The SpaceI am a filmmaker and my partner is a theatre director. The house is designed by my niece who is an architect and we all share a passion for light and space. But in that space is an eclectic combination of styles so not ideal for anyone who seeks the continuity of decor you would find in a hotel or a 5-star guest house. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the beach, a lagoon, mountain walks, the rare Oyster Catcher that nests in the dunes, whales and dolphins in season and in the house comfort, long hot baths or an outside shower, cotton sheets, books and films, loads of room, access to the internet and satellite TV. Note: The sea view from the house is dependent on the winter North-westerly wind which annually shifts the dunes. There is always some view of the sea but we cannot guarantee how much. Interaction with GuestsInteraction between guests and ourselves only takes place over the internet or telephone. Our housekeeper Mapelo and Jacques our manager will attend to all your needs: meet you, give you the keys and show you around. Getting AroundThere is no public transport. Collection from the airport and some local tours can be organized through Jacques Racliffe at: (EMAIL HIDDEN) If guests wish to explore the surrounding areas of Hangklip, Betty's Bay, Kleinmond, the botanical gardens, the penguin colony, Hermanus...they should have a car. However, A 15-minute walk from the house takes you to the village of Pringle Bay which is home to a number of restaurants, cafes, a fabulous delicatessen, artists' studios, a bookshop and other small shops. The SpaceThis is a happy house where our 5 children have grown up and where they now take their families. Can receive a few additional guests and caters well for those big Christmas lunches but equally enjoyed by just the two of us with good food and a few books. Guest AccessJust one cupboard is off limits but the rest is yours. We used to take a whole lot of stuff away when we rented out, but the house lost its personality so now we rent it is as we use it. There is a paddle ski and slightly overused pool table in the garage. Interaction with GuestsWe live in Cape Town itself so would not be there. The house is looked after by Maphelo who also cares for two other family houses in the same road. We are always available on phone or mail to talk through anything or to advise on what could be done in the area The NeighborhoodThe village has a small permanent population which grows significantly on weekends and holidays. Nice atmosphere with very welcoming shopkeepers and general services. Getting AroundYou will need a car to both get to Pringle Bay and then to enjoy the area, Kleinmond and Hermanus are additional towns we visit frequently for either restaurants or shopping. The Hemel and Aarde Valley has wine farms and restaurants and is the preferred Pinot Noir growing area. Other Things to NotePretty much everything that you would need is in the house and we are a call away if there is something lacking.

The SpacePringle bay is the perfect getaway place. It is far away from the city to escape but close enough to drive in for a day trip. My house is large, open and clean. Guest AccessGuests can use the gym equipment, Sauna, the kitchen and various kayak's, fishing equipment or even sandboards for the local dunes. Interaction with GuestsI travel frequently. If in town, as much as they want to. I have a friend who stays in the house when I am away who will also interact if you want company. Join us for some wine, a fresh fish of the fire and good conversation if you like. The NeighborhoodThere are no streetlights in the town. With only one road into the village, it is without doubt one of the most crime-free places in South Africa. The restaurants in the town include a great Pizza joint, upmarket bistro, great seafood place and 2 nice coffee shops. A local deli sells everything you could need to cook and their wine selection is outstanding. Getting AroundNo public transport but car rental in inexpensive and the best way to travel and see the area. Other Things to NoteThe Master bedroom upstairs is yours if I am away. The downstairs bedroom is the fallback if I am also there. I tend to accept bookings when I am away giving you more space and privacy. Both bedrooms have an additional single bed for kids. The third bedroom downstairs is kept for Francois, a friend who travels for 3 months and returns for 2.

Guest AccessGuests have access to the whole house, but please look after it as if it is your own house. Interaction with GuestsI will be contactable at all times, but not on the premises. Someone will welcome guests and explain everything and someone will be there for check-out. The NeighborhoodPringle Bay is a convenient drive from Cape Town and the Cape Town International Airport (1 hour) along Clarence Drive, one of the most scenic coastal drives in the world. Pringle Bay boasts a beautiful, white sandy beach, great hiking and good restaurants. Harold Porter Botanical Garden is 10 minutes away in Betty's Bay. The roads are good and there is ample parking at the Fynbos House. Other Things to NoteWiFi can be arranged at an additional cost depending upon the length of stay. The SpaceFor the 3 bedrooms the booking must be for the apartment and studio together. The spaces are then linked by an interleading staircase. Guest AccessBiosphere Reserves are areas of terrestrial and coastal eco-systems which are internationally recognised within the framework of the United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation's (UNESCO's) Man and Biosphere Programme. Collectively, they constitute a World Network. They are nominated by national governments and must meet a minimal set of criteria and adhere to a minimal set of conditions before being admitted into the World Network. Each Biosphere Reserve remains under the sovereignty of the State where it is situated and submits to State legislation. Biosphere Reserves are designed to meet one of the most challenging issues facing our World today: How to preserve the biodiversity of plants, animals and micro-organisms which make up our ‘living biosphere' and maintain healthy systems while, at the same time, meet the material needs and aspirations of an increasing number of people. The NeighborhoodIt is perhaps easier to recount what the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve does NOT offer like traffic lights, casinos and cinemas …although these are all available within a short drive! What the KBR does offer is a place to escape from city-life and relax in nature at its best. It is a haven where you can breathe fresh sea breezes and orchard blossoms, drink in spectacular scenery and develop a taste for exploring the fynbos kingdom. Stroll our beaches…tick off a host of endemic birds…marvel at some of the 8 600 species of plants that make up the Cape Floral Kingdom…go river rafting…sand-surf down one of the highest dunes in South Africa…catch yourself a crayfish…watch a 40 ton Southern Right whale hurtle its body out of the sea…and that's just the beginning! Over and above glorious mountain biking and hiking trails, the rugged terrain and Cape of Storms winds can provide some exciting eco-adventures from brown-river rafting to sandboarding SA's highest dunes. Choose your adventure! When conditions are right, colourful para-gliding canopies can be seen hanging in the blue skies along mountain faces from Rooi Els to Hermanus. Other Things to NoteThe Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve is the Heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom; by far the smallest but richest of the World's six Floral Kingdoms! The Cape Floral Kingdom has 9 087 different plant species of which 6 218 are endemic (found no where else in the world). To put this in perspective, the British Isles has just 20 endemics! The biosphere is a photographer's dream come true! Magnificent seascapes and sunsets, towering mountains and fast changing weather…and often 50 different flowers within a 500-metre stroll!
