First thing in the morning and check in through their stay. We try to be sensitive to our guests need for privacy as well as social time while balancing those same needs for ourselves. Our home is non smoking and while we have a dog and cat, other pets may prove problematic. We are approachable and willing to discuss with guests who are travelling with pets. The NeighborhoodLiving in the country! Close access to beaches, woods, trails; hearing the frogs thrumping, gardening in the yard with our pets to keep us company, enjoying the mourning doves and other birds, hearing our wind chimes. Getting AroundThere is a transit bus with pick up close by. I would call it limited not convenient with a morning pick up and afternoon drop off - it doesn't run in the evenings nor on Thursdays or Sundays. Advise that guests have their own transportation. Other Things to NotePlease advise us of your arrival time! This is important as we are active people and may not be here when you show up UNLESS you advise us of your estimated time of arrival - ETA. The SpaceBeing situated in the country on the ocean makes our location special any season of the year. See herons on rocks out front. Hear eagles above and sea lions on the rocky island out front and even sometimes orcas and dolphins powering by. Last summer we had a bear on our beach. The summer before a pack of wolves. Heaven! This summer was great for Orcas - not so good for our seals though! Guest AccessYou have the beach house to yourself and share the beach area and Hot tub with B&Bers should they be also booked. Interaction with GuestsWe like to be a total service to all our guests. Just ask and we will endeavour to provide you with whatever you need to know. The NeighborhoodThis is a perfect place to get away from the bustle. Walks along the seashore, along the road and forest walks are all nearby. We have a couple of rural stores and good restaurant within about 10 minutes drive of our place. Getting AroundYou will need a car to get to most places. There is a rural bus that comes by three times a day on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday but other than that you are on your own. Other Things to NoteThere are canoe and bike rentals, fishing and boat charters' and we're close to a few of the huts and hikes of the famous Sunshine Coast Trail. A visit to Lund and the famous Nancy's Bakery with the equally famous Laughing Oyster Restaurant nearby. Then again perhaps you'd like to venture further into Desolation Sounds or Princess Louise Inlet? These are also great fun and easy to book from our place.

The SpacePlease note we have a high season (May-Sept) and a low season (Oct-April) each with it's own rate structure. If you are staying more than a month, the monthly rate is on a sliding scale, depending on the length of stay. The cottage is located 20 minutes south of the City of Powell River and 15 minutes north of the Saltery Bay Ferry Terminal, just off Highway 101, in the middle of Kelly Point. You arrive at the cottage by way of a driveway that meanders through our small private forest. The surrounding forest and fence, separating the cottage from the main house, ensures your privacy. The cottage is ~700+ sq ft in size, with 1 loft bedroom, a bathroom, kitchen, dining area and living room. There is a queen sized bed in the loft bedroom. Ideally the space is suitable for 2 adults but we can accommodate 4 persons, including children, by way of a double bed sized hide-a-bed sofa in the living room. Linens are supplied. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, dishes, cutlery and small appliances, including coffee pot, kettle and toaster. Basic staples of tea, coffee and condiments are also provided. There is a full sized washer/dryer and a BBQ on the deck. The potable water source is a treated community water system, with an additional filter at the cottage. The heat sources are electric baseboards and a cozy woodstove in the living room. For your entertainment there is Smart TV with basic cable, WiFi, books and games. Cellphone services are spotty in the cottage but can be accessed in the front yard. Guest AccessThe cottage is accessed via it's own private driveway. There is a private deck, with a bit of an ocean view, along with a yard in front of the deck. Interaction with GuestsHusband Rick and I live next door in the main house. Rick will be your main meet and greet guy. Other than when you check in or out, you will only see him if you have to or want to. I am the behind the scenes gal, organizing the listings and bookings. I am also the CPO (Chief Potter and Owner) of Down to Earth Clayworks, a working pottery studio located at the main house. The entire property is 1.2 acres with the cottage occupying about half the property. There is a fence and gate between the two houses (we have 2 labs). Rick is an avid veggie gardener and can be found most often next door to the cottage, in the garden, during the growing season - and he is happy to share the fruits of his labour. The NeighborhoodThe lovely treed driveway leading to our cottage is steeped in the history of the area. Once a thriving logging community, including logging by rail, the driveway is part of the original roadway to the former Mahood Family estate. Old growth stumps from past logging activities can be found in our forest. Nature abounds in this small community of mostly waterfront homes. It feels like 'cottage country' with country roads, tall trees and the occasional wildlife visitor .... bear, deer, eagles and other birds. Although we are not on the water, the waterfront is easily accessed, including a new viewpoint access, where from a bench seat, if you can brave the wind and rain, you can watch some of the spectacular southeasterly storms that come in with the rainy weather. The cottage is within walking distance of Donkersley Beach, one of Powell River's premier beach areas in the summer months. Brew Bay/Lang Creek Estuary and it's beach areas are a quick 5 minute jaunt down the road. If you kayak or canoe, there is parking at the Brew Bay beach access and a small launching area for carried water craft. The creek supports a Salmon Enhancement Facility and program. During late summer and fall months, salmon can be observed heading upstream. The eagles join the fishermen congregating on the waters edge. Some take to boats in both the Brew Bay and Douglas Bay (Donkersley Beach) waters, looking for the big catch. If walking/hiking/biking is your passion, on the other side of the highway at the end of Nassichuk Road, are some of Powell River's many serviced trails. Getting AroundThe Powell River Regional District provides a limited rural transit service. Details regarding the bus service is available by searching online for 'rural transit powell river'. Check the times for the Stillwater to Powell River route. We will also provide transportation information at the cottage. If you arrive by road, we are just off Highway 101 - turn down Zilinsky or Brew Bay Road, heading towards the water. If you arrive by air, car rentals are available at the airport. Other Things to NoteThe City of Powell River has 3 large grocery stores but if you are looking for limited supplies or a liquor store we are located between two rural corner stores - Lang Bay Store to the south and Black Point Store to the north.

The SpaceOverlooking the spectacular and tranquil views of Lang bay, watch eagles fly and the sailboats pass by. Head down to the beach and explore what this unique shoreline has to offer. This Pacific Northwest shoreline has it all - a mix of pebbles, rocks, sand, sea creatures, crab, blue herons, sand dollars, oyster shells, clam shells, marine mammals and much more. Hang out on the lower wooden deck or step off into nature and explore... Walk north along the high tide zone for only a minute to the sandy beach along the high tide mark where you can set up your beach blanket and umbrella and relax. Watch the kids play in the water while they explore the Pacific Ocean’s diverse marine ecology. Lang bay is well known for its warm waters, summer swimming and family friendly atmosphere. A great beach for frolicking in the sand and sun bathing. Build beach forts, sand castles, collect shells, or turn over a rock and chase a crab or two - a child's paradise. Located just a few doors away from the Sea Breeze Resort - rated as one of the best getaway’s in the area. Go for a leisurely walk along the shore and navigate the small stream as it empties into the ocean. Race a boat or take a float down the stream and continue to swim in the warm salt water. Go off even further past the stream and explore the coast line where you can cross the rustic log bridge and find even more sandy beaches beyond. The fine white sandy beaches are located just beyond the stream and are also accessible at low tides. Each year the pattern changes with the wave action. Walk south from the lower wooden deck at low tide and this will bring you to several massive rock formations. Kayak around the rocky point and discover one of “thee best” beaches in all of Powell River, PALM BEACH which is also accessible by vehicle, 1 min away from the house. Other activities include paddling kayaks around the bay (calm waters only) and further exploring what these peaceful waters have to offer (2 adults, 2 mini kids sit-on tops at Cabana // PFD sizes vary - Adult & Child. Kayaking is not recommended if white caps visible on waves). This bay is well known for its salmon fishing and has been the recent focus of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans recreational fishing studies. Further off shore one can find Rockfish, Ling cod and all sorts of Salmon species. Contact DFO for information on fishing opportunities. Back on the lower half of the 1 acre property, steps from the water, you can relax with a cold drink or take a snooze in the hammock located in the Beach Cabana located steps from the fire pit. Enjoy ice cold refreshments from the cabana's fridge and kick back with a favourite novel while relaxing in the hammock. The cabana is a great location to watch eagles with your binoculars and the setting sun as it disappears behind Texada island. The fire pit in the early evening is a great spot to enjoy getting back to nature and cooking dinner old school: just you and the flame.
