Get away from the busyness of downtown Washington, and enjoy the peace of this lodge overlooking a rolling pasture of horses grazing by the fish-filled pond. The 3-story house includes 4 bedrooms, 3 and a half baths with jacuzzi's in each one, an elegant dining room, 2 full kitchens, a spa room with massage table and infrared sauna, a scenic greatroom with a 30 foot fireplace. The library on the 3rd floor opens to the Great Room on the 2nd level with a huge expanse of windows showing the magnificent scenery. Choose from hundreds of books, and go down to read in front of the great room 30-foot fireplace, or by the wood stove. Bring your computer and enjoy wireless access. For exercise, we have exerstrider poles, rebounders (small mini trampolines), and yoga mats with videos to follow along in the exercise room. Or you may choose to fish in the well-stocked pond, or take horseback riding lessons from our on-site trainers! FOR GOLFER'S: Raspberry Falls Golf and Hunt Club was a very well maintained club and part of the experience is traveling to the course and crossing on White's Ferry, it is like going back in time. The course is only 8 1/2 miles from the home. The P.B. Dye Club is another great course and very challenging. In typical P.B. Dye fashion there are plenty of railroad ties that you can bounce your ball off on a bad shot. This is 15 miles from the house but seems closer, as it a nice country drive. Whiskey Creek Golf club is about 15 miles from the house. It is very, very nice. Very well maintained with a lot of elevation changes There is also easy access to hiking, canoeing, polo matches, winery tours, antiquing, biking or trail riding either your own or a rented horse, and public golf. Keywords: golf, horseback riding, hiking, polo, wineries, canoeing, fishing Guest AccessTotal house Interaction with GuestsI work closely with the guests helping them to plan their trip and activities when there. The NeighborhoodThere are many things to do in the area. HIKING: You will be staying just 5 miles away from Sugarloaf Mountain, in Comus, Maryland. It has wonderful hiking trails in a very scenic atmosphere. It has it's own website: (URL HIDDEN) which also has a trail map. At the base of the mountain which you will drive by to get there is Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard ((URL HIDDEN) It gets varied reviews but is fun for a short visit if you want to enjoy a bottle of wine. Scenery around it is beautiful, but sitting area is marginal. HORSEBACK RIDING: Right on the farm! You can take english riding lessons on beautiful horses. Advance arrangements need to be made with our trainers: Eduardo Gutierrez (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) Or Jeff Beck(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) SHOOTING: There is a great range 22 miles away, over the White's Ferry, called the Silver Eagle Group ((URL HIDDEN) It caters to groups, parties or individuals. Even bachelor parties. I recommend it highly. PAINTBALL: There is Hogback Mountain Paintball in Leesburg, VA, again over the White's Ferry, but only 18 miles from the house, and it looks like a lot of fun. It's website is: (URL HIDDEN) It offers private events, parties, etc, or you can just join in with the rest of the guests. FISHING: the first fishing spot I can offer is my own back yard. We have a large pond with many types of fish, and a wharf to stand on while fishing. You don't have to have a Maryland State fishing license to fish there....! But apparently at other places, you do. A great place is the Seneca Landing Boat Ramp, 13300 Riley’s Lock Rd in Poolesville. That is also excellent for kayak rental. As well as at White's Ferry. GOLFING: (URL HIDDEN) (look up Poolesville course on their site.) (URL HIDDEN) (Germantown, MD) (URL HIDDEN) (Leesburg, VA) (URL HIDDEN) (Leesburg, VA) CANOEING: (URL HIDDEN) (This is a great site to visit. They don't mention it, but they also rent canoes and put it in the Potomac for you wherever you want it done. I recommend it a little north of the ferry.) WHITE WATER RAFTING: (URL HIDDEN) (Harper's Ferry is a wonderful place to visit. It has the white water rafting, tubing, zip lining and antiquing, and lots of civil war history, as John Brown lived there. Great place to spend all day.) (URL HIDDEN) (Where all the above sporting activities are best done.) This colonial oak and chestnut house is very private and cozy. After a total restoration, it was even featured in This Old House Magazine. The cottage can sleep five people. It has two bedrooms, and a sleeping loft, modern heat and air conditioning and the conveniences of a modern kitchen and bathroom. (Look for the photos showing the house as it was prior to restoration in 1999.) Located at the end of a long and beautiful tree lined drive, the cottage sits on 50 rolling acres of woods and pasture. Enjoy the quiet and solitude. Sit by a campfire. Walk along the wooded paths. Stay for as long as you like. (One guest spent the entire winter and wrote a screenplay.) For breakfast, we stock your pantry and refrigerator with locally grown and produced foods whenever possible. You can prepare breakfast at your leisure. Included are local eggs, fruits and juices along with a variety of cereals, pastries, yogurts, teas, coffee etc. The kitchen has a microwave, a cook-top, coffee maker, full size refrigerator and freezer and all the pots, pans, utensils and spices one would need. There is also a Weber grill with charcoal.
