The SpaceAs mentioned in the summary, this house was built in the 1860's. It was built before indoor plumbing or electricity, though I'm proud to say we now offer both! The space is a bit unusual, but the bedrooms are very large, the bathroom is clean and has plenty of room to move around. There are several places to relax whether it's in the country style kitchen, living room or on the front porch. There is high-speed wireless internet, but no cable or satellite TV. The accommodations are not fancy or modern, but they are clean, and the road is quiet aside from the occasional passing horse and buggy. There is one dog that shares the space who is very well trained, quiet, and respectful with humans. He doesn't love other dogs, but he will share his house with them as well. While the house sits on two acres, it is attached to a 60 acre farm with horses, cattle, and sheep. You can walk to the back of our property and get a glimpse of the horses in the evening and if you'd like I'm happy to walk you down to meet them in person. For safety reasons, I require to be present when visiting the large animals, but you're welcome to otherwise enjoy from a distance. The house does NOT have central air conditioning, but there are AC units in each bedroom during warmer months and one downstairs so it stays nice and cool even in the summer. In the winter it stays pretty cozy and warm with oil heat, though I can wheel in a space heater if you'd like your bedroom a little warmer. Guest AccessYou have access to pretty much the entire house except the other bedroom (which is across the hall). It's a small, quirky old house, but it has a nice, big eat-in kitchen, a comfy living room, a large bathroom, and a great porch out front perfect for a morning coffee, an evening drink, or just eating outside. There is a small library as well and you're welcome to peruse the shelves, just be prepared for a lot of sci-fi, fantasy and non-fiction books. I'm happy to give a recommendation! If you need to do laundry, there's a great washer and dryer in the mud room and you're welcome to use the available detergent as well! Everything in the kitchen is available for use if you like to cook and if you need help finding something, just let me know. I'm happy to share staples (milk, butter, sugar, etc) to save you on shopping. There's breakfast tea available in the morning, chamomile available at night, and Keurig coffee maker if you'd like to bring some K-cups of your own. Interaction with GuestsI work six days a week, but I work on the same farm attached to the house with flexible hours. I'm never more than a text away and if you're up for a cup of tea around 7:30-8:30 in the morning, I'm happy to share! Beyond this, I tend to keep to myself but I'm happy to point you in the right direction for shopping or food, etc. I can offer somewhat unusual tales of riding wild horses in the world's longest horse race across Mongolia if given a nudge, though it's on you once I get started. My office is in the space you have to walk through to reach the bathroom. I will often be sitting here working or relaxing. I'm not trying to be rude if I don't seem to have time to talk. It often means I'm just working or involved in something that requires my full attention. The NeighborhoodStaying in my house you'll find you are situated on a pretty quiet and rural street. The neighbors across the street, next door, and around the corner are Amish. They are lovely people, polite, kind, and often selling veggies or flowers if you have a desire for such things, but please respect their privacy and refrain from taking pictures where their faces are visible. I'm happy to answer any questions I can about their culture during your stay. If you sit on our porch long enough or drive down the road, you're bound to see some buggies or carts go by. There is a country store a mile down the road with a deli, small kitchen, convenience and hardware store, and a great pizza place caddycorner to it. Otherwise, do not expect major shopping or restaurants close by. Oxford is just a 10-15 minute drive away however with a few stores and restaurants, and Lancaster is about 35 minutes away. Kennet Square is 30 minutes away as well and has some upscale dining as well as local attractions like Longwood Garden. Getting AroundThere is NO public transportation, so make sure you bring or rent a car! There is an Enterprise about 7 miles away. Other Things to NoteThere is one dog on the property that lives in the house. He does go to work with me during the day and is rarely left alone. I guarantee the house will be freshly vacuumed and you'll have freshly laundered linens on the bed, but please understand dogs shed and it's very difficult to keep things perfect at all times. If interested in bringing your pet, please contact me in advance as there is an additional fee.

The SpaceWe are renting a small suite. There is a separate sitting area with a propane fireplace, and a unique private bath (look at the pictures). The space is on the lower level. It faces out to a patio and forest which you can see from inside through the glass doors. Disclaimer: Because we are in a small forest in southern Lancaster County, there is almost no TV (there is one channel), and the wifi internet is slow (1.3 mbps). If you want 101 cable TV channels and/or blazing internet speed, you might want to consider a different Airbnb. Guest AccessGuests have access to their space from a separate private entrance (we use another door). Guest also have access to a ground level patio which is directly outside of their room, and a first floor deck. Both face into the forest. Please note that the entrance to the guest area is at the rear of the property and you need to walk on a path that is lined with large stones (see photo). It is not accessible by wheelchair or the walking impaired. If any questions about this, just send a message via Airbnb Interaction with GuestsGenerally we work Monday through Friday from 9 am to 6 pm, however one of us can be available if needed The NeighborhoodWe are off the road in a small forest. The surrounding neighborhood is rural, including several Amish farms close by. It is not unusual to see the fields being tilled by horse drawn equipment (in season), as well as various styles of Amish buggies along the road. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation available, as it is a very rural setting. It is best to have a car, although we possibly can provide transportation to and from Lancaster City, which is where we work. Other Things to Note(1) We have a small dog. When we have Airbnb guests, we keep him on the third level (you are on the first level). You probably won't even know he is there. (2) Neighbors on one side have two twenty-something boys who have big pick-up trucks that sometimes go up the driveway fast and noisy. It is not often, and lasts for 30 seconds, but we make this disclaimer since we advertise our rental as "Quiet Forest Setting" (which it is 99.99% of the time).

The SpaceYou have private use of the main and upper levels of the home. Murray Hill was constructed in 1989 with 1,350 square feet on the main and master bedroom levels. Your host, Mark, resides in the separate walkout basement level. This house is nicely secluded from the road, nested at the edge of the woods, and at the same time positioned near many attractions. It is a great home to return to after a busy day. The kitchen has all new appliances (refrigerator, microwave, range, and dishwasher) and is nicely furnished for a very pleasant stay. The house has new LED lighting, comfortable furniture, and lots of natural light. Guest AccessYou have private access to the main and upper level of the house. The main level includes the living room, dining room, kitchen, half bath, and laundry room on the main level. The upper level consists of the master bedroom and full bath. The master bedroom has a window A/C unit for your comfort in addition to a new ceiling fan and light fixture that is controlled remotely. Your host resides in the lower level. The lower level is isolated from the rest of the house and has a separate entrance. Interaction with GuestsMark is available to assist during your stay. The NeighborhoodMurray Hill is far from the road and nestled at the edge of the woods on a hill that overlooks farmland. While you can hear the Strasburg railroad engines at times, you will love being surrounded by the sounds of nature. Getting AroundWe have prepared list of local attractions and you will find this waiting for you upon your arrival. Kent, my brother, loves to the see the area via bicycle and motorcycle. I prefer to drive my car. Everything is very close and easy to access by any wheeled means of transportation. Other Things to NoteThe new queen bed has just been placed in a custom, Amish hand-crafted, cedar log bed frame (July 2016). While the house is non-smoking, the home had been lived in at one time by a smoking family. We have worked hard to clean and neutralize odors; however, you may still encounter residual odor from time to time, and if you do please let us know. We are non-smokers and also stay in the upper part of the house when it is not occupied otherwise. We have found the odors to be nearly neutralized, but is not yet perfect.
