The SpaceEvery window you look out of—and there are lots of them—brings your eyes to rest on trees and mountain and sky and green. The light and time of day change the scene hourly. Inside is cozy but spacious. We’ve been working on this house for a while. We laid the pine floors ourselves, as well as the slate floor in the dining room. We hand-selected from a nearby beach the stones inlaid in the dining room floor. We haven’t finished the fireplace, but the antique mantle makes it feel that way. We faced the queen bed in the master bedroom toward the windows so that Mt Storm King appears across the valley as the first thing that greets you each morning. Sometimes, the moon or sun travels along the ridge to the south and lights up the trees on the top. We have binoculars for eagle sightings, meteor showers, and the journey of the moon. The deck off the bedrooms is a good place to sit, sip, and watch. We usually have plenty of firewood for fires either inside or out in the fire-pit. There are lots of games, music, and books. Even if it is grey outside, the magnificence of Olympic National Park—much of which is only minutes away—will draw you out. We provide a full list of things to do, both in the park and in the surrounding areas. The kitchen is large and easy to work in. It has a slow cooker, a food processor, and basic supplies—any equipment you’d need for a gourmet meal. The long, narrow, wooden dining room table seats eight quite comfortably. There's a queen bed in the master bedroom, and in the other bedroom there is a bunk with a full-sized bed on the bottom and a twin on top. We also have a couple of adult-sized sleeping pads for the floors, with sheets and/or sleeping bags and pillows available. Interaction with GuestsYou're not likely to see us--we live in Portland, Oregon, most of the time. But we're happy to talk on the phone or via e-mail if you're interested. It's possible you'll see James's mother Lynne, who's our caretaker and lives nearby. The NeighborhoodYou'll leave the world behind. Our place is 1/4 mile off a local road, behind a gate, through a tunnel of trees, and at the top of a clearing with a view of Mt Storm King. We have neighbors, but all the lots are forested, 5- and 20-acre sites, so you may never see them. Getting AroundThe house is not far off Highway 101, and Shadow Mountain grocery is nearby. (They only carry the basics; you might want to do your main shopping in Port Angeles or Sequim. Port Angeles is about 15 minutes away.) Clallam Transit shuttles between Port Angeles and Forks about eight times a day ((EMAIL HIDDEN) and you can walk in about ten minutes from our house to the highway where the bus runs. Give them a wave and they'll stop! You can also (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) "olympic national park transit guide" for a convenient brochure that lists bus, ferry, and air travel information. We would be happy to provide you with travel times to the various high points--and secrets!--in and around Olympic National Park. Just ask! Other Things to NoteContact us if the check-in and check-out times are a problem for you. We might be able to work something out. BRAND NEW--we now have a satellite internet connection and wifi in the house. You'll also find a DVD player, but there's no broadcast TV of any kind. (Please don't stream movies, however, since our data plan is limited.) Cell phone service depends on your carrier: Sprint and Verizon customers have few problems, but T-Mobile and AT&T users have no service in the house, though some of our guests have reported getting a signal outside the house. There is a land line in the house for emergencies and local calls. Please don't use it for long distance calling. We've built a swing set/slide for your kids! Actually, we did it for our kids, but they're not using it much anymore! Also, we have a chest full of toys appropriate for young children or toddlers, and we have float toys also for when you go to the lake. There are some board games available as well. Bring your passport if you want use the ferry out of Port Angeles to visit Victoria, B.C.

The SpaceAt KelSce Cottage you’ll awake to birds’ song & feel like you’re a million miles away from the city … but in truth, tho no neighbors or streets may be seen, you’re only 10 minutes away from Port Angeles, where you'll be 17 miles to Hurricane Ridge, 15 miles to Lake Crescent, with Sol Duc Hot Springs and the ancient Hoh Rain Forest beyond. At KelSce Cottage, your home-away-from-home is the entire 2nd floor of a classic NW contemporary home set on 5 acres of grassy open space & woodland where deer, raccoon, a variety of birds, owls, hawks and bald eagles may be seen. Your queen-sized bed occupies only a small part of your spacious, private suite. There’s a walk-in closet and a large bathroom with double sinks and a custom tile & glass shower. In the morning, fresh brewed coffee or tea awaits you downstairs, with homemade cinnamon cake—and there are 2 covered porches where you may chose to enjoy it, listening to birds sing or watching deer stroll by. There are log benches positioned around the 5 acres for your use. A sauna-- located off the back porch -- is available from noon until 10pm. And you may want to say ‘hello’ to the resident mares & cottage namesakes, Kelly & Scecret (carrots are in the bottom drawer of the refrigerator). Two dogs, a grumpy Spaniel named Cooper & warm and wonderful mini-Australian Shepherd called Swirl, also call KelSce Cottage home. You’re sure to unwind and relax in this peaceful setting that is so close to town. Guest AccessPls note: that while the large suite you'll occupy is the entire 2nd floor of my home, entry to it is thru my front door and up an interior staircase. There is no separate, outside entry to the 2nd floor of the house. The front and back porches, and the sauna are available to guests, and they are on the ground level. Also, I am nearly 4 miles (all uphill) from the nearest public transportation, so guests MUST have a car to travel here. There is plentiful, off-street parking. Interaction with GuestsI work out of my home office, so I'm readily available--but will always respect your wish for privacy. The NeighborhoodThe Olympic Peninsula of Washington is spectacular country, and Port Angeles is the gateway to it all ... The Olympic National Park's Hurricane Ridge (at 5,300') is just 17 miles out of town. And at Edis Spit -- which IS downtown -- you can walk along the beach and watch otters frolick in the waves. Where else can you stand at 5,000+ feet viewing wildlife & glaciers, then 40 minutes later, wiggle your toes in salt water on a sandy beach? There's Lake Crescent, Sol Duc Hot Springs and the ancient Hoh Rain Forest to visit; Neah Bay has the great Makah Tribal Museum; and of course, the many Pacific Ocean beaches are spectacular. If you want a terrific day trip, the Coho sails to charming Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, daily from Port Angeles harbor. (If planning to visit our neighbors to the north, pls note that your passport is now required to travel to Canada. Also, due to work on the dock, their sailing schedule may change -- please see the Coho website for up-to-date into.) Getting AroundOf course, there is off-street parking at Kelsce Cottage for your car -- which you'll need to have for exploring the area. If you're bringing your bicycle, it's fantastic country for a ride--check out the Discovery Trail! Unfortunately, public transportation is lacking, and the closest bus service is nearly 4 miles away. But you will need a car to explore the Olympic National Park, anyway!

The SpaceThe Royal Chateau is a vintage 1970 double wide mobile home, complete with avocado green appliances. Well maintained, with recent updates for a comfortable, familiar feel, it is a wonderful place to step back a bit and enjoy the beauty of this part of the world. Guest AccessSalt Creek County park is adjacent to this property which is a great spot for surfing, kayaking, and tide pooling. It is also a popular spot for bird and whale watching. There is a playground, basketball court and volleyball net, as well as the public beach east of Salt Creek. It is the site of the former Camp Hayden, which was a military post during World War II. There a old bunkers and gun installations which are interesting to explore. Striped Peak is also adjacent to this property. It is about 1000 feet in elevation and has miles of trails and logging roads to explore on foot or bike. The beach west of Salt Creek is privately owned and there is a fee for access. A pass can be purchased at the private campground that fronts the beach. The small town of Joyce is three miles away and has a general store and The Blackberry Cafe, known for it's yummy pies. Port Angeles is about 25 minutes away to the East. Lake Crescent and Olympic National Park are close by and opportunities for day trips are unending. Interaction with GuestsWe live three miles away and run a small organic farm, which we started in 1993. We are available if need be, but pretty much want you to enjoy the Chateau in privacy. The NeighborhoodThis area is so bountiful in beauty and diversity. You can literally surf in the morning and ski in the afternoon. Fish in the rivers, lakes or ocean. Hike in the rain-forest, or stroll on the beach. The Chateau provides a comfortable, cozy base camp for adventures, or just a great spot to hunker down, relax and read a book. Because it is located above an estuary the mosquitos can be aggravating during the summer months. This is the reason we added the screen porch. The beach however is always bug free! Getting Around The Chateau is located 18 miles West of Port Angeles. The closest public bus is three miles away on HWY 112. A car is the easiest way to get around. Other Things to NoteThe Chateau has a rotary wall phone, which is set up for local calls only. It can receive long distance calls. The cell phone reception can be spotty for certain carriers. There is no wi-fi. There is a TV for playing DVDs and a CD/tape radio player. There is a Pack and Play portable crib in the bedroom closet.

All other spaces, including the bathrooms, are shared. 24 hour access to pool, hot tub, sauna, wifi, cable tv, living, kitchen spaces, decks, etc. Guests are encouraged to enjoy the spaces at all hours, with respect at night for those who may be sleeping. Smoking is permitted in outside areas. We have Shetland sheep, Nigerian dwarf dairy goats, 2 senior rescue horses, 2 fuzzy llamas, 3 barn cats and a flock of chickens. The animals can be viewed from the main yard and most rooms in the house. We can give you a tour of the barn, and a chance to feed some of them by hand if time permits. It is not unusual to see coyotes, deer, eagles, snow geese and heron from the house. In the spring there is a symphony of birds during the day, and frogs at night! Interaction with GuestsMyself or a helper will be present to greet you and give you a tour of the house and grounds. I am on site 90% of the time, but its a big site... If you don't see me, text any questions or concerns. I love to visit with guests if there is time, but also, privacy is respected. The NeighborhoodThough close to town, it's sparsely populated, lovely and quiet. We have 6 acres with sheep, goats, 2 llamas, chickens, 2 horses, an Akbash livestock guard dog, in addition to our crew of house dogs. The animals are all sociable, and you are welcome to visit them, or help feed them. Just let us know. They are also especially popular with kids. Getting AroundBus in town, hiking and biking trails. Other Things to NoteThere's a latch on the front gate we ask that you open and close again after driving in and out. You need to exit your car, open the gate, drive through, then close it again. If you see a loose husky inside the gate, please wait. We don't want him getting out. It's very important to give us an accurate arrival time so we can be here to greet you when you and familiarize you with the house, grounds and animals. If you are bringing a pet, please let us know in advance. We ask that you bring no more than 2 children. Children who are very excitable, or have trouble minding, may not be a good fit for this farm, as their enthusiasm can be disturbing to the dogs, which can cause excessive barking, which disturbs everyone. Polite children who love animals are in heaven here, from babies to teens.

The SpaceYou feel as though you are stepping into another era when you walk through the door - except for for all the modern conveniences. Located near the center of town on a quiet street in a lovely, friendly neighborhood. Walk to the coffee shop, grocery store, downtown area! Enjoy sitting outside on lovely summer days on the large fenced in patio appointed with table, chairs, umbrella. Cook up a feast on the propane grill and enjoy dining 'al fresco'! The home has been renovated with new paint, appliances, hardware, etc. The three generously sized bedrooms have queen beds and are handsomely appointed. Open, cheery kitchen with all the cookware and utensils you require. Large two car garage and plenty of parking. Upstairs master has a beautiful mountain view and balcony. The other upstairs bedroom has a peek-a-boo view of the Strait. Bedroom on first level is perfect for those who have difficulty with stairs. This year the upstairs bedrooms were carpeted for a cozier feel, and a new high efficiency heat pump was installed. There is always something being improved here! In the spring, there is a symphony of birds during the day, and frogs at night! Interaction with GuestsMyself or a helper will be present to greet you and give you a tour of the house and grounds. I am on site 90% of the time, but its a big site... If you don't see me, text any questions or concerns. I love to visit with guests if there is time, but also, privacy is respected. The NeighborhoodBeautiful views, lots of open space, quiet neighbors, very close to the park and town. Getting AroundThere are buses, hiking trails and the olympic discovery trail for bikes. Other Things to NoteThere's a latch on the front gate we ask that you open and close again after driving in and out. You need to exit your car, open the gate, drive through, then close it again. If you see a loose husky inside the gate, please wait. We don't want him getting out. It's very important to give us an accurate arrival time so we can be here to greet you and familiarize you with the house, grounds and animals.

The SpaceCottage on Lake Crescent, completed in the spring of 2005, is available to those who love a spectacular setting for an adventuresome or restful vacation. It is located in the Olympic National Park. Lake Crescent, a 620' deep shimmering jewel, was carved by a huge glacier thousands of years ago. It is at the northern border of Olympic National Park, 20 miles west of Port Angeles, Washington just off on Highway 101. The pristine, crystal-clear blue lake quietly hugs steep mountain ridges, clad with ancient forests of western hemlock, Douglas fir, grand fir, and at the lower levels: moss-draped big leaf maples and alder. The cottage, located on Barnes Cove at the base of Mt. Storm King, faces spectacular views of the lake and mountain ridges. Within an easy walk are Lake Crescent Lodge, Storm King Ranger Station, a public boat launch, and scenic nature trails. The cottage (approximately 750 sq. ft.) provides a gracious setting for indoor-outdoor vacationing: swimming, canoeing, kayaking, scuba diving, sunning at the doorstep, a bonfire by the beach or an evening indoors by the woodstove. Walk the trails, relax and take in the view of the lake, or kayak right from our beach. Guest AccessGuests will enjoy the fully furnished cottage with a complete kitchen, linens, bedding, paper products, wood for the fire, two small & cozy bedrooms each with a double bed, a queen sleeper sofa in the living room, laundry facilities, an outdoor dinning area & plenty of outdoor seating, evenings by the bonfire on our beach... Interaction with GuestsBecause we are based in Portland, 5 hours away, we expect not to have too much interaction with guests. However, please feel free to call with any questions. The NeighborhoodThe cottage is within the Olympic National Park, just a short walk to Lake Crescent Lodge, which has a spacious enclosed deck, restaurant, boat rentals and gift shop. National Park Rangers also give fireside talks and guided nature walks around the lush old growth forests of Barnes Point and to nearby Marymere Falls. Adventurous hikes include Storm King and Pyramid Mountain for fantastic views of the Lake and beyond. In addition to the beauty of the Lake, and just 30 minutes away, are hot springs at Sol Duc Resort & short hike to the beautiful Sol Duc Falls. You can explore the the Strait of Juan de Fuca with it's tide pools and estuaries. Surfing and kayaking are also popular there. Within 1 hour is the rugged Pacific coast. Visit the wild and photogenic shores of Rialto Beach, see eagles and other shorelife. Visit the Hoh River Rain Forest. To the east, visit the 5800' high Hurricane Ridge for spectacular views of the Olympic Range and views of the Straits all the way to Canada. Speaking of Canada, board a ferry in Port Angeles and get away to the charming sea town of Victoria, B.C.. Catch and release fishing for the famous, native, Beardsley Trout. The SpaceSanctuary is 25 acres, only 5 miles from town, yet quiet and private. Our property is roughly 300 feet from The Olympic National Park boundary. No visible neighbors. Worries, rules and obligations are checked at the gate. Deer are common in the meadow, as are bald eagles overhead. Bear, cougar, bobcat, and coyote are occasional visitors. Spectacular water views from Victoria, B.C., San Juans, Mt. Baker, to Port Townsend. You receive the bottom section of our home and we are accessible year round. (In snow, our 4-wheel truck with chains can pick you up or deliver you to the main road.) From the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge and lighthouse in Sequim, to the "Twilight" tours in Forks, to the Coho ferry to Victoria, there are more tourist possibilities than you will have time for. And of course, the number one backpacking park in the country is literally out the back door. In a very short distance, Olympic National park goes from ocean beach to the Hoh rain forest to Hurricane Ridge to alpine glaciers. Lake Crescent offers boat rentals and Sol Duc hot springs is open year round. Then again, since Sanctuary looks and feels like the park, you may choose to stay on the property, close to a romantic fire, or stargazing from our private hot tub. In any event, our goal is to simply blow you away with our unique location, spotless facilities, and personal service. Guests at Sanctuary receive a discount on the local whale-watching cruises in season. Similarly, we have an amazing massage therapist who comes only to Sanctuary. (Sufficient scheduling notice is required.) In addition, we have an accupuncturist who will come to Sanctuary. For those who don't need a kitchen, we offer a Honeymoon Suite, with shower and jetted tub (both for two), king size memory foam bed, and electric fireplace. Same location, same view, same service. Guest AccessGuests will have an access code to the security gate and a separate entrance for the apartment off their own deck. They have access to the entire property other than the garage and main house. Hot tub access is available 24 hours a day. Longer term guests can arrange to use the washer/dryer. Interaction with GuestsAt this point, I would expect to be on site whenever guests were booked. Beyond check-in, answering any questions about the area, or dealing with any problems, I try not to intrude on their stay. Yogurt, and muffins in the fridge; homemade cookies on the counter; chocolates on your pillow; we will do our best to make your stay memorable. Welcome to our part of the world!

We have Shetland sheep, Nigerian dwarf dairy goats (including 4 babies born mid February 2016!), 2 senior rescue horses, 2 fuzzy llamas, 3 barn cats and a flock of chickens. The animals can be viewed from the main yard and most rooms in the house. We can give you a tour of the barn, and a chance to feed some of them by hand if time permits. It is not unusual to see coyotes, deer, eagles, snow geese and heron from the house. The NeighborhoodThere are five houses in our neighborhood and each on acreage, so its quiet, peaceful, but there are people there if you need them. If not, you can walk to town and catch a bus, or, if you have a bike, you can connect to the Olympic Discovery Trail. If you don't have one, you can rent one at a bike shop in town. If you need a ride, usually myself, a helper or another guest can offer short carpools. Other Things to NoteThere's a latch on the front gate we ask that you open and close again after driving in and out. You need to exit your car, open the gate, drive through, then close it again. If you see loose dachshunds inside the gate, please wait. We don't want them getting out.
