The SpaceThis is a very private ground floor three-room space, with its own entrance and private bathroom. There is no kitchen, although we provide a hot water boiler for the provided tea and coffee, as well as a toaster oven and a refrigerator for your use.(URL HIDDEN)You walk in from the outside through your own private entrance. This leads to the first bedroom. This room gets good light and has a comfortable love seat, where you may want to hang out to read or relax. Your private bathroom is located here also.
After you walk through this room, you will come into the Sitting Room, which was actually designed to be a home theater at one time. Along with two couches, this room has a screen, DVD and Video players, a Chromecast device in case you have Netflix on your computer, and a collection of many DVDs and Videos. This sitting room also has a large bookcase filled with books which you are free to browse. We have a Yamaha Electric Piano that can also be set up in this room for you piano player travelers out there! This room, being a former 'home theater', has no exterior windows, although there are many lights in the room.
You then come to your second bedroom, privately tucked away. It has two windows, a queen sized bed, desk and chair, and shelves for your clothes. The coffee and tea station, with loose leaf tea and strainers, and a bag of the coffee that we roast (Port Townsend Coffee Roasting Co.), along with drip filter set ups and a hot water kettle, is located in this room.
There are two doors and a set of stairs separating this whole floor space from the rest of the house for a great amount of privacy. There is a small refrigerator for you to use also, right outside the sitting room door.
We live in a straw bale house, which makes it cozy and warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It is in a co-housing neighborhood right in town, halfway between Downtown and Uptown, and Fort Worden, with walking paths, open space and forest nearby, yet very close to town (10 minute bike ride on a safe bike lane or 30 min walk to downtown). One of the nicest and most accessible Food Co-ops anywhere is one mile away, and the Port Townsend Saturday Farmers' Market is a 20 minute walk from the house.(URL HIDDEN)There is a walking trail that passes nearby our house, perfect for exploring this part of Port Townsend on foot. We are also right on the path to Cappy's Trails, a trail system through the extensive woods that are right in town, and a 15 minute walk to Fort Worden, with beaches, trails, Centrum music events, and many historical artifacts from the late 1800s. The Centrum, with Fiddle Tunes, Jazz Festival, Blues Festival, and Voiceworks, is a 15 minute walk or short bike ride from the house. It is the same distance to the Fairgrounds, with its weekly events and the Jefferson County Fair in August(URL HIDDEN)
We can tell you about events, attractions, and places to go to (or not). We're very familiar with town and the surrounding areas, and we own a coffee house called 'Better Living Through Coffee' right in the center of town on the water. I have roasted coffee for almost thirty years and always supply fresh roasted Organic Fair Trade coffee to my guests with a pour over set up, as well as loose teas and tea filters. If you use milk or cream, you can bring some and store it in the refrigerator that is right outside your rooms. (We also give you a $5 discount on any order at the cafe, if you mention you are our guests to the staff, so that you can go down to the coffee house for coffee and an organic scone or other pastry.)
If you are planning to come to Port Townsend for one of the Centrum's festivals (Jazz, Blues, Writers' Workshop, Voice, or Choro), please ask us about a weekly rate for the space.
We are Michael and Elisa. Michael's two children, 11 and 13, are here several days of the week and every other weekend. If you are 'kid people' then come anytime…..if you like peace and quiet, ask us when the kids are not around, and this would be your time! We do not have any pets, and are fairly quiet people, although we are known to play the piano and fiddle when the mood strikes and if no one minds the music!
We look forward to your visit…..Please ask us any questions through the (website hidden) and we will answer quickly.
Take care, Michael and Elisa Guest AccessGuests have private access to the entire ground floor, which has its own private bathroom. It is separate from the rest of the house, with its own entrance. There is a refrigerator, facilities for making tea and coffee, but no private kitchen. If you want to use the house kitchen occasionally, this can be worked out in advance with us. If you are more than 2 people, there is an extra charge as specified in the listing. Tell us when you contact us, and we will be able to accommodate your extra guests comfortably. Interaction with GuestsWe live upstairs from the guest suite, and use a private entrance. Guests can see us as much or little as they want, simply by either coming upstairs and knocking on our door, or not. As long as we are in town, we are available for any questions, recommendations, or information for our guests, and we do enjoy interacting with everyone! The NeighborhoodOur place is centrally located: 1 mile to uptown, 1 mile to Fort Worden, and 1 1/2 miles to downtown. For us, these are all in easy walking or biking distance. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful, with a lot of open space and walking trails. Getting AroundThe bus stops on the corner. It is easy to walk or bike ride virtually anywhere in town. Other Things to NoteThe space, although self-contained, has no cooking facilities, aside from a toaster oven and a hot water boiler, as per Port Townsend codes regarding tourist rentals! If you would like, we can provide dishes, utensils, etc., for you to use.
