor a few hills over, our next closest neighbor is 1 mile away. No street lights, no traffic noise. It is a 3 mile drive on a dirt road to get to the Gamma Gulch Guest Cabin and the chances of any vehicles driving by during your stay are pretty slim. If you look at the maps of most properties listed you'll see they sit on 2 or maybe 5 acres, whereas the Gamma Gulch Guest House is situated on literally thousands of acres of protected wilderness. Other Things to NoteMy wife and I live adjacent to the guest house. The two structures are separated by a carport. Please note that we respect your privacy yet are available should you need anything as per our Reviews. You'll travers 3 miles of dirt road, some of it bumpy, to get to the Guest House. We've had many a low slung Prius and Honda Civic and recently a Corvette Convertible as guests but if driving on a dirt road is unsettling you may wish to choose a place closer to the pavement. Lastly, our hot tub is a very simple affair ... no jets or bubbles... it is heated 24 hours day and seats two comfortably. It is located next to our main cabin and has a privacy fence. No bathing suits required ... flip flops and robes provided. Lastly, the Guest House is located in a truly natural setting ... it is surrounded by miles of protected wilderness right outside your door. This is what separates us from 99% of the listings out there... one can easily see the difference if one checks us out on one of the internet satellite map sites. Any questions, feel free to run them by us. Thank you :-)

The Space"Dos Goats" is a 27 ft. Wildwood pop-out trailer that can become your temporary home. Enter into an open kitchen area with cozy booth seating or relax on the couch which can also be made into a comfy bed. The kitchen comes with a double sink, microwave, refrigerator, toaster and coffee pot. There is a separate bathroom (with shower) and a sleeping area with a full size bed. Beautiful wood cabinets fill the interior and each window has blinds with matching window dressings. The outdoor patio has a covered picnic area for shade. Outdoor cooking can be done on a gas grill. The property boasts two goats; Shay and Kit. They love to be hand fed peanuts! I have five chickens , four ducks, as well as an aging cat. children will love feeding the animals. Upon arriving, guests will be greeted with a "Welcome Basket" filled with a ready to eat picnic tray containing hard boiled eggs, greek yogurt, homemade muffins and fruit. The weather in Pioneertown is generally a few degrees cooler that Yucca Valley or Joshua Tree. We are at a higher elevation. Most days will be comfortable with nice breezes but for the exceptionally hot days there is air conditioning in the trailer. Bitter winter evenings can be warmed with our propane heat. I was reminded not to forget mentioning the beautiful view of the Sawtooth Mountains as well as the often snowy caps in Big Bear. Guest AccessGuests have access to our big backyard and The Happy Trails Art Studio on site. Interaction with GuestsIf you always wanted to explore your "ARTISTIC SIDE" but never had the time to sign up for a class or were too shy to join a large group, now is the perfect time. Explore watercolor or acrylic painting with a private lesson and go home with a completed original work of art. You can choose from a selection of landscape scenes or still-life. The lesson includes all material for $45 (approx. 2hrs), children are half price. The NeighborhoodBesides relaxing in a hammock from Ecuador or reading a book under a tree, there are marked trails just outside the back gate. You can take a short walk or turn it into an all day 10 mile hike. Each trail takes you past huge boulders and amazing scenery. If you come in the spring, wildflowers carpet the ground in purple, yellow, blue and white. Winter can bring the possibility of snow (yes, we had over 2 feet a few years back). Summer often carries lightening storms that dazzle the night skies. Autumn is my favorite season here with just the perfect nip in the air. Check the events schedule at Pappy & Harriet's to see what music is available. The selection can be Blues, Rock, Country or Open Mike Night, all depending on the day of the week. Some events require tickets but many are free. Best of all it's only a short walk from trailer to cantina. No car is needed, just a flashlight for the return trip. The stars are amazing in the desert. They seem to fill up the whole sky. You can lie back in our comfortable anti-gravity chairs and hope for a shooting star while sipping wine or hot chocolate. No matter the season, evenings are always cool at 4100 feet elevation. The Happy Trails Art Studio is attached to my home. Please feel free to look at the art and take home an original work. Blank art cards sell for $5 and fit into a 5x7 frame. They make a wonderful gift or souvenir from your trip to the desert. Paintings, collage, furniture, painted glassware and more are available to enjoy or purchase. Check out the art by googling "happy trails art studio pioneertown" to get to my website. The NeighborhoodI purchased this acre-and-a-quarter property in Pioneertown in early 2014 with the goal of building a prototype home for a new company, Homestead Modern. Homestead Modern No. 1 is the result of that. Pioneertown appealed to me for a number of reasons. As a former movie and TV Western set it has a fun old Hollywood vibe. It also sits amidst a breathtaking tableau of craggy desert mountains and epic flattop buttes – with endless opportunities for high desert exploration. And as a bonus it features Pappy & Harriet’s, the popular music and food venue. Story of Dragonfly Dragonfly is an alternative solar powered, off-the-grid, artistic, architectural and sculptural project that has been and will evolve over the next few years to its completion. As an artist and a designer, with a passion for alternative architecture, Dragonfly Desert Retreat represents a vision perhaps ¾ finished. In 2006, I began designing, building and living for 4 years full time, with much fewer conveniences than it now has. While I am still working to complete the vision and make it more and more comfortable, the setting allows one to experience the pioneering spirit, and feel a deep connection to the exquisite natural surroundings. My vision for the completed project are sculptural domes that compliment the natural environment. Please excuse unfinished areas as each month, progress is being made but it is always set up to be a beautiful appealing space for use. I am excited to be sharing it with those seeking a rich and unique desert experience! Thank you, Magdalen Boyd-Wilson PLEASE READ ALL HOUSE RULES BEFORE BOOKING to make sure Dragonfly meets your needs. The SpaceThe Olive Adobe is a comfortable, private retreat on 7+ acres, nestled behind terra-cotta walls. 50-year-old, gnarled olive trees, raised perennial beds and pea gravel paths surround the house and every room opens to the outdoors with sliding French doors. Kick back, put your feet up and relax. Lose yourself in a classic novel, gaze at the multiple species of birds from humming to hawk, discover your artist or photographer within. And after a long day of exploring the local rock formations and petroglyphs, enjoy a toast in fine crystal as you relax next to a crackling avocado wood fire in the outdoor fireplace. As the Milky Way slowly emerges directly above you, stargazing might just become your new passion. Inside, you’ll find spacious living and morning rooms containing an eclectic mix of cowboy chic antiques and mid-century modern pieces and collectables from our travels around the world. Mexican and Native American pottery and baskets, and colorful serapes create a comfortable, relaxed, 'put your feet up' elegance that makes this charming adobe feel like home. 2 bedrooms open onto a “secret” back garden with a delightful iron bistro table set for two next to the grape arbor. The front bedroom (the owners' personal favorite) is glass on three sides - a former porch - with access to the comfy porch swing facing west for sunset viewing. There’s even an outdoor shower when you really want to commune with nature! Guest AccessRun of the house. A fully equipped kitchen is waiting if you want to eat in. Colorful china and bake ware, heavy cutlery and bandana “napkins” make even a simple meal special here – especially when you eat it by the fire, outdoors, under the stars. Interaction with GuestsOne of our neighbors will provide check in service upon arrival. The NeighborhoodWe’re only minutes from Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace, but this canyon feels like it’s miles away from everything. Pipes Canyon is bordered by 35,000 acres of “The Pioneertown Mountains Preserve” to the west and 60,000 acres of federal land to the north. It’s isolated, and completely private. It’s like living in your own National Park. There are views of the sawtooth mountains, flat-topped mesas, and impossibly balanced boulders with miles of hiking and riding trails just out the door!! At an elevation of 4000 ft, the summers are cool (10 degrees cooler than Joshua Tree and 15 – 20 degrees cooler than Palm Springs) and winter often brings a dusting of snow. Whatever your passion, you will find new inspiration at The Olive Adobe in Pioneertown! Getting AroundMust have a car for provisioning. Hikes and horse trails right outside the door. Other Things to NoteWe searched Palm Springs for the perfect house for several years, frustrating scores of real estate agents, and then we fell in love with this improbable place, and with this quirky, comfortable, and very special house, with this canyon and it's human and animal inhabitants. Pioneertown is unlike anyplace else - a pastiche of leathery wild western cowboy chic, edgy tattooed musicians and looney contemporary artists. The scenery calls everyone here to stare slack-jawed at some of nature's finest work. The air is clean and the skies are clear here, and for the open minded, stereotypes and human histories are quickly forgotten and friendships are easily made. The locals are bound to this special place of harsh contrasts - tawny, brittle dried sage against delicate, boldly colored wildflowers; shards of crunchy, decomposed granite against impossible stacks of enormous cantilevered, vanilla boulders; rattling pit vipers and tarantulas against iridescent hummingbirds and America's largest, languid desert cats. Darkness comes quickly here but not without a robust explosion of shrieking color, and then - stars... More stars than you remember as a child - by a factor of hundreds. Each season brings new wonders. This canyon is as ancient as the earth itself - primordial and at the same time made fiercely contemporary by the people who have settled here and call this place home.

The Off-grid itHouse is one of 10 IT Houses built in California, which have received much acclaim such as the Western Home award sponsored by Sunset magazine. Also noted as one of the top 10 airbnb rentals worldwide. This is the prototype for the pre-engineered system known as the IT House. The Space(please read entire description) There's definitely a difference. And if you're familiar with vacation rentals, you already know what we're talking about. It's not about the fifteen private, boulder-strewn acres. Not about the sunsets and starscapes that make the nights as lit up and magical as the days. Wildlife emerges, winds rustle, sometimes, water rushes through. At night the stars explode with life. IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU RESPECT THE SERENITY HERE. We do not permit loud music, excessive lights, noise, traffic, or fires. These rules are enforced by our representatives at EVERY BOOKING. The SpaceWelcome to Frontierville, a lovingly restored homestead cabin originally built in the 50s by Italian-American artist Pasquale Napolitano. (RETURNING VISITORS, UPGRADES FYI - we replaced the fridge with a quieter unit, put dimmer switches on the lights and got a better-sounding stereo.) Leave the city behind and discover the wonders of the high desert down a one-lane dirt road. Experience the majestic wilderness of unspoiled Mojave landscapes in historic Pioneertown, where “the mountains meet the sky” according to the old cowboy classic, “Out in Pioneertown.” Situated between Joshua Tree and the peaks of Big Bear, Pioneertown features pine trees, mountain oaks, junipers and bristling cacti as well as the region’s unique signature tree. Because of the higher elevation, temperatures are generally cooler than Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley, with the occasional winter snowfall. Come for a midweek rock show at Pappy’s and avoid the long drive home, take a romantic weekend escape or treat yourself to that much-needed week alone to work on your screenplay. Bring hiking boots a hat and binoculars and you’ll likely spot a red tail hawk or a quail family poking around, cottontails and jack rabbits, and maybe a bobcat if you’re lucky. Or just brew up a cup of coffee, relax on the porch and enjoy the unobstructed panoramic view, the brilliant sunrise, the golden silence, and more stars than you can possibly imagine. Interaction with GuestsWe will aim to meet you at the cabin to let you in, but we understand that the seclusion is one of the best parts about the cabin, so your privacy will be respected. We live nearby and can always be reached. Please don't hesitate to call. The NeighborhoodWith gorgeous views of the park’s tallest peaks in the distance and next to zero light and noise pollution, this remote getaway has all the privacy you could ever want. There’s easy access to downtown Pioneertown for a show or barbecue at Pappy and Harriet’s or a stroll down the historic faux-Western Mane Street. Take a scenic half hour drive to downtown Joshua Tree for a hand-poured coffee and delicious meal, then head into the treasured National Park. Drive an hour down the hill to the chic restaurants and shops of revitalized Palm Springs. Or step right out the front door and explore the pristine natural wonder of backcountry Pioneertown. Getting AroundLucky 777 taxis do service the area if you want to go to a show at Pappy's and not have to worry about driving. (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) (URL HIDDEN) Other Things to NoteHOLIDAY BOOKING: We have a three night minimum for bookings that include Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve/Day and New Years Eve. CABIN SIZE: Our cabin is a small one bedroom. It is perfect for two people. If you are a family wanting to bring a child, feel free to contact us, but we have discovered that the cabin best suits only two people. PLEASE NOTE!!: You will be staying in a restored 1950s homestead. We've attempted to make the cabin as comfortable as possible given the limitations of the existing structure and utilities. This means you are trading some amenities for the experience. The shower probably doesn't have the kind of water pressure you're used to if you live in a city. The hot water doesn't stay hot very long (small tank, small electrical system = short showers, no bath). If you use a hair dryer, the A/C, the toaster and the hot water at the same time or you'll probably trip a circuit. People seem to really love it here, but if this doesn't work for you, we totally understand. No hard feelings. CELL PHONES: Not all cell phone companies have service in Pioneertown. We get AT&T pretty reliably, but the rest are spotty. WI-FI: We do have Wi-Fi in the cabin, but there are occasional outages beyond our control once every few months. We do not guarantee you will have full access 100% of the time you are here (though you most likely will). It's a bit of a miracle that we even have internet at all as some of our neighbors do not. Hopefully this will not be an inconvenience. BBQ: We have a propane BBQ for your use! Air Conditioning: There is a window unit A/C that keeps the bedroom cool if the door is closed, but the rest of the cabin is not cooled much by the A/C. Most of the year this is not an issue but July/August can be quite hot. If it's over 95 degrees be prepared to feel warm in the cabin.

The SpaceThe Roadrunner Ranch is a spacious 2000sqft 4 bedroom, 3 full bath home situated on 2 private acres, across the street from Pappy and Harriet's in Pioneertown. Perfect for catching a show and not worrying about parking or driving to get there. The house is a blend of a mountain chalet and the old west charm of Pioneertown. 3 bedrooms are equipped with queen beds and the remaining master suite has a king bed. The master bedroom has it's own private en-suite bathroom with a private entrance for added privacy along with a walk in closet. The rear bedroom is accessed through laundry/utility room to give an extra layer of privacy or quietness from the rest of the house, also has another private entrance from the side of the house and it's own full bathroom. There is a Queen size luxury inflatable bed with built in blower for extra guests. Our house is pet friendly if prior arrangements are made. There is an extra large breed dog door located in the laundry/utility room that leads to a fenced-in dog run complete with a water spigot and shade. Only requirements are NO pets on the beds or couches/chairs and please clean up after them. There is a pet waste disposal bin located next to the dog run. Heating and cooling is provided by a Central A/C system and Propane combo. Simple NEST Dial to set the temp you want, cooling the house in minutes or a warm feel on the chilly nights. A wood burning fireplace is located in the living room with a rustic rock surround for that cozy wine by fire light. A barbecue grill is included for cooking as well as a fully stocked kitchen. The kitchen has almost every appliance you would need for cooking at home and enjoying the beautiful desert views. Even a dishwasher! Reverse Osmosis water available through a separate spigot on the sink and also cooled through the fridge water and ice feature. Decided to tone down the house a bit when it comes to colors and materials. Most of the time you are outside in the bright desert sun and when you step inside it's a great feeling being able to turn down the brightness a few notches. It gives the house a much more warm and relaxing feeling at night or even during the day with the wood shutters drawn. If you like it bright, there's plenty of lighting or just open the shutters and let the sun in! House comes with free Wi-Fi and a land line with free long-distance in case you do not have cell service. Whether in town to catch a show at Pappy and Harriet's across the street, hike around Joshua tree National Park, or visit the Integratron, this home will meet your needs. We hope you enjoy your time at the Roadrunner Ranch as much as we do! 1 night stays during the week are ok, but 2 night minimum on weekends(Fri & Sat night) Photo shoots and events are approved on a case by case basis. There are usually no problems with either, we just have to give our neighbors some advanced notice. There is also a location fee if shooting at the house or on the property. Look forward to having you as a guest in the future and to enjoy Pioneertown and its surrounding attractions as much as we do! Guest AccessGuests have access to the entire home. Interaction with GuestsSometimes I am around the neighborhood, but otherwise I can be reached 24hrs a day via email, cell or the free long distance land line in the house incase you don't have service. The NeighborhoodPioneertown is a great neighborhood and community. Lots of sightseeing right in town or head to one of the close attractions. Getting AroundThere is plenty of room for parking. There is also a cab company that can pick you up at the house if you are heading into town and don't feel like driving. The company is called Lucky 777 cab company and their number is located on the fridge. Other Things to NoteWe usually leave a Duraflame log or two for our guests but it is always recommended to grab a few bundles of firewood in town. Easiest places to get firewood is the 7-11 or Food4Less on the corner of HWY 62 and Old Woman Springs Rd.

The SpaceThe Love Shack is a small cozy cabin (approx. 10x12) located in a true Desert Oasis known as Rimrock. Rimrock is a unique area bordering Pioneertown, CA. We are located, above Yucca Valley and at the base of Big Bear. Because we are 4,600 feet above sea level (just at the snow line), the summers are 10-15 degrees cooler than nearby Joshua Tree and 15-20 degrees cooler than Palm Springs. In addition the trees on our property provide lots of shade, cool breezes and the tranquil sounds of birds. The cabin itself has a rustic feel with all the comforts of home. Don't forget to make a reservation at Pappy and Harriet's (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) p(URL HIDDEN) The Love Shack includes: Full size bed, mini refrigerator, coffee maker/coffee/tea, microwave and cable TV. There is a private detached bathroom (steps away from the cabin) with an outside shower. Towels, soap, shampoo, hair dryer provided. You will find sweatshirts, hats, games, sunblock, mini travel iron/board, water, BBQ with charcoal, fire pit with wood, dishes, utensils, extra blankets and a First Aid Kit. We are typically booked but we can provide other accommodations either at our other location (Maglietto's Star Gazer) or a Vintage Trailer located on our property. For more information on the Trailer, please email. The Star Gazer is listed on Airbnb. The Star Gazer has a different feel, i.e it's a wide open space with beautiful views! It is located across the street from a funky western town and steps away from Pappy and Harriet's. Guest AccessPrivate detached Cabin and Bathroom. The Bathroom is steps away from the cabin with an outside shower for Love Shack Guests only. Feel free to roam around our property. Interaction with GuestsAlthough we reside on the property, we typically keep to ourselves and respect the confidentiality and privacy of our guests. However, we are friendly and enjoy socializing. The Love Shack Cabin is SELF Check-in. We encourage you to reach out anytime of the day or night. We are usually home, however in the event you arrive and there is no one to greet you, we will let you know and make sure you have all instructions/directions, etc. The NeighborhoodRimrock is a small community approx. 5 miles West of Pioneertown, CA. Pi Town, as it is often referred, started as a live-in Old West motion picture set, built in the 1940s. Pi Town is the home of the famous Pappy & Harriet's Saloon. It is easily accessed via Pioneertown Road at California State Route 62 in the town of Yucca Valley. The gently winding, four-mile (6 km) drive northwest to Pioneer town has been designated a California Scenic Drive. The town started as a live-in Old West motion-picture set, built in the 1940s. The set was designed to provide a place for the actors to live while using their homes in the movie. A number of Westerns and early television shows were filmed in Pioneertown, including The Cisco Kid and Edgar Buchanan's Judge Roy Bean. Roy Rogers, Dick Curtis, and Russell Hayden were among the original developers and investors, and Gene Autry frequently taped his show at the six-lane Pioneer Bowl bowling alley. Getting AroundFour wheel is ideal if you plan to do some off road exploring. We are located at the base of the back road to Big Bear Lake. Complimentary ride to and from Pappy and Harriet's (anytime). Other Things to NotePrior to your stay, you may want to print the following links for some suggestions and ideas of what to do during your stay: Guidebook: https://www.airbnb.com/manage-listing/3650457/guidebook Off Highway website: (URL HIDDEN) Welcome to our special cabin. A few things to note: Complimentary water will be provided upon arrival. Mobile service is intermittent - AT&T seems to work best. We have wifi, however it is slow. Pappy and Harriet's and Ma Rouge have free wireless. Things to bring: light jacket, sweater/sweatshirt, sunscreen, lip balm, hat, comfortable shoes (hiking shoes/flip flops). The High Desert is a very casual place and the weather can be unpredictable, therefore I recommend dressing in layers as well as comfortable, light clothing, i.e. linen, jeans, flip flops, tee shirts, tank tops, sun dresses, etc.

The SpaceOur family home is a comfortable and eclectically designed, desert-lover's paradise with a 360 degree panorama of mountains and rock formations. Guest AccessWe offer our main house at limited times throughout the year. The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed, our daughter's room has a full-sized bed and there is an extra-long vintage couch in the great room for napping or a 5th guest. You will have access to our kitchen which will be stocked with the essentials (mineral-rich drinking water from the well, coffee & tea) as well as some healthy snacks and epicurean treats. Feel free to cook while you're here. We also have an outdoor, shaded communal dining area with an outdoor kitchen. There is a small indoor bathroom with sink, toilet, shower & bathtub. Or enjoy the outdoor shower while gazing at the mountain view or the stars. While you're here, feel free to roam the 1.25 acre property and take advantage of the sitting spaces and small gardens scattered about. Each has its perfect time of day to be enjoyed; sunrise, midday, sunset and stargazing. You will quickly learn to seek shade in the heat of the day and to enjoy patches of sunlight when it is chilly or windy. Interaction with GuestsWhile renting the family house, we (the family: Karen, Chris and our 4yr old) stay in one of the campsites and will be available on the premises during your stay. We also have an older black lab on the property who will bark to announce your arrival, but is sweet once she realizes you know how to throw a stick or ball. We'd love to briefly visit with you during your stay, but are more than happy to make ourselves scarce if it is sweet solitude you seek. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is home to an astonishing number of artists and musicians, homesteaders, off-the-gridders, beekeepers and poets, potters and painters enjoying the indoor/outdoor life in myriad ways. Enjoy fresh eggs in the morning, local honey in your coffee, a long, silent walk at dawn through the wild desert. Getting AroundOur home is 5 miles north (on paved road) of legendary Pappy & Harriet's in the heart of quirky, wonderful Pioneertown. They are open for dinner Thursday through Monday, lunch most days, live music every single night. We are also a short walk from the infamous Rimrock Ranch, an incredible venue for weddings and celebrations. Pioneertown also has a post office and several unique and interesting shops. You find local art, pottery and leather, used books, occasional outdoor concerts and movies. The Pioneertown Mountains Preserve is just to the south of us; this private wildlife sanctuary is 45,000 acres of bliss for the hikers, rock-climbers, photographers... the naturalists, wanderers and seekers among us. We'll share some our favorite paths with you on the remote, less-visited side of the park. Next door to their ranger station is a trailhead for the newly reopened Chaparosa Peak loop trail. Provisions are a scenic 9 miles away in Yucca Valley; several grocery stores, antiques & gifts, health food, gas stations. If you're driving: 120 miles from Los Angeles 18 miles from the Integratron and Giant Rock in Landers, CA 30 minutes from Joshua Tree (the town) and main entrance & visitor center to the National Park If you're walking: .85 miles to daybreak mesa 1.2 miles to council rocks (the northernmost point of a rock formation eden to the south of us) 2.8 miles to the green spot (a lush riparian corridor in the fork of a nearby canyon) We've cultivated a 2.5 mile easy loop trail with fairly minimal altitude gain as well as a 3.5 mile loop trail with some altitude gain and several points of interest including the green spot and the rock gardens. Provisions & topo maps available. Guided hikes upon request. Other Things to NoteWe love our property and hope this love shines through during your stay here. We call our property Temenos from the ancient greek word which means 'a piece of land cut off from common usage and dedicated as a natural sanctuary.' The atmosphere we try to maintain here is one of quiet contemplation and reverence for nature apart from the everyday hustle and bustle of emails and cellphones (though wifi and extremely limited cell service - AT&T only and barely at that - are available). Please respect the fact that we are in a rural neighborhood; people move out here for a quiet life, though their dogs can get to howling at the full moon and sometimes the desert-dwelling humans do too. Besides the main house where our family lives, there is a larger tipi and a restored vintage Spartan travel trailer also on the property, and communal spaces are shared by both the family and other guests. Finally, remember that this is the high desert - it can be a wild place! Weather can change quickly, windy conditions happen often, summers are hot during the day (and perfect at night), winter temperatures can drop below freezing at night and snow isn't unheard of (and it's absolutely beautiful). Our property backs up to raw desert where animals and insects rule. Keep this in mind and share in our stewardship of this unique ecosystem. We have lovely neighbors with hens (fresh eggs!) and a rooster (crows at every suitable moment). There are also barking dogs and howling coyotes in the neighborhood. And ancient footpaths leading through the boulder gardens and canyons in the preserve behind us. Windstorms and dust devils and serene sunrises and astonishing wildflowers. It is not the mildest of climates, but if you come prepared for the elements, the high Mojave Desert is truly an eden for those that love the outdoors. A great place to experience everything and nothing at the same time.

The SpaceThis is a 1000 Sq. foot modern house in a dramatic setting. It was a design prototype showcasing a unique metal canopy system, that once boasted canvas curtains closing off the house all the way around. It is very private w/its own driveway shared only by a similarly unique architectural house, whose owner lives out-of-state. The house boasts incredible 360 degree views as far as San Jacinto Mountain above Palm Springs. You will not find many other houses this dramatically located and uniquely decorated. Guest AccessThe whole House will be available. It sleeps 4 ppl comfortably. The Step-down Bedroom has a Queen size Bed & the upper Studio has a brand-new Queen size fold-out Couch. It is easily unfolded in one simple step. The layout is a Studio w/a separate Step-down Bedroom. However the Bedroom has no door, so just know privacy is limited somewhat until I get around installing a door btw the upper Studio & the Step-down Bedroom. There is currently no music system on hand, just a little radio. Interaction with GuestsI am available 24/7, should there be any problems. The NeighborhoodThere is plenty to do. Check out Pioneertown, roughly 15 mins drive. Specifically Pappi & Harriet's, a cherished, Bar/Music Venue/destination. Great food & the most unique atmosphere. You should also check out the Integratron in Landers, about 30 mins drive: totally whacko science project dating from the 50ies. Fabulous experience, but you need a reservation, unless you get lucky driving up. Also check out 29 Palms Inn in 29 Palms, a natural Oasis/Restaurant/Inn where the rat-pack used to stay that's very special also... otherwise eat @ MaRouge in Yucca Valley, especially b/fast & I love the authentic Thai Food @ Royal Siam Thai in Joshua Tree. Natural Sisters' Cafe in Joshua Tree just dwn the road from the Thai place is great for veggie fare, fresh shakes etc. The Joshua Tree Saloon is a fun local hang-out w/bands playing, karaoke nights and such. There is a locally flavored swap meet every Sat & Sun mornings in Yucca Valley bhd the Food4Less. Very cool. Lot's of thrifting everywhere as well... Getting AroundYou will need a car to get around. The house is about 1 mile off HWY 62 on a private road. Other Things to NoteThe house is not the kids-friendliest, due to being located on a steep rocky hill. There are many collectible artifacts exhibited in the house that are fragile. Rough play is not encouraged for that matter. Teens should enjoy exploring the setting. Campfires are generally not ok, due to the extreme fire danger in this dry & windy environment. Do not light a BBQ, in case you bring one, if it is windy, which is often, because it is a foothill/canyon setting. If you do plan to BBQ, please make sure to MONITOR that BBQ AT ALL TIMES, please, as even small sparks can spark a large fire!!
