The SpaceThe apartment has a queen sized bed, coffee maker (with coffee provided), plenty of pots, pans and utensils, and a new 39" HD TV with DIRECTV satellite service. The space is newly renovated with nine new windows, and new paint on the walls, ceilings, and floors. There are three, 5 foot long skylights on the slanted ceiling- one in the living room, one in the kitchen, and one in the bathroom. There are just about six acres of open field, which faces south/southwest, and a beautiful vegetable garden with stone terraces at both ends. We also built a Black Locust pergola at the south end of the garden, which sits atop a Goshen stone terrace (we just planted grapes, but they're still very short!). There is also a fire pit at one end of the garden, and an outdoor fireplace at the other end. There are flower gardens in several spots on the property. We are 100 yards from the public library, which, itself, has recently been upgraded in a major way. Our home also houses a one room post office (300 sq. feet), which is open from 12pm to 4pm, M-F, and 8:30am to 11:30am on Saturday. It's rarely busy... The NeighborhoodOur house is centered in Plainfield Historical district. Plainfield is a town of less than 600 people. Very nice walks and bike rides, right outside our front door! Other Things to NoteOUTDOOR ADVENTURES AND SKIING Plainfield Pond is minutes away- Goshen State Forest with beach and hiking is 15 minutes away. Crab Apple rafting and Zoar Outdoor are 25 minutes from us. Berkshire East Ski Area has downhill skiing, and summer outdoor activities. They are in Charlemont, Ma (20 min). Notchview State reservation has tremendous cross-country skiing and hiking trails, about 18 minutes away in Windsor, Ma. Stump Sprout also has tremendous cross-country skiing and snow shoeing . They are in Hawley, Ma, about 11 minutes away. We also have about six acres to ski and snow shoe on, here at the apartment… RESTAURANTS As for restaurants, the closest is the Ashfield Lakehouse (10 min) which is being renovated- I believe it's going to feature Italian food. The Gypsy Apple is in Shelburne Falls, and they are phenomenal, but it's small, you'll need reservations . The Blue Rock Restaurant is also in Shelburne Falls, and it too is an excellent place to dine ("new american cuisine", and great Margaritas). They are 20 min from us, 10 min from Charlemont. The Brewmaster tavern is in Williamsburg (20 min), and they have American food (the best turkey dinner around). The Old Creamery (7 min), is an excellent grocery store with excellent prepared food, and a great deli. That's probably your best all around bet. We often get food to go, and warm it in the oven, check out their website ((website hidden)). If you really want to venture out, go to Northampton- great restaurants, and lots of shopping, about 35 min away. ..Hope this helps! Peter

The SpaceThe lodge is an historic gathering place from the early 18oo's. It was always a place of support way back then according to the elders who stopped in to tell us the history. People would come for warmth when the church across the street was too cold, travelers found a warm safe rest on their journey along the early wagon trail that is now Route 9. The vintage metal bridge in the back yard carried many a horse drawn wagon, as well as sheep and other livestock for production. It's now a lovely footbridge, recently painted with flower boxes happily decorating the scenic view. Every season here is a treasure. Excellent wedding and ceremonial gathering space with capacity for 80 guests inside the lodge, outside events can handle up to 200. Guest AccessThe whole lodge is available for guest use, to enjoy the comfy wood stoves, sit in the sunroom downstairs, dress up in the costume area or play in the art and craft children area. The music space is open to use as well with careful consideration for the vast collection of world muscial instruments. On 44 acres of woodland, with a third of a mile of river frontage on the East Branch of the designated Wild and Scenic Westfield River, this log house offers a real opportunity to relax. A cathedral window overlooks the river and a deck to watch the humming birds completes the setting. The master bedroom upstairs has an en-suite bathroom and there is a minstrel gallery above the open plan living and dining area. Craftsmen used local hard woods for the hand built kitchen and breakfast bar and the floors. We built the property on a whim, but now discover that Cummington has everything. Northampton, Stockbridge, the Hancock Shaker Village, Tanglewood, the Clarke museum in Williamstown, the Mass MOCA and the Shopping Mall at Lee are readily accessible. The area has black bear, beavers and, occasionally, a moose on Main Street. There is a trailcam available for the use of guests who wish to explore the night life (which includes racoon, deer, fox, and other surprise visitors). The adjacent land is a Massachussets Wildlife Management Area and the State also stocks the river. We do not have TV but the local Bryant Library stocks a selection of DVDs and good books. NPR and WiFi are available, The adjacent garage has an efficiency apartment overhead, occupied by an unobtrusive couple who overseee bed linen, cleaning and other guest needs. A welcome pack to your specification will be provided. They will also cater if required. Google Earth shows at Lat:42.493142 Lon: -72.973293, but I cannot promise that the island to the left will not have been further excavated by the beavers - on the other hand they may have created an excellent swimming hole! I am afraid that, however short your intended visit, the need to complete administrative formalities usually requires at least two weeks notice if you wish to rent the house. Keywords: House

SUMMER AVAILABILITY! We have weekend and week-long availability in July and August. Book a vacation now for the glorious Berkshire summertime! A hike into rolling rocky hillside groves cut with sparkling ravine streams and waterfalls. A cozy corner to curl into with a book and mug of tea. A steaming hot tub to soak in. Local cross-country ski trails. A bowl of perfectly spiced soup. A placid pond to take an afternoon dip in. Yes, all this and more. Nine Mountain Retreats is a transformational retreat center, nestled into the Hilltowns of Western Massachusetts. We host group retreats and workshops year-round. People from around the world come to Nine Mountain to explore how to live with a greater sense of belonging and integrity in connection to self, community and the Earth. This space is held as a home to all to who come to be in the woods, supported by the strength of the stone walls, cradled by the canopies of the maples, birches, beeches and pines, cleansed by the gentle babbling flows of the streams and engaged by the activating winds off the hilltops. The ease and natural abundance of this land will support you in taking the bounty back to your own home and life. And, Nine Mountain is also a magical vacation rental! Our hand-built post-and-beam house is spacious, sunny and deeply peaceful, but also ready for play. We have six guest rooms in total; three private rooms and three dorm rooms. The private rooms each have a double (1) or queen (2) sized bed. One private room has a loft with a second double mattress. The dorm rooms each have handmade wooden bunk beds with five or six beds, sized for adults. We have three bathrooms (one per floor), two large bathtubs and an outdoor hot tub and shower. Endless opportunities for hide and seek. We offer full-service catering on site to our group retreats, with locally sourced and organic food. Though this isn't usual for vacation rentals, full-service catering (or a few special meals here and there) can be arranged upon request. Our Head Chef is Moroccan, and can prepare any menu requested. Guests are welcome to enjoy our 150+ acres of wilderness and hiking trails, as well as our modest selection of outdoor equipment, games, puzzles and books. The house has wifi. Nearby attractions include Notchview crosscountry skiing, Zoar Outdoor whitewater rafting and Berkshire East downhill skiing. In the other direction, MassMOCA Museum of Contemporary Art.
