The SpacePrivate double room on the ground floor of our home, which is set in 3 acres of lovely gardens between the Abel Tasman National Park and the Kahurangi National Park. There is a double bed, two bedside tables with reading lights, a mirror and hooks for clothes and a wardrobe for clothes and suitcase storage. The bed and pillows are new, and comfy, and we provide towels and all linen.
We are 5 minutes walk from the sea, and 5 minutes drive from the quirky little town of Takaka, for lively cafe culture, the arts and good shopping.
Our home lies down a 200m long tree lined drive, and is very private and peaceful. Amazing open views of the Kahurangi National Park from the property, with glimpses of the sea.
Great tourist area, with many natural beauty spots. Much to see and do if you love the countryside and beaches. Walking on the beach, tramping in the National Parks (Abel Tasman Coastal Track & Heaphy Track), sea kayaking, horse riding, fishing, surfing, scenic flights and wildlife tours are all available in Golden Bay.
We are happy to provide you with a free healthy breakfast of homemade muesli, fruits, juices, yoghurt and toast with homemade preserves.
If required, we will provide a home cooked hearty evening meal with the family, at $25 per person. We have a guest refrigerator for your picnic foods, but sorry no cooking or kitchen facilities.
We look forward to meeting you! Guest AccessYour room is accessed from our front door, and then along a private corridor to your space. This space comprises your double bedroom, separate private toilet, and private bathroom with shower and corner bathtub. A hairdryer, bathmat and facecloths are also provided. Interaction with GuestsPatrick and I will be available during your stay to help with any travel queries that you may have, but we are sensitive to our guests needs, and will interact with you as much or as little as you want. Our bedrooms and bathrooms are upstairs, maintaining your privacy, and our homely lounge/diner is downstairs, which you are welcome to share. We may be watching a movie, working, reading or listening to music, whatever, you are welcome to join us.
But we haven't mentioned the deck yet! Our lovely outside space leads directly off the lounge, with expansive views over our 3 acres of gardens, with glimpses of the sea. Have a swing in the hammock, a lounge on the chairs, or move your breakfast outside, to eat with the company of the birds. Our deck with its beautiful views and serene atmosphere has been known to change guests lives! (more on that, if you want, during your visit!) The NeighborhoodOur neighbourhood is a mix of lifestyle blocks by the sea, meandering down a coastal lane, 7 kms from Takaka. We enjoy a good community spirit, and total peace and privacy. Getting AroundThere is very limited public transport in Golden Bay. There is a bus twice a day to Nelson, 2 hours away. There is also a bus to the Abel Tasman National Park, and Heaphy Track, but with limited times. Golden Bay Air fly to and from Wellington daily, and to the south end of the Kahurangi National Park.
We can provide tailor made tours to enable you to explore Golden Bay, and can also provide airport transfers from Nelson or Golden Bay airport, if you prefer not to use a hire car. It can be confusing driving on the left side for those not used to it! We can show you lesser known, non-tourist areas of Golden Bay. For details, please contact us. Other Things to NoteOur son is home this year on University holidays, but as he is working hard in the kiwi orchards, his day is long, so unfortunately you wont see much of him. You might be lucky enough to persuade him to play his guitar on our occasional night bonfire evenings where you are welcome to join us toasting marshmallows, sharing a drink and slowly slowly watching the night sky turn into a spangle of thousands of incredible stars, the southern cross and the milky way clearly visible due to the total lack of light pollution.
