The NeighborhoodSpectacular views front & back, the house backs onto Bouddi National Park, & overlooks beautiful Hardys Bay and part of Brisbane Water to the North. With over 4 kms of level walking around Hardys Bay, Pretty Beach and Wagstaffe, enjoy a relaxed stroll or a surf at Putty Beach Killcare surf beach (5 just minutes’ drive). The Brisbane Waters and ocean views from a variety of walks through the Bouddi National Park, the walk to Lobster Beach and elsewhere are breathtaking. Hardys Bay village has 5 cafes & restaurants and a village store (opens early, ‘til 7.30) all within 5 minutes’ drive (most within 10 minutes comfortable walk); many more within 10-20 minutes’ drive, so you are spoiled for choice. Only 15 minutes’ drive to Woy Woy is the Fish Co-op (Seven Seas Restaurant), Woy Woy railway station (trains from Sydney approx. every 25 minutes) plus a variety of restaurants and shopping centres (Umina, Woy Woy, Erina, Gosford) nearby. Gosford, Avoca, Erina, Pearl Beach (another great restaurant, & a cafe) & the pretty fishing village of Patonga (perfect for a beer, great fish & chips, and oysters) are all about 25 minutes’ drive. Maybe leave the car in Pearl Beach and walk to Patonga (less than an hour moderate walk each way) enjoying Hawkesbury River views from the headlands and Trig Point along the way to Patonga. Clean surf at Killcare, Macmasters, Avoca and other beaches nearby (most are patrolled in holiday season). Other ideas - swim, fish & picnic at secluded Lobster Beach (a nice walk from Pretty Beach, but no vehicle access), bush walks (one hour stroll over spectacular headlands looking over Broken Bay and the Hawkesbury River), day-tripping to Palm Beach (ferries from Wagstaffe, with Ettalong/Hawkesbury stops), tennis or bowls (3 minutes’ drive, in Pretty Beach), hire a canoe or tinny for a day’s fishing (at Hardys Bay Marina), or just relaxing with friends or a book - Hardys Bay has it all for a week or two away, or a few days stopover on the way to or from Newcastle, Brisbane and beyond. Any day you will see a huge variety of native birds such as kookaburras, rosellas, scrub turkeys, lorikeets, king parrots, fish hawks & pelicans, plus various shags, cormorants & herons, and a variety of ducks. The house and its' locality are 'heaven' for artists; and for those wanting a quiet retreat. The spacious shaded 'deck' up in the trees is perfect for quiet contemplative time 'away from it all', reading, sketching or just enjoying the view drinking a coffee or enjoying some wine .... The Pretty Beach boat ramp is just 3 minutes’ drive. Every afternoon from about 4:15 p.m. locals gather under the yum yum tree at Hardys Bay junction directly across the road from the village store). The tradition has been running for more than 40 years - buy a 'long neck' beer or bottle of wine at the store across the road, and wander across and ask if you can join in. Visitors are always welcome! [Similar yum yum tree traditions are observed in Canberra ACT & Great Somerford, Wiltshire England]. Also, why not spend a few days at our other beautiful homes - in Waverton (Sydney); or in Dunsborough (close to the wonderful Margaret River wine area) Western Australia? Please ask for links to our homes in these other awesome locations. Getting AroundSelf-drive is recommend, as buses & taxis are not frequent, and the ferry only runs a few times daily (& seldom, outside summer months). The SpaceThis house is just a lovely place to be - beautiful bay views, lovely interiors, and very easy living as the kitchen and living areas with huge daybeds look onto the deck and view. Everything you need is there - fully stocked kitchen, BBQ, cosy log fireplace with cut firewood, as well as quality Orla Keily linen (doona covers - people usually bring their own sheets and towels) and contained garden leading onto a public waterfront walkway - great for biking or walking plus just a very short stroll to the bay/beach, shops, playground, tennis courts and cafes. Guest AccessSheets (2 x queen beds, 4 x single beds), bath towels, beach towels are available for international guests. We recommend local guests bring their own linen though we will provide bath mats, hand towels, tea towels. The house is great for adults but also set up for kids - comes with full size cot and cot linen, blankets; high chair; change mat, potty if needed! Plus a useful selection of kids books, DVDs, games and toys. Interaction with GuestsWe are based in Sydney but will be contactable by phone or email if needed. A local greeter will meet guests with keys, can show you around the house and provide local information. The NeighborhoodPretty Beach has just enough to keep you busy without being stressed out with options! Walk to nearby Hardy's Bay shops and cafes or catch the Ferry to glamorous Palm Beach, Avalon or the movies, markets, cafes at Ettalong. The coastal walks within Boudhi National Park are extensive and stunning - everything from a 1 hour loop through the bush tracks before breakfast or a 4 hour trip all the way to MacMasters Beach via lovely Maitland Bay. Getting AroundIt's preferable to have a car for your stay but you can manage without one. The house is a 15 mins taxi ride from Woy Woy train station. You can walk to Wagstaff ferry wharf in 15 mins and catch a ferry to Palm Beach or Ettalong. You can walk to the local shops in 10 mins and the beach in 15-20 mins (though a 3 min car trip is preferable as it's over a hill). You can walk to the bay waterfront in 1 min - the house faces onto the bay. Other Things to NoteStuff to do / Daytrip ideas There is heaps of stuff to do at Pretty Beach and the surrounding area. The place makes an ideal relaxing holiday because there’s just enough to do but not too much! So you don’t get stressed trying to run around fitting it all in! Many things can be done without getting in the car... bring bikes, scooters, fishing gear, snorkelling gear and boogie boards for the kids. After a decade visiting the area, here are some suggestions re the best the area has to offer: The awesome beach! Killcare / Putty Beach is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful natural beaches in the world. This is one long beach with a car park at each end. The south end (called Killcare Beach) has a large natural rock pool perfect for kids, and a surf club which serves hamburgers etc most months of the year. It also has a more formal upstairs restaurant. There is more surf at the south end. The north end (Putty Beach) is much flatter with little surf and a large rock shelf with lots of lovely rockpools. Families with little kids often prefer the north end. If driving, head back up the hill towards Killcare and take a right down Putty Beach Drive. Rather than curl up the hill into Anthony Crescent, drive straight into the Bouddi National Park camp ground and park at the very far end. Then you can simply walk straight onto the north end of Putty Beach. You need to buy a ticket from the machine to park if you don't have a National Parks sticker on your car. Some pics of the beach can be found here: (URL HIDDEN) Coastal walks! This end of Putty beach is also the start of several walks heading north along the coast line. These walks are fairly easy / medium level and very beautiful, right along the coast with stunning views. Head up the wooden stairs you will see a the very north end of Putty Beach, you can walk for just 20 mins or so round trip to just see a little of the coast, or go all the way to McMasters Beach. These walks are signposted at the far end of the Putty Beach carpark but you can also explore them online first here: (URL HIDDEN) Some of our favourite walks: 1.South ridge walk (my name) from 131 Heath Road - A nice shortish but hilly walk before breakfast (about 1 1/4 hour medium pace, 1.5 hours if you get a coffee from Fat Duck on way back..). Go out the back door and through back garden, out back gate onto the walking track, head left. Walk along waterfront / pretty beach bay till road bends left away from water; turn left at T junction in road. About 200m along on the right there is a signed track heading up hill to Lobster beach – go up that but only 150m or so till a T junction with another track at the back of the houses before you hit the steps going up the hill – take track heading left past the back of the few houses, rather than continuing up steps to Lobster beach. Keep going left along that track heading up the hill – but you are walking sort of parallel to Lobster Beach which is over the ridge. This track curls around to the right, continues up the hill for a bit through the bush (nice view towards Umina, Pearl Beach near top) then curls back to left and continues all the way along the ridge running north towards McMasters. Just follow your nose and the track, it is quite hard to get lost. Once you hit the top of the hill and a bit over the top you will come to a T with a big wide red dirt track – here the track goes right to Box Head (signed) but head left back towards Killcare. The track (now a dirt road) goes along top of the ridge back to the road into Killcare shops / Hardy’s Bay with the sea on your right – turn left down the hill once you reach the main road and have coffee at Fat Duck before heading home along the waterfront. You can walk all the way back to the house along the water’s edge and back through the back garden. This track is not very signposted but if you follow your nose and the track it’s hard to get lost. 2.Lobster Beach walk - A nice short afternoon / pre dinner drinks walk is to take some beers or something and go to Lobster beach to watch the sunset – because it faces West this is a nice calm spot, no surf, really pretty. It’s a flat walk from the house (see above walk) then you need to go up and over the ridge to get to Lobster Beach – it’s mainly large wooden steps and signposted. Probably a 20 min walk from the house to the beach. 3.A good medium length walk is Putty Beach to Maitland Bay and back – this track starts from the north end of Putty Beach – you could drive there and park at north end of beach - head on to beach and turn left to go to the most northern corner of the beach - you will see some big wooden stairs at end of beach and it’s pretty well signed. This is a pretty easy walk about 2 hours return to Maitland Bay from the north end of Putty beach. Plus you could walk from house to the beach or via the South Ridge walk and along the beach to extend it. If hot take swimmers to swim at Maitland Bay, or a packed lunch plus water - there’s nothing there but a really pretty beach and an old submerged ship wreck (The Maitland). Definitely take water. 4.Long walk is Putty Beach to McMasters Beach through Bouddi National Park – This is a really long walk, about 16km return on undulating track so only attempt if you want to spend most the day walking or you can arrange a pick up at McMasters! Head to Maitland Bay as per above and just keep going north – once you get to beach at Maitland bay walk to north end and you’ll see the track continuing up the hill heading north. There are a few Y junctions you get to after that which I can’t really describe and may or may not be well signed so this is where you might need a map or something. You can probably work it out, just keep heading north and stay as close to the water as you can. There is a little camping spot ¾ along called Little Beach. This is a long and undulating trail there and back, take food and water I can’t guarantee you can get some at McMasters (a very sad realisation one hungry rainy trek...). Markets Markets are a big past time on the Central Coast – check the latest news and markets dates here: (URL HIDDEN) Particularly good are the Avoca Markets. The Pretty Beach markets are small but fun and just a few mins walk away at Pretty Beach public school - but a bit sporadic. Ettalong also has some pretty rubbish markets Sat and Sun but they are under cover so something to do in bad weather (if desperate / curious) – then perhaps go to Coast for lunch (see below). Shops / eating / pamper Hardy’s Bay shops – there is a decent corner shop and good bottle shop at Hardy’s Bay. We usually pick up bread (the local sliced bread is good) and milk and wine/beer here. There is a huge new Woolworths at Umina if you need to pick up supplies. Plus various supermarkets and malls at Woy Woy, including a Coles and KMart. Woy Woy also has a big seafood co-op on the river, just ask someone for directions, it’s quite near the train station. Mooch Inside at Hardy’s Bay shops is a great clothing, jewellery, homewares and knick knacks store - and I defy any woman to visit without buying something! (URL HIDDEN) If you want a mega pamper experience or a fancy (expensive but good) meal try Bells at Killcare – a boutique hotel 5 mins drive up the hill, with an acclaimed restaurant Manfredis and good spa (URL HIDDEN) If you are wandering around Umina there is a range of basic beachy stores along the main strip and some funny $2 shops to pick up silly stuff for kids. There is also a big new Bunnings at Umina. Cafes and restaurants Various cafes at Hardy’s Bay are good for breakfast / lunch / dinner / coffee. Yum Yums is ok for dinner, seems popular. Not super kid friendly more for a nice adults dinner. The Hardy's Bay Club on Heath Road has a bistro which is an easy option as it's a short walk from the house. While the club isn't too glamorous, the food is ok (the steak can be delicious) and it's kid friendly with a little outdoor playhouse etc so you can actually eat your meal! Best to book in summer months (URL HIDDEN) Hardy's Bistro - the 'corner store' at Hardy's Bay is good for coffee and meals including dinner. There are rumours of a wine bar setting up there for the evening which I am very excited about!! They provide kids crayons and colouring in books etc (URL HIDDEN) The Fat Goose next door at Hardy's Bay is also good for breakfast / lunch / coffees and has a handy toy box also. Manfredi at Bells, Killcare is a very sophisticated restaurant just 5 mins up the hill and good for a special occasion (URL HIDDEN) La Fiamma – this is a surprisingly decent pizza restaurant at Ettalong that sometimes has live music in the little courtyard. Kid friendly, opens early, is licenced and good for a Friday or Sat night out if you want to explore a bit, it is in the Cinema Paradiso complex. Tel: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). (URL HIDDEN) Coast Cafe at Ettalong – white café on corner across road from the cinema complex. This is a good organic cafe, we often go here for lunch. A 2 mins walk from the Ettalong ferry stop. (URL HIDDEN) New Ettalong foreshore cafe Box on the Water – a good option for a good long family lunch right on the water - you can drive there but also take the ferry from Wagstaff (check timetable to get back!) - this is right on the Ettalong waterfront about 5 mins walk from the Ettalong Ferry wharf (heading towards Umina) - but book ahead. There is also a more casual outdoor cafe attached. The main restaurant looks onto the beach and some safe little shallows so you can linger at an outside table while the kids play on the sand / in water. This foreshore now also has some good playgrounds for kids and a good wide scooter / bike track. Umina Beach – if you kept walking or driving south along the waterfront from Ettalong you come to Ocean Beach and Umina Beach - these beaches (connected) are both great for little kids, with small rolling waves and shallow waters so fantastic spot for littlies to learn / practice their boogie boarding in non dumpy waves and shallow enough to stand up once they fall off their boards... fun! There is a car park and very simple (very simple...) cafe at Ocean Beach surf life saving club (Ocean Beach is between Ettalong and Umina beaches). There is a slightly more sophisticated café at Umina Beach surf club. Great big playground / cafes at Umina Beach - Umina Beach also has a big car park and a few other cafes to choose from. On the non beach side of the car park is a HUGE playground with large climbing frame, flying fox, climbing walls, skate park, outdoor gym equipment and also a fenced in sand pit / play ground for little kids (under 5 for eg). There is a café and a more serious sit down restaurant next to the playground - so a few options here. The movies! If it’s pouring and you are feeling housebound you could go to the movies at Ettalong (URL HIDDEN) which is 10 mins drive back across the Rip Bridge. Avoca also has quite a charming little cinema (URL HIDDEN) There is also a big mall / cinema complex at Erina Fair which is about 25 mins drive away. Even in poor weather, this tends to be a regretful excursion but bigger kids might like going to the mall and there are lots of shops and even an ice skating rink. Day Trips / Palm Beach ferry The Palm Beach ferry runs from nearby Wagstaff wharf to Ettalong then Palm Beach. It is a really beautiful trip, about half an hour on the ferry. Recently the timetable was changed so you can travel from Wagstaff to Ettalong and back on the ferry at certain times. Woo hoo! This can make a fun day trip to either Palm Beach (we usually then catch the connecting bus to Avalon – Routes 190, L90 – for lunch and shopping, lots of cafes and good shops here). At Palm Beach wharf you can also change to another little ferry which goes to the Basin, Mackerel Beach and other destinations. From the ferry stop at Palmie you can get a bus towards Palm Beach (sea side) also - on the way there is Cranky Finns restaurant and The Boathouse restaurant - I haven't been to either of these so would welcome any reviews! Plus Barrenjoey House is just across from the ferry wharf, also good for lunch. Or you can just pop over to Ettalong on the ferry (5 mins, $3 or so) and explore the new foreshore which has recently been redone with a good flat cycle / scooter / walking path, children’s playgrounds and a new cafe / take away stall on the waterfront (mentioned above). For example, you can catch the midday ferry from Wagstaff to Ettalong, then walk / go for swim at the beaches over that side – Ettalong / Ocean Beach / Umina, have lunch somewhere and get back to Ettalong Wharf for the 4pm ferry back to Wagstaff. This is a good option for kids as plenty for them to do and the surf at Ocean / Umina beaches is really small and gentle, perfect for littlies learning to boogie board. You can walk to Wagstaff wharf (15-20 mins or so) or drive and park near the wharf. DO CHECK the ferry timetable as times change and the timetable can be a bit confusing! - (URL HIDDEN)

We are always available to advise and give you a potted history and even geography of this area that we have so come to love; we really enjoy meeting people. The natural splendour of Bouddi National Park and its stunning walks is balanced by great eateries, boutiques and health/beauty spars. 'Bells' is just 700m up the road from us, so wedding or dining guests can combine the special occasion with a special stay. Getting AroundWell public transport isn't a feature of the area. We suggest that this venue is fairly car dependent, as although the main attractions are within walking distance, it is a bit hilly and the road quite narrow with no actual footpath! Most of the major bushwalks however can start and finish from at the house Other Things to NoteAs we tend to travel quite a bit, there could be a delay in response time to your enquiry (depending on Inet connection). Don't panic, we will make contact ASAP. There are many fun activities happening on the the Peninsular and we are happy to keep you informed.

Other Things to NoteBy accepting a reservation you automatically agree that we are NOT responsible for accidents, injuries or illness that may occur while on our property and most important when using our hot tub. Please bring your own beach towels & chairs and sun umbrella. ONE OTHER THING: It generally helps to put a clear photo of yourself in your Airbnb profile picture instead of one of your house pets or your favourite painting. In the end it is YOU that we welcome to our house and not your cat or a picture of your favourite beach :) Providing some form of verification with Airbnb (besides your email address and phone number) is also helpful to obtain a successful reservation. FAQ: Do we need to bring our own sheets and linen? No, we provide all bedding material and towels, BUT we do not iron our sheets :)

Spacious - 100 square metres - about 4 - 5 times the size of the standard 5 star hotel room. Ground floor apartment with easy access for seniors, yet sloping block allows glorious views of the bay. Tri-fold verandah doors effectively removing the lounge room wall facing the bay, bringing the outside in. Although the accommodation has two bedrooms and bedding for three, we only allow two people maximum out of respect for neighbours. The two bedrooms are for friends travelling wishing their own room and carries a single $60 surcharge. The kitchenette has is a full-sized fridge, single induction cooktop, electric frypan, microwave, Lavazza Modo Mio coffee machine, outdoors BBQ, and of course, kettle and toaster. Guest AccessYou have your own ground level apartment with your own entrance, private verandah and on-premises car spot. You also have sole use of the hedged outdoors bbq area with shaded lounge chairs. Interaction with GuestsI occasionally stay in another apartment on the premises and enjoy meeting guests, but am mindfully respectful of your privacy and peace. The great thing - you've got someone close by if you have any issues, plus unlike terraces/apartments/hotel rooms, you are assured there won't be loud music keeping you up at night. The NeighborhoodThe Three Bees is in a little friendly town called Hardy's Bay. The apartment is perfectly located in that it is a short walk to everything: the bay, excellent cafes and restaurants, a lovely long beach and the National Park with glorious views and secluded beaches. Getting AroundPlease note that Airbnb's map only shows the approximate location of places until bookings are confirmed--we are closer to the beach than shown. You won't need your car unless going out of the area. Some guests have also come over from Palm Beach via ferry. If we can arrange to be around during your arrival/departure, we happily can drive you to/from the ferry wharf. There is also a bus service to the wharf however it doesn't run on Sundays when guests typically check out.
