The SpaceThe unique benefits of this property is the location and size. It truly is the best of both worlds. It is walking distance to the sandbar at the South end of Torch Lake, but It doesn't have the small lot and close neighbors that comes along with lake front properties. The other awesome benefit is that this property is just a short drive to other tourist destinations like Elk Rapids and Traverse City. If you are looking for a very active vacation it is also a central location for a lot of other Northern Michigan tourist locations. Sleeping Bear Dunes is only an hour and 15 minutes to the West, Leelanau Peninsula is and hour and a half Northwest, Old Mission Peninsula is only a half hour along with Traverse City, to the Northeast is Charlevoix, Petoskey, and Machinaw City that are roughly 45 minutes, and hour and 15 minutes, and 2 hours away. I promise that you will not get bored staying this close to Torch Lake and so many other beautiful Northern Michigan attractions. Interaction with GuestsI grew up here so if guests have any questions at all or need any suggestions I will be available to contact during your stay.

Sitting on 2.5 acres and 100 ft of frontage on Rapid River this large log home is within paddling distance to the famous Torch Lake sandbar. You get the best of both worlds with this property. You can feel like you are a million miles away from everything yet still being so close. We are at a point in the river where no more motorized vehicles can pass so it is quiet and peaceful. Around the corner is the sandbar where you can anchor for the day, grab a burger at the Burger Barge or even order a pizza to be delivered to your boat from Fabianos. The Elk River Chain of Lakes Watershed is a seventy-five mile-long waterway consisting of fourteen lakes and connecting rivers including what National Geographic ranked the third most beautiful lake in the world: Torch Lake. We are also near many snowmobile and ORV trail heads as well as a short drive to several ski resorts. If shopping, restaurants, golf, wineries and breweries are what you desire we are just a 20-minute drive into Traverse City. There are beautiful hiking and snowshoeing trails out the back door or just minutes away in the National Forest, Skegemog or Grass River Natural Areas or Sand Lakes Quiet Area. The name “Torch Lake” was derived from translation from the Ojibwa name Was-wa-gon-ong meaning 'Place of the Torches', referring to the practice of the local Native American population who once used torches at night to attract fish for harvesting. We felt it was fitting to name our home “Noopiming” which is Ojibwa for “in the woods”. Noopiming is large and open. Upstairs there is a large master with stained glass windows, skylights, king size bed and an en suite full bathroom with jet tub. Outside of the master is a large loft with a second living area and a trundle bed. On the main level, adjacent to the 2nd full bath, is a bedroom room with a full size bed. One more bedroom rests at the foot of the stairs with a bunk bed (full on the bottom and twin on top). All bedrooms have dressers, closets with hangers and ceiling fans. We provide all bedding, pillows, bath towels, kitchen towels and beach towels. The full size kitchen is equipped with anything you would need during your stay. The downstairs living room has a 40” TV with blu-ray player and WiFi. We have a library of DVD’s for you to use as well as books and games. Please feel free to ask us any questions. It is always a bummer to show up for a well-earned vacation and feel like what you are renting is not what you saw in pictures.
