The initial building was a temporary iron structure and in 1889 a chancel designed by GW Smith was built and in 1932 a permanent nave was added. A War Memorial chapel was added in 1950. The St Cuthbert's Rectory that was built in 1910 was no longer required by the church and was later restored for use as a guesthouse. It is now a restaurant. The Port Elizabeth Central Dutch Reformed Church was built in 1876 as the Edwards Memorial Church. It served as the Congregational Mission Church. In 1921 the Dutch Reformed Church bought the building and added the tower in 1948. It is the side entrance of the Church that is used and many wedding photos have been taken at that entrance. The Centenery Methodist Church, which was opened in 1969, replaced the Russell Road Church. The old Russell Road Church closed 99 years after its foundation stone was laid and demolished so that the new freeway could be build. A window from the old church is part of the new building. The beautifully designed Raleigh Street Synagogue, built in 1912 was the place of worship of Jewish Settlers from Eastern Europe and Russia. The Synagogue is now used as a museum of local Jewish history. Getting AroundWe are a 4 minute walk to public transport. The nearby eateries is also a 5 minute walk. The smallest pub in PE and the famous Cubata restaurant are even closer! Within a 10 mins drive there are a number of takeaways and other restaurants and plenty of shopping facilities. Getting AroundThere is a public bus stop within 5 mins and taxi's stop regularly. The N2 to Durban and Cape Town is 10 mins away and you can be at any one of the many beaches within 20 mins. The SpaceDaybreak cottage is a double storey home with fantastic sea views. We have a plunge pool with an amazing deck to enjoy lovely days looking at the bay. We are situated in the centre of the city, which means easy access to the beach, the Boardwalk, awesome restaurants (which is within easy walking distance) and you are a hop a skip and a jump from the high way to take you to Addo Elephant park or anywhere else. We offer off street parking, however our driveway is a bit of an adventure, it is very steep. We are happy to help with parking the car The NeighborhoodRichmond Hill is one of the oldest suburbs in Port Elizabeth. Is has been one of the few older suburbs that have had a face lift, with added security by means of neighbourhood watch. We have the most amazing restaurants 4 blocks away. 7 min walk up the hill and about 5 min back down the hill. There are around 12 restaurants in a 2 block radius, so you will have many choices.
