The SpaceWe are off the beaten path, three miles up a dirt/gravel road. We have a pretty room up in Northern California, in a private country style home with lovely views - perfect for one couple, the room is not large enough for two separate beds. The bedroom overlooks a small pond and mountain ranges beyond. Includes a home-cooked, fresh and organic breakfast - bring your own coffee, we serve our own and others' teas. You may prepare your other meals in our kitchen - be aware that on weekends the kitchen is jamming with preparation for our farmers market , and the market takes over:) the refrigerator, the counters...may not always be as clear, tidy and navigable as you would like them to be. I recommend staying during the week, or in the middle of the week for the best attention. Speaking of "The Space" the best part of our place is everything outside of the house; the trails, the mountains, the ponds and seasonal waterfalls! Come here to relax and unwind, not stay in a five star hotel, unless that is what you want and this is not that! :) We are friendly, serve great food fresh from our garden, and as accommodating as we sustainably can be. We are close to many vineyards. 2 1/4 hours drive from San Francisco, and 1 1/2 hours from the Pacific Ocean. Near to Montgomery Woods State Park, Orr Hot Springs and the Blue Lakes. This is a working farm, and weekends are our busiest time beginning with Fridays. This means that things may look untidy at times despite the fact that we clean often and regularly. Your room and bathroom will be very clean and tidy- we don't get ready for the farmers market there :) That said during heavy market times the refrigerator is brimming with vegetables complete with farm fresh garden dirt (if my husband hasn't given them a rinse):) Best times to visit us are during the week, it is quieter, we're more available and it is really relaxing. So if you can roll with boxes of veggies and fruit and food fresh picked and cooked for you, you'll really enjoy being here! Seasonal waterfalls are currently flowing! :) (mostly in the winter/rainy season January - March). Please note: We are solar powered and off-grid. We ask that our guests be sensitive to this and be conservative minded. Warm showers are best in the afternoon and evening hours. All the food we prepare is organic. Let us know your special dietary requirements and we'll do our best to accommodate you. We are minutes away from Highway 101 yet you will think you are much further away from civilization when you are here. It is very peaceful. Guest AccessKitchen, guest bathroom and living room. When we have guests in both the house and in the cabin, the guest bathroom is shared. We also have a master bathroom that can be used when necessary. Again, as mentioned, the kitchen can be very busy and full of market vegetables and fruit during farmers market times. It can be tough to navigate through that :) and fun, if you like that sort of thing:) Interaction with GuestsWe love having guests, serving breakfast and the excuse to sit down and share a meal with them :) Other than that, feel free to hike and explore. Our dog Kip may wish to join you, he loves having the company! If you are coming up to get away from people - just let us know and we'll stay out of your hair :) - except for the kitchen during market times! The NeighborhoodPeace and quiet await you. We love the oak savannah terrain, the great neighbors and considering that it is a wildlife area, it is reasonably close to the highway, seventeen minutes because we are on a three mile dirt/gravel road. Our place is best for folks looking to stay somewhere, hike and relax, to forget about driving and just dive into the natural surroundings. We do have some great local restaurants; Mario's and the Broiler and in town in Ukiah, many other choices! Getting AroundThe best way is by car. There is a bus stop at the bottom of our hill. The bus runs twice daily. This is not the best place to come if you're not looking to go back and forth and up and down the dirt road and our neighbors would appreciate less traffic. It is out of the way. It is more of a retreat, and that should be a consideration in coming here. Other Things to NoteWe are not far from Orr Hot Springs and Montgomery Woods State Reserve. Close by to several vineyards two of which are organic: Barra Winery & Tasting Room and Frey Vineyards.

Local restaurants to visit include Patrona, Oco Time, Saucy, Ukiah Brewing Company, Ruen Tong Thai, Marta's Gourmet Cafe, Chop-Chop, Crush, Ellie's Mutt Hut, Schat's Bakery and too many Mexican Restaurants to mention. Check out time is 12:00 noon the next day unless other arrangements are made. You have access to the pool in the warm months, private walking trails in the woods, the garden (seasonal) and wine and chocolate when you arrive! We will interact with our guests as much as they feel comfortable. If you need space, no issue....if you want company or where to find the hidden secrets in Mendocino County....we know them. However it works for you, works for us. This is your vacation. We live in the country on a one lane dirt road. It is quiet and yet close to town (10 minutes). We have a 3 acre walnut orchard, riding arena, great garden on 5 acres and surrounded by much more. It is our slice of northern California heaven. Very blessed! We are located right off Hwy 101, 15 minutes from the town of Ukiah which has a population of 20,000 people. Getting AroundMTA (local bus line) comes within a mile of our house. Other Things to NoteOur house is on a one lane dirt road that has potholes due to the neighbors not wanting to fill them. No issue getting here, just drive slowly please. We added an extra 11% to the fee for our county bedroom tax, so hopefully you will support our efforts in supporting our local economy. Amazing sound system and dead quiet sleeping environment.

The SpaceGreat escape from the City, far from the crowd, yet close enough to civilization. (Highways 101 and 20) Off grid, relaxing cabin with beautiful views. Great for two couples or just one person looking to get away, meditate, walk, write, or just think! Quiet. Let the land speak to you. Smoke free environment. House, cabin and entire property. Our cabin has an upstairs loft with a queen bed. The main room - the first floor of the cabin has a queen sized luxury futon couch, desk and chair, and wood stove. This is a wildlife area, lots of deer, rabbits, coyotes, birds et cetera, so you may wish to bring your binoculars. A warm shower, or bath and toilets are in the main house just a few steps away from the cabin. There are many walking trails on the land and we are near Montgomery Woods State Park and Orr Hot Springs. During the winter and rainy season, there are waterfalls on the property. Breakfast and optional (additional cost) other meals are served in the main house. Food is made from food organically grown on our farm. Enjoy local foods prepared healthfully and with lots of love! ***Ask about our great escape specials with dinner! Because we are off-grid and energy conservation is important, we request a minimum of two nights stay. Thank you. Hosts are two creative individuals who teach, paint, compose music and farm. You can enjoy your private getaway with no hassles. We have one rescue dogs, a McNab (Border Collie mixed breed) named Kip, and three barn cats, all rescues. Kip will probably want to take walks with you :) A wonderful retreat for your heart and soul. Stay for the weekend, a week, a month or longer! Guest AccessGreat hiking trails, seasonal waterfalls, the gardens and our kitchen. We have limited space in the refrigerator, so we ask that weekend guests bring a cooler for themselves. Thank you. Interaction with GuestsWe are here to greet guests and to show them around the cabin. We'll also light a fire (when weather warrants) and we'll be up at our house next morning preparing a hearty breakfast to get you off to a great start for the day! Other than that you are free to walk around the land, hike hunt for wild mushrooms (don't eat what you don't know! :) ) The NeighborhoodI love the views of the neighboring farms, and vineyards. I also enjoy walking along our paths to our ponds. There are some very fun trails that lead to old time ranch roads. Getting AroundThere is plenty of parking on site. Best to drive up with a car, we're on a three mile dirt/gravel road, which is regularly maintained. At the highway exit a few miles away is a bus stop. Other Things to NoteThis is the country, there is wild life here. Come and plan to spend a little time and enjoy your surroundings. We have a handmade redwood ladder up to the loft. It is bolted and very secure, be mindful and don't run up and down the ladder please :)

The SpaceTHE CIVILIZED GET-AWAY FROM CIVILIZATION! Rustic (seriously rustic - see all the photos) & unique cabin 2 levels with decks off every room. Wood insert sole heat source currently. Takes hours to really warm place up, bring your union suit! Propane refrigerator, stove, wall light fixtures, indoor bathroom with hot shower, toilet, sink. Fully equipped kitchen with pots and pans, dishes, utensils, sink. Bedroom has a full/double bed. Living room has a 2 seat sofa bed full/double. Sleeping loft has a full/double bed and two twin beds. Five beds total that can sleep 8. But we only have one bathroom :) ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING RANCH RULES: *****15mph speed limit at all times***** *****When exiting or entering must wait for gate to close completely before taking off***** Please note you may be ticketed otherwise! Prior to Ranch access we need the make, model, color and plate info of all guest vehicles. The forest! Land line with unlimited domestic calls. Please note: the cabin is not, with a capital "N" up to ADA standard. To reach the front door parking is at the bottom of a slope & one must ascend the equivalent of almost 1-1/2 to 2 stories . Over phone email and text In the woods! No public transit. 4x4 required to access in rainy snowy weather. Last 9 miles are rugged forest roads dirt and gravel with potholes and washouts. Not for faint of heart but fun! You are well advised to bring in your food although there is a small convenience store 15 minutes away if you forget anything. There is a gas generator availabke to power the house, gas is complimentary. Quiet hours 11-6 (no generator allowed then) 1 bedroom with full sized bed downstairs and 2 twin beds and full bed in loft upstairs accessible via ladder inside or stairs outside. This is a vintage 1969 rustic off grid cabin & can be great fun for the whole family however please note that it is NOT child proofed in the 21st century sense & there are cleaning solutions, mouse poison, & matches present along with random decorative items, oil lanterns, propane lamps, gasoline (in safety containers), stairs, ladder up and down loft, counters with right angle edges (not rounded) and multiple decks. Also if members of your party are used to a lot of time relating to electronic communications devices none of them will work there. At all. Ever. A 12V record player with tons of true vintage (my Dad's) vinyl much of it from the 60's & 70's is as high tech as it gets. Many board games, a ukulele & lap harp. Books and magazines. A hammock. And near limitless walks and hikes and stunning drives and the lake, creeks & rivers to explore. If you have a telescope bring it - the sky at night is spectacular. UNDER THE DEPARTMENT OF MANAGING EXPECTATIONS: It is so so so important to me to insure, as much as humanly possible, that our guests have a lovely time and appreciate their stay at The Mother Ship. So in the spirit of transparency I need to emphasize that this is an old cabin. Even when it is cleaned it remains old. It gets dusty. It is nestled amongst a forest of trees. There is actual dirt, rotting needles and leaves that dwell just outside on the floor of the forest canopy. This is not a national park - it is the middle of a national forest - The Mendocino National Forest. There are elk, bears, turkey, birds, raccoons, fox, skunk, and of course deer. It is many many many levels above camping or RVing, however it is RUSTIC, FUNKY-60's, OLD, ECCENTRIC & in an incredible location. We also use the cabin when we can & some of our personal stuff is there. It is not "staged" like an immaculate make-believe magazine-page cabin. It is not a "model cabin". It is not in any way shape or form "perfect" or "sterile". It is however our little slice of forest heaven that we would love to share with you, your friends &/or family - if & only if you are good with The Way It Is! We get it professionally cleaned between visits. We have all the linens laundered. If you like something closer to perfection there is even another listing in Lake Pillsbury Ranch that IS actually perfect. And priced accordingly. Ours, we think for what it exactly is, is a good deal! Enjoy! Guest AccessThe whole forest! Swim in our pond on the Ranch! Interaction with GuestsVia email, text & phone. Ranch caretaker at gatehouse assists guests as needed. We have an amazing & great next door neighbor too! The NeighborhoodNature! The stars! Super quiet! Like a time way-back time machine! Please note: we are in a gated off-grid community & on our own 1.2 acres however there are other cabins on our road (although with one exception they are very rarely occupied). THIS CABIN IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MENDOCINO NATION FOREST! Yes, there are animals here. Wild animals. Do not feed them. There are bears, elk, bobcat, rattlesnake, turkey, deer & raccoon. When hiking it is wise to wear a "bear bell" to alert the animals you are coming so as to not startle them. There is no known history in the immediate area of bear attacks or snake bites, but bears are seen on a regular basis & snakes have seen on occasion. Getting Around4wd required when roads are wet or frozen. Otherwise a family car can make it if you take it s l o w! Other Things to NoteThis is a funky '60's cabin made from a kit designed by a disciple of Frank Lloyd Wright allegedly (so we were told). The ranch itself dates way back and used to be a hang out for Hollywood & BevHill types who would fly up to the Gravely Valley Airstrip. Because the cabin is soooo old even when it is clean (and it is professionally cleaned between each visit) it can seem like maybe not super clean, but it actually is. If you encounter actual grunge please please please let me know! Thank you.

Imagine being in this luxurious mountain home surrounded by acres of private land and the Mendocino National Forest.  Enjoy panoramic views of Lake Pillsbury off the expansive back deck and Hull Mountain right at your front door. As you enter this ridge top home, you will immediately be drawn across the large open living space to the grand windows that rise from the floor to the soaring 20 foot vaulted ceiling with breathtaking views. You will enjoy the quiet and solitude of this spacious home once the excitement of the view is absorbed by everyone. This home is very private, being the only house on the cul-de-sac, and within the gated community of Lake Pillsbury Ranch.  While this home is a summertime destination for sun worshipers and water sports enthusiasts, the other seasons of the year bring a different but equally visual and peaceful experience. This area has an exciting past and long history with presidents and hollywood stars because of its spectacular beauty and privacy year round. The spacious fully equipped stainless steel and granite gourmet kitchen with prep island and all the amenities will wow even the most discerning chefs.  On the covered portion of the deck are a gas bar-b-que, café table and chairs, and lounge chairs on the open deck area.  With air conditioning and ceiling fans for summer, or the wood stove assisted by the warmth of passive solar heating on sunny days in the cooler months, you’ll find comfort in this ridge top home. Oh… did I say that you are totally solar powered?? Yes you are, but you will never know it based on all the electronics and appliances in the house!  During the warmer months you may not need indoor activities as the deck and kitchen are usually the social areas, but if you do, there are three TVs, two on the main floor with satellite/DVD/VHS, and one upstairs with a DVD player for the evening movie watchers.  A collection of CDs, DVDs, and VHSs are available if you forget to pack your own.  Wireless internet is provided along with a work station for your laptop. This home is great for two couples/families as it has separate bedrooms/bathrooms on each floor with king beds and living areas, and an additional half bath downstairs. The downstairs bedroom is a suite with master bath, walk-in closet, and jetted tub with lake views. Upstairs, the second bedroom has a slider that opens to a small lanai that allows you to enjoy the majestic views inside or out. The open upstairs loft is spacious and looks out over the lake and mountains through the many windows, with 2 additional beds (one king, one queen) for a house total of up to 8 guests. During the summer, when you are relaxed and ready for outdoor activities, pack your lunch, towels and sun block, and head to the lake. Launch your ski or fishing boat, kayak or canoe and enjoy one of the most special summer lakes in the West. There are several options around the lake to set up day camps, or access the lake for swimming or floating. Lake Pillsbury Resort can provide you with your outing needs of ice, ice cream, drinks, beer, chips and snacks from Memorial Day thru Labor Day, but there are no restaurants, grocery stores or food service in the Lake Pillsbury basin at this time. Best to shop for your needs in Ukiah or the Clearlake area before you make your way into the Lake Pillsbury area. The local Soda Creek store is open most of the year for basic convenience items and is located at the end of the dirt road coming in from Potter Valley. Lake Pillsbury has about 31 miles of shore line, big enough for everyone to enjoy with all the different water sports, but small enough and remote enough to have the lake to yourself during the week.  With the lake surrounded by mountains and forest, you can have the best of both worlds of calm smooth water on the west side, or afternoon breeze on the east side for the sailing enthusiasts. A boat launch ramp is within a few miles of the community, and overnight boat slip usage is available during your stay. From spring thru fall, sunshine will lure you out on to the deck to put your feet up on the rail and relax with your cold drink or hot coffee and take in the panoramic views of Lake Pillsbury and the surrounding forest and mountains. Grab your binoculars and pick out the birds, deer, elk, fox or activity out on the lake.  On warm sunny days, you can take in the gorgeous sunsets, or stay out and watch the evening transform to a breathtaking night of star gazing. See the moon, constellations, and the Milky Way with an intensity most have never experienced. In the spring you can enjoy the lush green meadows, and in fall the colorful turning of the oaks weaved in-between the evergreens.  Bring your mountain bikes or take a long walk through the community roads that will give you choices of 13 miles of easy or advanced walking/biking surfaces.  Explore outside the gates to some historic hiking trails or OHV trails in the national forest just a short drive away.  Other popular activities in the basin include hunting, fishing and hang gliding from the 7000 ft Hull Mountain.  Winter can bring on some snowy fun where the whole Lake Pillsbury basin turns a frosty white.  At 2000 ft, the snow is usually a day or two of entertainment with a 4X4 vehicle highly recommended to enter or exit the area.  Keywords: view, lake, mountains, remote, retreat, private, modern, amenities, luxury, convenience, spacious, deck, fishing, boating, kayaking, hunting, hiking, wildlife, bird watching, sightseeing, star gazing
