The NeighborhoodAlthough the Retreat is secluded and quiet, there are well maintained roads allowing guests to reach an assortment of activities with only short drives. The wineries of El Dorado & Amador Counties are small, usually family owned and produce delicious reds, whites, roses & sparkling varietals. Visitors are greeted with enthusiasm; friendly vintners at the ready to answer all questions & to proudly serve guests free tastings. (Lil will happily share her extensive knowledge of both wineries & the wines she recommends. Many are listed in our Binder "What to Do; Where to Go" found in the house. If you have additional questions, please, email Judith and she'll ask Lil!) Summer months provide opportunities for water fun that include rafting on the American or Cosumnes Rivers, rope swinging from the rocks into hidden swimming holes along the Cosumnes, swimming/fishing/picnicking/hiking at Jenkinson or Loon Lakes, Union Valley or Ice House Reservoirs. Late summer & fall brings opportunities for picking berries or other fruits at one of the many U-Pick Farms along Hwy 50. Added to that are the pleasures of apple picking & celebrating the many baked, canned & dried apples on Apple Hill in Camino. Hiking the trails along the lakes and rivers, visiting historical sites relate to the Gold Rush, searching for treasures in the antique stores of historic Placerville (aka - formerly - Old Hang Town), eating at quality restaurants, even visiting Red Hawk, a recently opened casino in the area. There are more activities to experience than time in which to do them! Getting AroundGuests will need their own transportation. Wine tours can be arranged using a car & driver (if tasting is a serious avocation). Information is listed on line & in our Binder. Other Things to NoteJudith & Lil have pets & want their home to remain available to guests who want to share their holidays with their own pets (dogs only - max. of 2). The SpaceDon't miss staying at this warm and inviting luxury cedar cabin in the forest --it is also two separate homes in one. This luxury cabin is located near Jenkinson Lake in Pollock Pines, CA (about half way between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe). At the lake you can go boating (bring your own or there are canoes, pedal boats, row boats, and kayaks for rent). Visit the museum, go hiking along one of the many trails, go horseback riding (many equestrian trails), bicycle along one of the many trails, go on a picnic, or go fishing. The nearby rivers also offer great opportunities for White Water rafting. This cabin has 5 tree-filled acres that are usable, walkable, and has play sets for kids and a year round stream right on the property providing beautiful sounds of water. The cabin is set back from the street and the forested property provides privacy and a feeling like you are camping in the forest but with all of the luxuries of home. Take a walk through the forest on this property and have a picnic at the picnic table by the private stream. Each floor of this cabin is set up as its own separate home but they are connected by interior stairs. This cabin has two master suites (each with its own bathroom), 3 full bathrooms - one with a Jacuzzi tub, two separate and full kitchens, two family rooms, two washers and dryers, a large dining room and a game room. Many farms have Bake shops, pony rides, and various other activities. Don’t miss stopping at the Fudge Factory! Apple Hill also provides tasting rooms with award winning wines. Apple Hill is one of the two appellations within El Dorado County. The other is located south of Pollock pines in scenic Fair Play – all within 3 miles of each other. A map with the Farm trails and wineries will be provided. If you are looking for a great game of golf you can play at a truly championship golf course offering breathtaking views of nature. Or take a visit to Historic Placerville for Antique shopping or boutique hopping. Many restaurants and shops can be enjoyed. You may want to take a day trip up to South Lake Tahoe. This drive is only about 45 miles and will provide for lots of entertainment and gambling opportunities. In the winter months you will have plenty of opportunity for skiing at one of the local ski resorts. Sierra-at-Tahoe is only about 30 miles down Hwy 50 from this vacation home. Many others are located between Pollock Pines and South Lake Tahoe. You can also go sledding at Adventure Mountain. It is also about 30 minutes down HWY 50 and is only about $15 per car! We have been renting out this cabin for several years and most guests come back for repeat visits because they love it here. The Space***Caution: During the Winter Months of December - April this lodge is for only the very hearty and rugged. We heat the lodge with wood heat, if there is no fire in the stove, the lodge can be quite cold. Too cold for most city dwellers. We think it's not too bad, but we live up here year round.*** This room is about 10' X 12', it is small but cozy. Our lodge is for rugged individuals, people looking for a great deal, and people who like to support a dream. We think the world is getting too pricey, and we wanted to be able to create a space that didn't consume all of your money. You work hard for it, why should you give it all to us??? Our lodge is very, very earthy. In fact, the rooms are on the "under the earth" level of the house. The building was built in the 1940s and shows all the signs of age. We love it!! The rooms are on the wine cellar level and it can be dusty and a little cavish for some. Others find it very pleasant. It stays nice and cool in the summer and with our new wood stove, the winters should be nice and comfy. The sound proofing is still in the works, so if we have more than one guest during your stay, you might hear them. Previous guests have complained about the footfalls and doors closing from the level above. That might happen to you, the insulation in the building is old. Again, our aim here is not to offer you the Taj Mahal, but to offer you a simple, humble room. We also have cats, Ashes and Fluffers. They are pretty mellow, and outdoorsy cats. They never go into the private rooms, but do play in the common areas at times. We are more than happy to put them out if your dog is very interested in chasing and barking at (URL HIDDEN) problem at all. Although, If you are very allergic they can be a drag. We want you to have your best airbnb adventure, so know thyself, and chose your accommodation wisely! REMEMBER WHAT YOU'VE READ HERE, WE'VE WARNED YOU. OUR PLACE CAN BE COLD, LOUD, WE HAVE PETS, THIS PLACE IS ONLY FOR THE ROUGH AND READY TYPE THAT DO NOT MIND SOME DUST AND SPIDERS!! We have had some guests that did not read our cautions thoroughly and were not comfortable with the level of "natural environment" that we let in. We do not spray pesticides around our lodge for obvious environmental reasons, so if you do not like the natural critters of the forest, turn back NOW!!! rather than leave us a scathing review because you didn't take us seriously here. Other than that: Our location is one hour East of Sacramento, one hour west of Lake Tahoe, 15 minutes east of Placerville, and about 5 -10 minutes from Jenkinson Lake. We are in a mountain town in the Pines called Pollock Pines. The main road that goes through town and on which we are located is the Pony Express Trail. Yes, it really is the original Pony Express Trail. We are surrounded by national forest hiking trails, snowshoe trails, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, river rafting, kayaking, SUP Boarding, with yoga and massage in house. Our lodge actually has three rooms. Two small rooms and one family room that sleeps 3-5 people. None of the rooms have windows as the rooms are on the partially-subterranean (basement) level of our lodge. The common room has Mexican tile throughout and feels a little like a wine cellar. There is a full length bar that is not stocked or even ready for use, but is a unique feature and may come as a surprise to guests. There is much work to be done in our lodge, painting, upgrading trim, lighting, remodeling the kitchen, etc. We will update pics as we go along so everyone gets a better image of what we have to offer. *A caution: Some people are not comfortable with our space as it is in remodel phase. We do have wood and tools in the Kitchen and common rooms as we are fixing the place up as we go. Not everyone is comfortable with this. If you are looking for a place all fixed up and ready to go, you will be disappointed. We encourage you to find another accommodation that is more comfortable for you. Our slogan: We're not 5 Star, but we're better than your car! Wifi, a full kitchen, an upstairs restaurant(coming soon), yoga studio, and massage studio (massages are $20.00 for one hour for our overnight guests), lakes, rivers, hiking trails! We are glad to host you and look forward to meeting you! We are in a quiet town at 4000', the whole length is 3mi. We are close to the wonderful apple orchard community of Camino, Ca with harvest events and amazing apple pies. Just up the road are quaint mountain villages with river access to the beautiful American River. Guest AccessKitchen, Bathroom, Yoga Studio, $20 hourly massage, fire pit, sun decks, hammock for chillin'! You are also welcome to enjoy your meals sitting in the cafe or on the side deck at on of our outdoor tables. The cafe is not yet open, but you are welcome to eat your meals in these spaces! Interaction with GuestsA little, we work Monday through Friday, but are available on the weekends! The NeighborhoodIt is a small quiet town of hard working people. We are right up the road from Apple Hill and a little farther up the highway is the wonderful El Dorado National Forest and The American River! Getting AroundThe El Dorado County Transit stops right outside our door! This is a very friendly bicycling town with Camino right down the road. Roads are fine, and are cleared right away in the winter during snow. Other Things to NoteAll rooms are interior rooms, so none of them have windows. Sound travels in our space. We are working on the sound proofing, but it will take some time. If you are a light sleeper, you will need ear plugs or choose another accommodation. You will be responsible for starting and tending the wood stove if you want a fire. It is very easy, and we do ususally keep a fire going in the winter, although you might have to throw a log on the fire to keep it going. We appreciate everyone helping out with this because it adds to the feeling of a caring, helping community for our lodge! Also, you will be responsible for keeping the shared spaces tidy. Wash your dishes, empty the trash, rinse out the bathroom sink, etc. especially if you stay for longer than a week. We do keep up on the cleaning, but it's nice for everyone to clean up after themselves since this is a very shared space. When you get here drive around to the back of the lodge via our side drive on the East end of the building. Parking is along the east side of the back lot. Enter through the back double French doors, The kitchen is to your immediate right, the bathroom is within the kitchen. Your room is through the door next to the Mandala. Your name is on the door! Make yourself at home! Lisa

Nearby is the very popular Sly Park Recreation Area with the beautiful Jenkinson Lake. It has 645 acres of surface water and great fishing opportunities. The lake has a boat launch and a boat rental facility. (Kayaks, canoes, pedal boats and row boats) Of course if you want to bring your own boat, we have plenty of parking. Swimming and water skiing are allowed, but personal water crafts are not. In the winter, you may go snow shoeing, sledding or just play in the snow. It's just a spectacular setting for many outdoor activities! For the Apple Hill (Camino) lovers, we are less than ten miles from this special area! In April there is the Apple Blossom Festival. In the summer is the cherry and berry harvest. In the fall months, the traditional harvest season is in full swing. You can enjoy the cornucopia of fruits, ciders, vegetables, wines, baked goods and homemade preserves. Of course in winter, you can start your own family traditions as you cut down your own Christmas tree and enjoy the magic in the air! Oh I forgot, you may want to visit a local winery and bring some back to enjoy! Do you love snow skiing? Then you'll be glad to hear that we're about 35 miles from Sierra at Tahoe or about 50 miles from Heavenly Mountain Resort. The SpaceOur family room has a nice wood floor, a door that opens right to the kitchen and is right next to the bath. It has a second door that opens to the living room. It offers a queen bed, a full futon, a single cot, and a mini crib. We provide towels, soaps, all linens, a continental breakfast w/ eggs, coffee, and tea. Some Cautions: From November-April we are in our cold weather months. The lodge can be a bit chilly for some. We heat the lodge with a wood burning stove. We do ask the guests to share in the fire tending duties. We will show you how! This year we will be outfitting all our beds with heated mattress covers, so in the bed you should be nice and snug! We have cats! If you are allergic, this could be a problem. They are not allowed in the guest rooms, but they do come into the common spaces. The lodge is not very sound proofed. We are still working on insulating all the walls. So sound travels and you can hear your fellow guests through the walls. We just try and keep as quiet as we can, within reason. Most people are fine with it. And again, this is a rugged type place. While we have luxuries like a 55" tv w/ HBO, we also have dust, mountain insects, and our lodge is a work in progress. Guest AccessAll guests have access to Full Kitchen, Yoga Studio, Café, Outdoor Deck Dining and relaxing, Fire Pit, Hammock, Yard in general, Front Porch chairs Pretty much make the lodge your home! Interaction with GuestsWe will be on hand, although we work and go to school during the week and sometimes on the weekend. The NeighborhoodWe are a quiet, hardworking town at 4000' elevation. It is a great spot for chilling by the river, having a picnic, or even floating around. Getting AroundIf you do not have a car, and need to catch a bus, there is the public transit system that stops right outside our door. Other Things to NoteThere are no windows in any of our rooms. Dad wants to go fishing and mom wants a massage ? Make arrangements in advance. Guest AccessI'll let you know what the key code is before your check in. Don't miss staying at this warm and inviting luxury cedar cabin in the forest that was remodeled in 2010 - it is also two separate but attached homes in one (you get both for the one quoted price). Most cabins in Pollock Pines are on a steep hillside and close to the road - but not this cabin. It is set back on 5 tree-filled acres that are usable, walkable, and has play sets for kids and a year round fresh water stream right on the property - providing a romantic place to sit by the stream, a place for kids to explore, and beautiful sounds of water (most other cabins can only hear the water but this property has the stream running on the property). Each floor of this cabin is set up as its own separate home but they are connected by interior stairs. This cabin has two master suites (each with its own bathroom), 3 full bathrooms - one with a Jacuzzi tub, two separate and full kitchens, two family rooms, two washers and dryers, a large dining room and a gameroom. There is a lot of privacy for a large group or just spread out and enjoy the space if you are a small group. You will not be stuck in the cabin all day like in other cabins that have a steep property. Since the cabin is set back from the street, the forested property provides privacy and a feeling like you are camping in the forest but with all of the luxuries of home. Take a walk through the forest on this property and have a picnic at the picnic table by the private stream. Even though you are tucked away in the trees, this cabin is in an established neighborhood and is close to all amenities - including the Lake and two private neighborhood swimming pools, tennis courts and a playground (including a swing set, horseshoes, pool table, and ping pong). The cabin also has its own horse shoes, pool table, ping pong table, games, and swing set - all within full sized warm cedar walls. You don't have to bend down to stand up or walk like in A-framed cabins. If you really want to feel refreshed from a vacation then you have found the right place. You won't have neighbors watching your every move. You will have room to run and play and simply refresh your senses. This Luxury Cabin was updated in 2010 and has stainless steel appliances, granite tile counters, custom tile in both master bathrooms, Hi-Speed satellite internet, Premium TV channels - all within warm cedar lined walls. Only the best. There is something magical about this cabin that keeps people coming back. Sit inside by the fire at night, lay on the large balcony under the trees during the day and sit by the private year round stream or go out on a different adventure everyday. Close to boating, water and snow skiing, wine tasting, historic gold mining towns, Apple Hill, the new Red Hawk Casino, and so much more: This luxury cabin is located near Jenkinson Lake in Pollock Pines. You may catch trout, small mouth bass, or blue gill. The nearby rivers also offer great opportunities for White Water rafting. And don't forget the neighborhood also offers 2 pools, tennis courts and playgrounds (pool open in the summer from Memorial day to Labor day). Other activities include panning for gold in the original location where gold was discovered resulting in the 1849 gold rush. Or head to Apple Hill where you can visit one of the many ranches along the Farm Trails offering sweet corn, vine ripe tomatoes, fresh green beans, chestnuts, pumpkins, and colorful bouquets and much more (type of harvest available depends on the season during your stay). Welcome to The Jade Retreat, a warm, comfortable home in the Sierra Foothills near Placerville. Enjoy a relaxing holiday amidst oak, cedar & pine trees. Only one other home is visible from the Retreat or deck though the Retreat is located within easy driving to all necessary services (Safeway, CVS, USPS, bank, garage/service station & several good restaurants). The Retreat is a double A frame home of 1800 sq. ft., with 3 bedrooms (Master Bedroom upstairs, 2nd & 3rd bedrooms are on main level). There is a cozy loft upstairs with a large TV & sofa bed (double). It looks out large windows into open forest area. The bedrooms, loft & stairs are carpeted. There are three entries, each tiled with Mexican quarry tile. The downstairs bathroom floor is tiled; the master bathroom (upstairs) has bamboo flooring. The halls, living room, dining area & kitchen have oak floors. Both the full bathrooms are senior-friendly. The living room/dining room (with a Norwegian Jotul gas fireplace) is located off an open style gourmet kitchen ready to inspire any chef or relax those wanting to reduce their meal preparation time. The kitchen has a new gas range & oven, new refrigerator with ice maker, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, waffle iron, mixer, blender, garbage disposal & is fully equipped with cooking & eating dishes & utensils. A walk-in pantry contains basic staples available for guests to use. (Hosts request that guests using last of any product leave the empty storage containers on the kitchen island so we know what needs replacing.) There is a small work area off the kitchen equipped with a built-in granite topped desk, leather desk chair, high-speed router & wireless printer (BYO computer/phone/supplies). The large master bedroom on the second level has a queen sized bed and ceiling fan. One downstairs bedroom has a queen sized bed; the other, twin beds. Each downstairs bedroom have screened windows that open as well as room fans. Both the master & downstairs bathrooms are newly renovated with tiled walk-in tub size showers, grab bars & seats as well as ergonomically designed Toto toilets. Each has a hair dryer. The Retreat has 3 TVs: in the loft (with Roku/Netflix streaming & DVD player); in the twin bedroom (with DVD player) & in the kitchen (so the cooks can watch, too). 1800 sq. ft. of cantilevered wood decking surrounds the home, looking out into forested land. Enjoy sitting at our 10 ft. long custom pine table to eat or enjoy relaxing there while watching the occasional deer, wild turkeys, squirrels & many variety of birds. (Guests will find bird seed to stock the feeders in a closet off the main entry door.) Enjoy making BBQ on the Weber located near the pine table (with supplies in a deck closet nearby). All bed, bath & kitchen linens are provided. The neighborhood offers two community swimming pools (solar heated/ open during summer months/requiring a pass key), a tennis court (BYO equipment), shuffleboard court (ditto), disk golf (ditto), communal picnic area with BBQ grills & walking trails through the forest beginning outside the back gate to our deck. Although the Retreat is secluded and quiet, there are well maintained roads allowing guests to reach an assortment of activities with only short drives. The wineries of El Dorado & Amador Counties are small, usually family owned, producing delicious reds, whites, roses & sparkling varietals. (One even offers a delicious champagne produced in France but sold under their label: Charles Mitchell Winery.) Visitors are greeted with enthusiasm, friendly vintners ready to answer all questions & proud to serve guests free tastings. (Co-host, Lillian, will happily share her extensive knowledge of both wineries & the wines she recommends. Just ask!) Summer months provide opportunities for water fun that can include rafting on the American or Cosumnes Rivers, rope swinging from the rocks into hidden swimming holes along the Cosumnes, swimming/fishing/picnicking/hiking at Jenkinson or Loon Lakes, Union Valley or Ice House Reservoirs. Some visitors enjoy panning for gold (Especially as they generally find bits!)! El Dorado County remains one of the best places to do that. Experienced gold panniers all have their favorite spots, but two generally acknowledged as excellent are Pi Pi campground and Cache Rock. Late summer & fall brings opportunities for picking berries or other fruits at one of the many U-Pick Farms along Hwy 50. Added to that are the pleasures of apple picking & celebrating the many baked, canned & dried apples on Apple Hill in Camino during their Apple Festival. Hiking the trails along the lakes and rivers, visiting historical sites relating to the Gold Rush, searching for treasures in the antique stores of historic Placerville (aka - formerly - Old Hang Town), eating at quality restaurants, even visiting Red Hawk, a recently opened casino in the area. There are more activities to experience than time in which to do them! Winter months allow skiing (cross country & down hill), snow boarding, all within less than an hour's drive from The Jade Retreat. Weather during the winter can vary greatly at our elevation (4100 ft.) so guests are cautioned to check weather reports before coming and to always carry chains if their car is not 4-wheel drive ('all-wheel' drive cannot be relied upon in the hills). Guests will need their own transportation. Wine tours can be arranged using a car & driver (if tasting is a serious avocation). We maintain a "Where to Go/What to Do" binder for those who prefer to read paper rather than digital search sites. The Retreat hosts have pets & want their home to be available to guests who want to share their holidays with their own dogs. However, as pet people, we know accidents can happen and so there is a separate Pet Security Deposit ($100./nonrefundable) and an expectation that only well trained pets will be included as guests. A maximum of two dogs allowed. The Retreat has a monitored security system which is easy to understand and important to use. Upon completion of the reservation process, details will be provided (by email, a week before rental period begins). This is our family home so it is available for a MAXIMUM OF TWO WEEKS on any visit. We assume guests will be respectful while staying here. We are a non-smoking family, though (using caution) smoking on the deck is permitted WHEN THE COUNTY HAS NOT ISSUED A FIRE ALERT WARNING. We live in a forest and that requires smokers to use ash trays and to be vigilant about lighted cigarettes & hot ash! (Our home is not stocked with ash trays.) Other than that, 'House Rules' are to relax and enjoy yourselves!

The SpaceLocated on a green belt that is a forest, this home is conveniently located only 5 minutes from US 50. This is very helpful during the snowy weather because it is on one of the first streets to be plowed, making access convenient. It has ample parking at street level without a steep driveway like so many homes in our area. While there are homes to each side, the view from most rooms is our beautiful forest with abundant wildlife. Guest AccessOur guests will have access to the entire property. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is a community area that is safe and quiet. The homes are all custom but the area is part of an association which keeps it looking well maintained. There are noise regulations in this area. Getting AroundBecause of the location of Wicker Moose Manor, the street is typically plowed very quickly when it has been snowing. There is a large and well maintained Safeway and CVS just 5 minutes away. There is not much public transportation available in this area, so a vehicle is needed. Chains are usually required after it snows unless you have all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive.
