The SpaceWe are in Konedobu, Port Moresby close to Harbour City. This is a colonial style house that has been completely renovated to a very high standard. Kitchen and bathroom fittings were imported from Europe. The floors are beautiful Papua New Guinean hardwood. The large verandas are perfect for sitting out on for meals or just relaxing. When it gets too hot the house has air-conditioning and ceiling fans. It's very secluded at the top of a private driveway and very secure with our live-in security as well as being double fenced. Back-up water and generator. Guest AccessGuests have access to 3 bedrooms and a study, as well as the fully stocked kitchen and open plan living and dining room. One bedroom has en suite bathroom and there is separate family bathroom. There is a large second living room, air conditioned with further bathroom, which can also be used as a fourth bedroom if desired. Interaction with GuestsWe have a downstairs apartment which is separate to the main house. We can use this when visiting if the house is occupied. There is a separate guard house where a family member can stay to provide security. The gardens are maintained regularly. The house is cleaned weekly, but can be serviced more frequently if required. The NeighborhoodThe house is elevated enough to have beautiful views of Fairfax Harbour, but it's still close to Harbour city for shopping and banking. The Yatch club is not far for socialising.

The SpaceThis is the only village stay on Airbnb. Come live like a local in Papua New Guinea! Guest AccessHiking, Canoeing, Waterfalls, Bird Watching, Fishing, Snorkeling, Scuba Diving Interaction with GuestsInteraction is as much or as little as you want---we recommend immersing yourself in the culture. The NeighborhoodTufi is located in Oro Province on the NE side of the mainland of Papua New Guinea approximately 250 kilometers ENE of the capital, Port Moresby. Situated between Lae and Alotau on the tip of Cape Nelson, Tufi is 130km E of Kokoda and 120km ESE of Popondetta, the capital of Oro Province. The area of Tufi is set in a very unique and pristine region of PNG. With its clear waters, Tufi hosts some of the best diving in the world. From large coral outcrops and shelves to sandy cays, deep fjords and the surrounding rainforests, the region is an adventurer’s paradise. Occupying the coastal strip be between the Solomon Sea and the Owen Stanley Ranges, Oro province covers 22,800 km² and has approximately 140,000 inhabitants. TUFI CULTURAL EXPERIENCES Papua New Guinea is the land of a million different journeys. Tufi explores many of these journeys and allows you to uncover culture and traditional ways that one thinks does not exist anymore. Tufi is a great location to combine with other cultural festivals taking part in the country to give you a mix of the different provinces and their cultural differences. Tufi’s cultural festival will enlighten you into the Oro province traditional ways of food gathering and hunting, village life, spiritual beliefs and introduce you to their language “Karafe”. This is their place talk meaning the language spoken by their villages. At Tufi we encourage school groups to come and spend time in the local village guesthouses. This will open children’s minds to a very basic way of life without the modern conveniences we rely on today such as computers, mobile phones, supermarkets, electricity and even running water. We encourage this form of educational experience to enlighten the young ones of today so that they can appreciate nature at its finest and learn a survival that they would not be exposed to in their own environment. Daily life of the local villagers includes building their traditional homes and canoes from sago palms, traditionally gardening and fishing and processing of their food, making ropes for hunting pigs, fishing nets and processing various trees for tapa cloth which is a traditional clothing. The “Getaway” factor of Tufi’s location is romantic and is conducive for weddings and honeymoons. There is no transfer time at Tufi as you virtually fly right into the resort. No other resort offers this convenience. So whether it's a wedding or a conference you will not find a better place for privacy and ambience. European History In the 18th century Tufi was first recognised as an idyllic anchorage for British capital ships. Later, and in the same period, it became a government station, occupied by the British. The first missionaries here were Anglican and their religion remains predominant today. The Tufi Dive Resort occupies the site that was formally the District Manager's residence during PNG's colonial era. During WWII the Tufi wharf was initially occupied by the Japanese but then was subsequently used as the site of a USN Advance PT Boat base from December 1942 with PT Boats operating along the coast from Buna to Mambare. (URL HIDDEN) After WWII the original District Manager's residence was converted to a guesthouse for government employees and other buildings were added. The Laki Hotel was built in the 1970's and Tufi became a popular getaway for Port Moresby residents. Getting AroundLocal Dugout Canoes (and we have some powerboats from Tufi Resort if you don't like to paddle!) Other Things to NoteMake sure to read this entire section as this AirBNB listing is like none other in the world! Tufi is only accessible by air or sea. The flight time from Port Moresby to Tufi is approximately 50-55 minutes. Domestic flights and local charter flights are available. PNG has about 800 languages and most Papua New Guineans speak at least two languages. The official national language is English and the two other most commonly used languages are Hiri Motu and Tok Pisin. Most guides will speak English apart from Motu and one other local language. Always ask if you do no understand what’s being said. Pricing for a night stay is USD/AUD $80 per person / per night. This includes village hut accommodation, meals prepared & cook by village hosts using local produce, mattress, sheets, mosquito nets, outside toilet/wash facilities. We do remind guests that they are in a remote village and there is no electricity or running water. While staying in a Tufi guest house travelers will have the opportunity to experience genuine village atmosphere, most times being the only tourist for miles. Tours can be arranged through Tufi Resort while at the village such as treks, outrigger trips, cave visits, bird watching, swimming/snorkeling, waterfall tours etc. For the outer villages there is a boat transfer charge of $90 (flat rate) one way. If the weather is right, guests can be taxied to the neighboring villages by outrigger canoe at no charge. The outer villages are a little harder to do by outrigger however it is possible for fit guests but it will take a few hours to reach the outer villages. Hence, the motorized boat option is offered by the resort. The village stays are arranged through the resort management and the village hosts. A lot of guests that come to Tufi will combine a few nights in the village with a few nights at the resort to experience all Tufi has to offer. For this booking, one night is required at Tufi Resort due to travel times/airline schedules. Pricing at Tufi Resort is as follows: Deluxe Bungalow Single $255 Double $185 Deluxe Room Single $255 Double $160 These rates include chef prepared meals (continental breakfast, lunch, 3 course dinner), airport transfers at Tufi as well as free use of snorkel equipment on the house reef. Though it is recommended guests stay at the resort on the first night it doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. Often this is for guests coming in on the afternoon flight who are not able to reach the village that same day due to last light issues. Same applies for guests going out and require a night at the resort for the morning flight following day.

The SpaceThis is a residential yard. I live in a home behind The Box. The yard is fully fenced and secure. You will have access to wifi located in my home behind The Box, which works most days. But please do not rely on it if you intend to use it for work. The signal can drop out sometimes. As this is a bit of a project, there is currently no hot water in The Box (although Moresby is pretty hot most year so you shouldn't need it). I also haven't installed a TV yet and probably won't. You can always come over to mine to watch some local telly. There are also no backups on site (water/power). Water outages are rare but power outages can be common at certain times of the year. Usually not for longer than a half hour at a time. We have solar lights to assist. Guest AccessGuests can access most of the area. I have a huge backyard where you can relax or exercise. The laundry is located on my back verendah and the line is in the backyard. Interaction with GuestsI have started a fly-in-fly-out job in Manus so I may not be home during your stay at the Box. My friends will be there to assist you settle in while I am away. When I am home though, I am generally available for a coffee and chat and can assist as best I can with general enquiries guests may have. The NeighborhoodBoroko is one of the oldest residential areas of Port Moresby. It is in the centre of Port Moresby and a short distance to everything, ie hospital, airport, cafes, clubs. My street has two schools on it and several sporting complexes close by. I regularly play squash at the Racquet Club about 2 mins walk from the house. Getting AroundPMV (public buses) stop 20m from The Box. Taxis can be easily caught. As mentioned if you need a day guide or to hire a vehicle, I can assist in arranging it. Other Things to NoteMy family runs a hire car company, so if you are interested in hiring a vehicle either with or without a driver during your stay please let me know. We can also arrange walking/PMV (public bus) day tours of Port Moresby for K50 ($USD18-20).
