Long hidden behind a row of cedars & at the end of a dead end road, Juniper Lane Cottage is ideally located just North of Des Moines, (on the West side of Ankeny), adjacent to Saylorville Lake with bike trails, beach, marina, camping, trekking, picnicking all literally steps away. Part suburban (kids, dogs, mowers & construction can be heard), and part private oak savannah, all this in a beautiful woodsy setting surrounding a charming, cozy, newly renovated 600 SF cottage built in 1935. ‘Storybook’ by all accounts.
Downtown Des Moines and the tony Jordan Creek area are just 20 minutes away. Iowa State University is 25 minutes to the North and Des Moines Area Community College is just minutes away. Both I-35 and I-80 are equally accessible minutes away.
The cottage consists of four rooms on the main floor LR, BR, galley kitchen & 3 piece bath. The LR is sizable with a lounge sofa, rocker, gas FP, bistro table for dining, window seat tucked into cozy corner window. The BR is a very bright and open room w/a Select Comfort Sleep Number (P5) queen bed on an adjustable base, double hung closets, large dresser. The kitchen is a fully equipped galley style kitchen.w/gas range, refrig., micro, toaster oven, coffee pot, with all necessary pots/pans/plates/glasses etc.; 1 bath w/shower, linens and hair dryer provided. We are on our own well & septic systems. Also available are an ironing board, iron, clock radio, CD player, vacuum, flash lights, space heater and fan. Ample quality bedding, & electric blanket for cooler weather stays. The property comes equipped w/ cabled HDTVs in LR, BR & office, WiFi, Starz & Netflix.
Contact host: For guests doing business travel and needing some work space, a home office is available in the half story. The room consists of a long desk, chair, file drawer space, book shelves, lots of drawers and two beds and a small closet. A dormer window with the best ‘book reading’ spot on the property. There is ample space for computers, printers, cable hook-ups and room for supplies. Additional charges may apply.

A detached two car garage offers guests covered parking for one car, a secure storage area for bulky items or bikes and additional parking is available off the drive. Large wrap around patio with views into woods, gas grill, hammock, picnic table, lounge chairs, outdoor fire pit area w/ lots of fire wood.
Critters abound. The property is a Certified Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation. The lake draws eagles, pelicans, osprey, all manner of geese and our back woods have been home to nesting Barred owls the past few summers. We even have minks (descendants from escapees from a neighboring, now closed mink farm) terrorizing the nesting birds and bunnies. The grounds have been beautifully laid out with shady plantings and landing spots are throughout.
Recreation: This location offers connectivity to numerous biking options. Cycle out the drive due West & connect to trails all around Saylorville which connects South to ride into downtown Des Moines or North to Big Creek State Park. Cycle from drive going due North & connect to High Trestle Trail to Madrid or go East to Ankeny trails network.
Year round recreation, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling during snowy winter weather.

It's the place everyone seems to want to go escape the pressures and the frantic pace of everyday life.

When you find yourself breathing a little deeper because the air seems purer somehow.....
When you notice that the sky is bluer, the pines are taller and the people smile a lot more.....
