The NeighborhoodWe are in the Connecticut countryside a little over an hour from NYC, 45 minutes to New Haven and right off the historic Route 7 Antique Trail. Although our home is officially in the town of Weston, this neighborhood is known as Georgetown and was the site of a mill-town years ago. Georgetown has maintained its local flavor with a tiny Main Street filled with restaurants and bars. There's a terrific family-owned grocery store that rivals Whole Foods, and all the other amenities of a small town just down the street. Getting AroundThe Branchville train station (Metro North Danbury line runs direct to NYC in the AM and back in the PM, otherwise requires a change in Stamford or South Norwalk) is about a mile away. We are happy to pick up / drop off guests at the train, but recommend a car for getting around. Other Things to NoteWe have two dogs who are very friendly and trained to an invisible fence outdoors. Please allow us to introduce you to them before petting them, especially if you have kids. Some children may not be familiar with dog behavior and we want to make sure they are properly introduced.

The SpaceOur little cottage on the pond behind our house was built around 1920. We have recently updated it and kept its beautiful rustic charm. We hope our guests will enjoy all that nature has to offer here. The pond and woods are filled with the peaceful sights and sounds of myriad birds, frogs and wildlife. Guest AccessThe entire cottage is yours for your stay and is very private save for the shared driveway. The path from the driveway parking to the cabin is about 125 ft. This is a family property with three houses including this cottage. Jamie and I live in the front house with our daughter, and Penny lives next door. You are welcome to stop by the house and chat or ask for anything you need. You are welcome to store any kayaks, bikes etc up near the driveway rather than haul them down to the cottage. We will show you the best spot to easily store any equipment you bring. The yard surrounding the cottage and pond is yours to enjoy. Interaction with GuestsEither Jamie, Rose or Penny will greet you. We have some dogs that are friendly greeters as well but they are confined from the driveway by a fence. Sometimes they get out so be aware when pulling in and out of the driveway. We are very easy going and we love the outdoors so you will see us running, biking or paddling in Huntington Park if you decide to go there. I am a willing guide to the trails if I am available. Mostly you will be left on your own unless you need something. The NeighborhoodRedding CT is a peaceful rural and historic town surrounded by similar towns, but each unique in historical, natural and architectural features. Many artists choose this area as home because the of the light and natural beauty. The cottage is nestled between Putnam Park and Huntington Sate Park. There are miles upon miles of great trails in this area and right out side the door step of this cottage! There are many farm stands, wine country tours, antiquing trails and cultural activities. Check out our guidebook for our recommendations of places to eat. Getting AroundYou really need a car. Bethel CT - 15 minutes away is the nearest Metro North train station. This is on the Danbury line that comes off the New Haven Line at South Norwalk. If you are an avid cyclist with light packs you can bring your bike on the train and ride here. Its about 6 miles mostly climbing. You can rent a car in Danbury. Other Things to NoteHeat is provided by wood-stove. We provide wood. We cannot have guests stay for longer than one week. While we love all creatures, please no cats because of allergies.

Interaction with GuestsDepending on arrival we may be around for introduction but will provide a detailed guide. The NeighborhoodRedding is sometimes referred to as the "Vermont of Fairfield County". Large trees, steep hills and numerous parks and protect areas make it a wonderful place to enjoy nature. Several local farms, creameries and orchards can be found in Redding or in the nearby towns of Bethel and Ridgefield. But even with that nature and seclusion Danbury Fair Mall is just 10 minutes down the road and CT's Gold Coast is 25 minutes South. Getting AroundWhile only a mile from the Redding MetroNorth train station having a car is highly recommended, very limited restaurants and no grocery stores are within walking distance.
