The SpaceThis cedar-clad cabin in Central Ontario is surrounded by bucolic countryside and offers the wilds of a remote nature preserve. It is a very comfortable on-grid cabin, light, airy, and modern, yet peaceful, and private. It is winterized and open year-round. You'll only be a few minutes from shops and necessities but seemingly miles from civilization. There are 100 acres in which to roam, with trails, wildlife, fields and northern Ontario forest, nestled outside the northwest corner of Algonquin Park. The cabin is equipped with one loft bedroom upstairs that has a queen bed and and a single daybed. The main floor has an open-concept kitchen and living area and measures 20' x 24'. There is a SCAN scandinavian high-efficiency wood-burning stove in the kitchen. Firewood is provided, however we typically shut it down for the warm season. Back-up heat includes a portable infra-red heater as well as baseboard heaters for those extra-cold days. The house is fully insulated. It has hydro, one full indoor bathroom, and a screened-in deck with outdoor wrap-around porch. Dogs are sometimes welcome, but please check with me first. Due to allergen considerations of other guests we ask that it be a non-shedding dog. And cats are not allowed. The cabin is furnished and I supply everything you need for a truly comfortable stay.(except for your own food). Linens, towels, kitchen utensils, LED TV, /portable stereo. The Tv accepts USB keys/ports if you want to bring your own movies and shows. There is no basic cable services. The kitchen does not have a full-size oven but there is a mini high-end Breville convection oven which can roast a small chicken, and a 2-burner cook-top. If you truly want to get away from it all, this is the place for you. There is no wifi service but depending on your service provider you may be able to access the internet thru your cellphone or tablet; we have had guests in the past who have used their cellphones as hotspots. There is also wifi available at the Powassan library for a very low cost. There is a landline telephone on which you can receive long-distance calls but can only dial-out locally. There is an outdoor fire bowl to enjoy at night as well. The cabin is located on a private road just outside of Powassan, Ontario in the Township of Chisholm, which abuts the northwest corner of Algonquin Park. There are thousands of acres of crown land nearby, yet within 10 minutes you can have access to town which has a Beer Store, LCBO, hardware, groceries, restaurants, laundromat, farmer's market, gas station, mechanics, library, tennis courts, public pool, legion hall, cop-shop, and other conveniences. The grocery store in town offers a very decent selection of foods as well as organic produce. North Bay is only 30kms away should you need something from any big-box store, a movie night, or sushi. The property is not on a lake but is very close to several lakes with public beaches, boat launches, and ice-fishing. There are also several extensive roads, trails and lakes throughout the crown lands next to our township. There is a network of trails on the property (intermediate) for hiking and snowshoeing. We often have spare snowshoes on hand if other guests are not using them. Most outdoor stores like MEC will rent equipment and gear. There is a cross-country ski club (no membership req'd), and nearby there are several OFSC trails. At the nearby lake you can rent a canoe for about $5 per hour. Canoes and kayaks may also be rented at Algonquin North Outfitters and delivered for you at the Kiosk entry point of the Park. The area is ideal for hiking, canoeing, fishing, hunting, birdwatching, camping, exploring, photography, mountain-biking, x-country skiing, snowmobiling, ATVing, boating, snowshoeing, or just relaxing. We provide a topo map of the area if you are the adventurous sort, showing various wilderness accesses and roads less travelled, and we can point you in the right direction. There are nearby dog-sledding expeditions and horse-riding facilities as well. A note for winter stays: A 4WD vehicle is almost certainly a must as the driveway is quite long, and can take a day or two to get plowed. Some experience using a wood-burning stove is also a must as it is the main source of heat. As your host I will likely be there to check you in, after which I will leave you to your privacy. There is also an excellent local store, Chisholm Country Market, that offers locally-produced baked goods, meats, and treats, and gas. Please note that pets occasionally come with previous guests so, although every visit gets a thorough cleaning, those with super-sensitive allergies may be affected. We reserve the option to refuse bookings to those without verifications or reviews, and if you are new to AirBnB and do not have any yet we will ask you to tell us a little something about yourself. And please note, guests must 25 years of age or older. We will also ask that over Xmas, New Years, and March break that guests book a minimum 5 nights. Guest AccessOutside of the cabin, guests have full access to all our trails and 100 acres of wilderness. There is a large pond next door at our place that guests may use as well. Interaction with GuestsGuests are left on their own, and we are typically nearby on a neighbouring property. The NeighborhoodChisholm Township is a beautiful rural area perched on the northwest corner of Algonquin Park. Getting AroundA car is pretty much a necessity.

The SpaceLog cabin located on horse farm. Sleeps 4 persons. Rustic but quiet and beautiful -nice view of Chapman Valley! The cabin is built as an octagon but also has an upstairs for some privacy. Outdoor washroom - no running water but spring water supplied. River runs through property and large pond as well. Please bring your own sleeping bags and pillows. This cabin has no hydro but has a 12 volt battery system for lighting or charging by USB. The cabin is heated only by wood so during the fall and winter the firewood needed to heat must be purchased at $10 per bag. The wood is delivered by me to the cabin for your use. The bagged hardwood is kiln-dried and will not create dangerous creosote in the pipes and chimney and therefore is the only option for the air-tight stove. Depending on the outside temperatures you could use between 1 and 2 bags per day. I will instruct you on operating the air-tight stove to get the most out of your firewood. You can book a horse back ride or an ATV ride during your stay if you wish at an additional cost depending on weather and conditions. Please ask for details. Trails are throughout the property - fields and forest. You can bring your own ATVs - lots of back roads to explore in this area. The Trans Canada Trail is only 2 km away from the farm! Great for bird-watching, you may hear wolves howling at night! Within a half hour drive are 3 villages with stores, restaurants and shops. Within an hour drive are 3 larger centres with theatres, cruise boats and more shopping! There are several golf courses within a half hour of the farm. If you happen to be here on a Saturday we have a great Farmers Market just 10 minutes away! This farm is unique in its beauty! The Distress River runs through the farm with a swimming hole. There is also a large pond which attracts many types of waterfowl, herons, bitterns and ospreys. The cabin is situated on a hill overlooking the valley and west facing for fantastic sunsets! Great family spot to get back to nature and appreciate the peace and quiet! You will see the stars as never before! The night view is a story of its own. Guest AccessYou will have access to 200 acres of rolling hills and forest trails. A river runs through the property and is available for swimming. During the winter months there are meadows and rolling hills to try out snowshoeing and if you have cross-country skis bring them along to try the trails. Interaction with GuestsI will be on hand during your stay and will help in any way I can to make your stay interesting and comfortable. If you decide to take a horseback or ATV ride I will be your guide. I have lived in this area all of my life and can give you tips on where to go out to eat or go sight-seeing if you wish. We are offering a breakfast option this year to be prepared at the farmhouse. If you are interested ask about this plan. We can cater to dietary restrictions. The NeighborhoodYou can experience nature here on the farm by hiking through the forest or out in the fields of wildflowers. The river is a whole ecosystem on its own and adds to the farm experience immeasurably. There is no shortage of fresh air and peace and quiet during your stay here. There is an outdoor fire pit for those much enjoyed family evenings by the lake. The cottage is fully equiped and includes a BBQ, washing machine, dryer, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, large cooker, etc. All towels, linen & bedclothes included. While this cottage is in a beautiful country area it is still very accessable from the newly constructed 11 highway. Give your children the oppertunity to share this piece of beauty we have discovered. We treasure the comments and drawings other children have left in our comments book at the cottage. Eagle Lake is located just off Highway 11 and is near Mikisew Provincial Park and Algonquin Provincial Park. The area is a great city retreat for families. Lots of walks, quite roads for cycling, forest pathways, and safe boating & fishing on Eagle Lake.
