The SpaceWe affectionately call our house "Redbird," as dubbed by our then-5-year-old when we moved here in the middle of winter, our new home's cozy appearance cheering us amidst the milky-white snow drifts. Redbird is perched on a quiet street and is nestled against one of Red Wing's iconic bluffs. We've given the bedroom a significant facelift, yet you can expect some aspects of the Guest Nest to be a bit more "groovy." However, it's comfortable and clean and we think you will enjoy it. There is a large window in the family room that lets in a lot of warm morning light—our favorite part about that room, especially considering it's a basement!
Our main amenities include a mini fridge, microwave, Keurig and K-cups (regular and decaf coffee), wireless internet, and Apple TV. Towels and bedding are provided. Tap water from the bathroom sink and utility sink is city water, suitable for drinking. Guest AccessCheck-in at 4:00 PM; check-out at 11:00 AM.
You will have your own separate entrance through the garage. Interaction with GuestsA quiet night's rest and privacy is our #1 goal for you. We have three children, with various activities in and out of the house. When we're home at Redbird, you may hear us sometimes during the day, but our bedtimes are normal and we value tranquility for sleeping as much as you do.
Please know, especially to first-time Airbnb users, that there is no requirement to say hello to us! We really enjoy meeting our guests, and attempt to do so if at all possible, but there is no obligation on your part. :) The NeighborhoodRed Wing is a small, peaceful town. We live on a quiet street and street parking is almost always available. Our neighbors watch out for each other. There is a kids' playground just two blocks away and a picturesque cemetery a block & steep hill away (i.e.: a great workout). Getting AroundGetting around by car is by far the easiest method, although biking to & around downtown is simple. Red Wing does have a taxi service, although we don't have personal experience using it. Other Things to NoteRed Wing is approximately an hour from Minneapolis/St. Paul and, in the other direction, Rochester.
Some favorite local spots in the area: Bay Point Park (beautiful walking path and playground next to the Mississippi), Colvill Park (an amazing universal playground), Colvill Pool/Waterpark, Barn Bluff, Memorial Park, and Cannon Valley Trail. (Can you tell that we really like Red Wing's parks?)
The Things To Do tab on the City of Red Wing website is a wonderful resource for recreational and cultural activities.
Downtown Red Wing is chock full of shopping adventures and treats—Red Wing Shoe Store & Museum, the Confectionary, the charming Uff-Da Norwegian shop, the Veranda at the Saint James Hotel—and don't forget about the Farmer's Market on Saturdays at the Train Depot during the summer.
