The SpaceThis is a year-round home in Gore Bay, situated on the north end of town. It is quiet and peaceful, has beautiful views of the waterfront and the East Bluffs on the other side of the bay. However, it is a brief 5-minute walk into town for groceries, the pharmacy, coffee shop, restaurants, and the bank. The house is well equipped with all linens, coffee maker, kettle, microwave, TV and DVD player. If you are not familiar with Ontario north of cottage country, I highly recommend spending a little time with (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Maps looking at distances and driving times between Gore Bay and where you want to visit. Although we are centrally located, the island is deceptively large and driving is slower on these country roads than on major highways, especially in winter when snow and ice can cause dangerous conditions. Also, be aware that businesses are not open long hours, and the grocery store and and restaurants are not open late, especially in the winter. If you're not sure, just ask, and I'll be happy to help you! A note to European guests; a double bed in Canada is 137cm wide, which may not be as wide as you are used to. You may wish to check to make sure you will be comfortable. Guest AccessYou will have the entire house to yourself. There is parking for several cars, and more parking available at the marina. Interaction with GuestsI am currently in Ottawa completing some advanced studies at Carleton, but my parents live ten minutes away from the house and take good care of it, and our guests. They will meet you at the house when you arrive, and during your visit they are easily reachable by phone, text, or email. The NeighborhoodGore Bay is a small, friendly town of about 800 people. The marina is convenient for boaters in the North Channel. The central location of town makes it convenient to drive anywhere from the historic lighthouse at Meldrum Bay (about an hour's drive), the Cup and Saucer hiking trail (a half-hour drive), or the Wikwemikong pow-wow (in August, 1.25 hour drive). Getting AroundThere is no public transit, but cycling is a common pursuit on the island due to its relatively flat landscape. Other Things to NoteThere is parking for several cars.

The SpaceEnjoy your own waterfront cottage; relax or barbeque on your deck overlooking a beautiful view. You will be staying on an island in scenic McGregor Bay, surrounded by miles of sheltered waterways. Sample a little piece of paradise that is remote, but easily accessible. You will feel like you are worlds away from the hustle and bustle of every day life, but McGregor Bay is close to major highways and within a day's drive of many cities in Canada and the U.S. Get back to nature for serenity and fun. Hike quartzite mountains, rock climb secluded shorelines, pick wild blueberries and raspberries, or fish for bass, pike, muskie and rainbow trout. Photograph or paint your scenic surroundings. You will be staying in an ideal central location for day trips around the bay. The log cottage has the following sleeping accommodations, which can sleep 12. One queen size bed in the main bedroom and two bunk beds, one double bed, two single beds all in separate bedrooms. Additional beds in sun porch. The log building has lots of history where famous people have visited over the years. In its glory President Roosevelt visited in 1943. The Newmans were said to visit frequently as they were friends of the owners. The kitchen has an electric stove, coffee maker, fridge, freezer and toaster. There is also a propane barbecue. Living room boasts a big rock fireplace which heats the building.. Water is pumped to the cottage by electric pump. There is a large electric hot water tank. The water is filtered but we do recommend boiling it or bringing bottled drinking water. The cottage is serviced by a large septic system and has normal indoor plumbing. There are games and playing cards. There is a canoe and 5 kayaks supplied with the cottage. Remember to bring your fishing gear as fishing in the area is very good. Bass and pike are the most common fish caught locally. We provide basic cleaning materials and request you leave the cottage in a clean condition for the next renters. We request a $450 cleaning /security deposit which is refundable. Guest AccessMainland parking areas at Birch Island, Ontario, off Hwy. 6 between Espanola and Little Current. Property is located on Iroquois Island in McGregor Bay. McGregor Bay, Ontario, is a particularly beautiful, rugged area. The Group of Seven chose to create many of their spellbinding portrayals of the Canadian Shield here and in other nearby areas. Surrounded by the white quartzite of the Killarney Mountains, the Bay is dotted with islands and shoals that make a wonderful scenic vacation setting for those who enjoy an unspoiled northern experience. Cottaging in McGregor Bay is unlike the "gentrified" version experienced in more southern areas of Ontario. Island living requires an independent and self-reliant outlook. All your supplies are carried in by boat, and once you're there, you won't feel like going out to a convenience store just for a loaf of bread. Access by boat is provided by water taxi at 1 of the 2 Marina's on Birch Island. Parking and water taxi is provided by the Marina for a fee. Interaction with GuestsAlthough we do have neighbors, you feel you have the place to yourself. Most of the land is Crown Land, and you may freely explore any island that has not been built upon. 98% of the shoreline is wild. Wildlife shares the Bay with us. You will enjoy watching them, but please do not feed or interfere with them. Beaver and mink will swim by the dock. Waterfowl are abundant. Loons dive for fish all day long, and their strange cries will fascinate you virtually every night. Ducks, cormorants, gulls, terns, Canada geese and the Great Blue Heron live a successful existence in the Bay. You will thrill to watching birds of prey on the hunt. Various hawks, golden eagles and even a bald eagle soar for hours on the wind currents. Bring binoculars. People in the Bay enjoy a relaxed pace of life. They tend to create their own amusements. You can have an easy climb in the nearby Killarney Mountains, journey for a picnic at Red Sand Beach, sail in the stronger breezes of the Outer Bay, or paddle your canoe in sheltered bays and channels. Of course the fisherman will enjoy casting for smallmouth bass, trolling for walleye and northern pike, or just still fishing for yellow perch. You should also count on catching up on your reading.  Peace and tranquility are aspects mentioned by every visitor. There is a spiritual aspect to walking through the cathedrals of whispering white pines. The totally dark sky will amaze you on a clear night. You have never seen so many stars, sparkling right down to the horizon, and the family will enjoy counting meteors. At McGregor Bay, people discover their contemplative side, and come away with their energies recharged. Residents feel uniquely privileged to share this special place with nature.

CLEANING: We provide a cleaning person at the end so that you can just walk away though if you prefer to clean and save $100 let us know.

We currently have 2 cottages, sharing about 57 acres of property and 900+ feet of shoreline. The second, White Pine Vista Cottage, is over 300 feet away and we left a buffer of trees and brush in between the cottages to act as a privacy buffer. The cottage is located 66ft from the high water mark (as close as legally allowed for the area). There are horse shoe pits, a sand box and about a quarter acre of lawn at the cottage. There is a dock, with a buoy offshore for tying up a boat (the cottage comes with a canoe for getting out to the buoy and back). Lots of people, of all ages, have enjoyed swimming out front of the cottage over the years. The cottage works well for multiple families or large families and this cottage can be booked with the one we have next door (about a 400 feet to the East, the closest neighbouring cottage to the east). COTTAGE LAYOUT (there is a video walkthrough on our own website just do an Internet search for discovervr eagle view. It should be the first listing.) MAIN FLOOR BATHROOM This is a 4 piece (tub, shower, toilet, sink). We have at least one blow dryer in this cottage. MAIN FLOOR MASTER BEDROOM A queen size bed, dresser, night tables, lamps, closet BUNK BED BEDROOM Twin (single) bunk beds. Note: The shoreline is about 15" above lake level. There are a set of stairs leading down to the water but it is possible to also walk directly from cottage level down to the lake level down a limestone path on the shoreline. There is a video on our personal site of the shoreline. THe cottage is a fantastic place to spend time in every season. Summer is what you would expect from a typical Ontario cottage. Generally nice weather and the lake is a great place to hang out. Fall/Autumn you will experience the fall colours. This usually happens around the last week of September to early October. The bird migration and Salmon spawning are great nature activities to witness. Winter, you can cross country ski, snowmobile, ice fish. I'm always amazed at all of the animal tracks that show up shortly after a fresh snowfall. Spring brings the bird migration back. Great to witness in early spring around mid-April as the edges of the lake thaw as that is where large populations of water fowl hang out during the migration. Rainbow trout spawn in the spring and that is a spectacle to see them jumping up streams. We reserve the right to limit booking nights or change rates prior to acceptance of a booking. 13% HST will be added to all stays less than 4 weeks in length. Prices are subject to change without notice (once you’ve booked though your price is locked in. The tax may change, subject to the whims of the government (they adjust it every decade or two and usually April 1, or July 1), even after a confirmed deposit, up until your stay). For deposit and cancellation information please see the bottom of this page. *During deer season (3rd week of November) the price is $900.00 minimum for 1 or 2 people and an additional $450.00/person over 2 people with 6 people max. Last minute rates may be considered based on the length of your stay. Great for a romantic weekend for those who live in the Sudbury, Espanola area. For the summer the minimum rental length is one week from Saturday to Saturday. For Christmas/New Years the minimum rental length is 5 nights. Manitoulin Island Cottage Rental Availability: Saturday to Saturday rentals during High Season (see above schedule for High Season dates, generally mid June to long weekend in Sept): Check in, Check out times: Check out by 9:00 AM, check in not before 3:00 PM and preferably before 7:00 PM, or make special arrangements. White Pine Vista – pets are allowed in the main family room area, kitchen, hallway, laundry area and possibly the master bedroom. We would ask that pets still not go in any room that has carpeting. If you are allergic to certain animals and are concerned about allergies we may no longer have a cottage for you. We will continue to buy non-allergenic materials for bedding, and building materials when we can. We charge $60.00 extra/pet/week or less. This is due to the fact that there is more likely to be scratches, wear and tear and higher cleaning fees with pets. We also ask that the pets stay off of the furniture/beds. We also reserve the right to charge for any damage done by a pet. CANCELLATION POLICY Of course we hope you don’t have to change your vacation plans. However, please take note of the following in case changes are unavoidable. Once booked there are no refunds. Once you reserve we block off these dates for you and no one else is able to book. This room has a queen size bed. A bookshelf with games/puzzles. There is a closet and a large window looking towards the west. Being winterized, the cottage is a great place all year around. Summer is typical lake side cottage living. Fall/Autumn is great to take in the change of leaves. This event tends to happen around the last week of September to early October but changes based on when the cooler weather arrives. There are a number of nature activities at this time of year (leaves, salmon run, bird migration). In the winter take advantage of snowmobiling, cross country skiing, ice fishing. We will provide a hut for ice fishing but otherwise you need to bring your own equipment for all of the various winter sporting activities. Enjoy the various animal tracks after a fresh snowfall (from mice to rabbits and deer and others there are usually a number of tracks in the snow). Spring brings the bird migration to the island. It is awesome to see the lake edges where large populations of water fowl spend time during the migration. You'll likely see a lot of birds you don't see further south. Rainbow trout swim upstream to spawn at this time. Rates displayed here are for 1 to 6 people. There will be additional charges for the 7th and 8th person. The SpaceHalf the house with private bedroom with a double bed, and studio bedroom with a double bed that overlooks Mudge Bay. Its outside that is what this place is about. Location, location, location!!! A stunning view over the bay, sunsets over the water, swimming and fishing a barefoot walk away. The only reason you will desire to go inside is to sleep, shower, change, make snacks etc. You have a large open studio concept room/bedroom living area and a more private room Guest AccessYou have access to a small bar fridge which is stocked with DIY breakfast and snack items. There is no cooking oven in the space itself, but there is access to a BBQ, and whatever pots and pans you may require. If you need to use my kitchen as invariably it happens on some stays...I need warning so I can at least have it clean when you need it. You have your own deck area to lounge and have a fire. A hammock to relax on. There is a public beach with slides, swings etc 400m away. There is beach access right out front that is rarely used by anybody but us! Boat launch 200m away and the dock in front is about 4' deep for boats. Interaction with GuestsI am usually working around the house, and if you need help with your fishing line, need fire or wood for grill, just ask. The NeighborhoodIts a very quiet street in a sleepy town. A short walk from the Chocolate factory and about 1.5 km away from gas, sundries and LCBO. Getting AroundYou have to have your own vehicle and if you are coming to the island, you likely do. Activities and recreation are within walking distance. Kayaks, stand up paddle boards and bicycles can be rented across the bay from our friend and neighbor who owns North Wind Adventures. Other Things to NoteYour area has privacy, however, there are no walls doors but barriers and I am at the opposite end of the house. .The private bedroom has a door so you can always close that! The house is clean and amenable. A shared kitchen is not an amenity, but in a pinch I can and have offered to guests, but I need warning as its not typically prepared for guest use...meaning cleaned for guests. I just don't want people coming into my dirty kitchen, who does? In terms of animals, I am between pets, and all pets are welcome in my home. Sometimes I get unwanted visitors, mice or chipmunks mostly. I get rid of them pretty quickly, Its a part of living here.
