Here, herds of llamas roam freely and local guides can walk you through the incredible landscape and history of this special place, where every June locals come to celebrate the Inti Raymi, a festival celebrating the passage of the sun. • 30 - minute drive to the Mojanda temperate jungle that still has some virgin forest is unique in the world and can be reached by car in • One and a half hours to Mindo • 3-10 kilometers (2-6 miles) away there are two small towns Puéllaro, with an old colonial church and a “new” church built 100 years ago, basic food and house supplies, ice cream and typical food at "Rincón Puellareño”; and Perucho with a colonial church built with wood from Mojanda and a rich collection of art works. • A short drive away is a small pyramid built by the French Geodesic Mission that measured the Equator and the roundness of the world in the 18th century. From that point you see most of what used to be my great-grandparents’ farm, which was 3.000 hectares (7.500 acres), covering a territory ranging from 1.600 meters to 2.700 meters above sea level. The history: The house and the farm have been in our familiy for five generations. Prior to that, it had belonged to a leading “criollo” (Spanish born in America) family, whose ancestor received it directly from the king of Spain when the Catholic congregation of Jesuit missionaries that owned the land were forced to abandon the Spanish empire. Until then, the land had been the property of one of Atahualpa’s (last Inca emperor) daughters ever since the Incas conquered the area after they beat the Cañaris around the year 1500. Guest AccessThe house is 300 square meters (3.300 square feet) for leisure and comfort. • Five bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms Room 1 - Queen sized bed, bathroom + small home office Room 2 - Queen sized bed + bathroom Room 3 (double bedroom) - Two twin sized beds with trundle The bathroom is shared with Room 4 across the hallway. You can pick all the lemons, limes, sweet limes, oranges, avocados and Andean walnuts you want, and for a nominal fee (paid to and kept by the caretaker) you can have fresh milk and eggs from free-range hens. • 19th century grain mill, with a three-floor height and built without metal or cement. • Upper part of the farm which is now a pine plantation. • Large collection of about 400 English and Spanish books. • Other facilities: cable TV, internet, washer - Reservations for three or more nights receive complimentary transportation to and from the airport (only). - I can arrange housekeeping service. Our housekeeper can clean, wash your clothes in the washer, hang your clothes, help you cook and do dishes. - Permanent acces to our grounds keeper for anything from a walk around the hacienda to a bonfire. - I can arrrange for massages (based on Abyangah or sports massage) or Bach Flowers consultations. Sirah is the person who gives this service. She speaks English and is truly amazing at what she does. Interaction with Guests- I live in Quito but Manuel, the groundskeeper lives at the hacienda and is available if you need anything. - I am constantly checking my Airbnb account so if you need anything send me a message. There is also a land line at the hacienda so Manuel can call me in case of an emergency. The NeighborhoodWith more than five hectares sorrounding the main house, you are you own neighborhood! Getting Around- We can help you book transportation for the day or for your whole stay. - You can also catch public buses passing by the front door. Manuel, our groundskeeper can inform you of the schedules and destinations. - If you prefer to rent a car you can park inside the hacienda. Other Things to NoteA bit of Spanish - or help from (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Translate - should come in handy for communicating with our groundskeeper Manuel. Goold old hand and facial gestures too. In Ecuador you may not find things you regularly use such as packaged food. If you think you will miss one of theses things I recommend you bring it along.
