The SpaceThe Reikorangi Valley is a beautiful rural part of New Zealand. Away from the city lights the night sky from our home is simply stunning. A great place to relax and catch your breath. Guest AccessOur guests have the choice of two bedrooms and their own bathroom. The bedrooms open out onto the large main deck and have beautiful views. The kitchen and living areas are there for you to use. The private spaces are our bedroom and the office. Also the apartment and space in front of it. Interaction with GuestsWe look forward to meeting you and can give you some good ideas about what you might like to do/visit in our part of the world (depending on your interests). The NeighborhoodWe love living out here in the Valley. It's peaceful but only 10 minutes out of the village of Waikanae and Wellington (NZ's capital city) is 50 minutes away for that city fix. Waikanae has a lovely sandy beach (15 minutes from our place) for the beachcomber. Wander the beach and then relax at any of our cafes - nice. Getting AroundWe are rural and you will need your car to get in and out of the valley. The main trunk line goes through Waikanae and there are regular trains into Wellington. A great day trip and well worth doing. Other Things to NoteIf you are a coeliac we have gluten free bread and spreads for you. There is no additional cost for a couple using both bedrooms. My elderly parent (and cat Monty) live here too. They have an apartment on the far end of the house and their own deck space. We respect their privacy at all times.

The name is a Māori word meaning "The waters of the yellow eyed mullet".The township is about 60km north of Wellington and lies between Paraparaumu, eight km to the southwest, and Otaki, 15km to the northeast. Waikanae is bordered by open farmland and forest, the Tasman Sea and the rugged Tararua Ranges. Together with its neighbouring settlement of Waikanae Beach, the township comprises a quiet locale, popular with families and retirees. Just north of Waikanae is the small community of Peka Peka. The Te Araroa Trail leads through Waikanae. The area surrounding the township is notable for its 5-kilometre long beach and wide river mouth, opposite Kapiti Island which lies four kilometres offshore in the Tasman Sea. The waters between Waikanae Beach and Kapiti Island are a marine reserve, and whales or Hector's dolphins are sometimes spotted on their migration routes through the narrow corridor. The beach itself is composed of black iron sand and is popular for water sports and long walks. Inland, behind Waikanae, are the bush clad Hemi Matenga Reserve, the Tararua Ranges and the Akatarawa Valley, home to a popular conservation park, Staglands Wildlife Reserve. A road through the valley over the Akatarawa Saddle provides a link with the Hutt Valley via Reikorangi and Cloustonville. The headwaters of the Waikanae River form where a number of streams converge in the inland Reikorangi Basin. From here the river runs through a gap in the foothills, across the coastal plain to the sea. The central Waikanae Village includes the Mahara Art Gallery, a health centre, post shop, war memorial hall, a small museum, church, library, hotel, cinema and restaurants. Getting AroundEasy access by car to main routes, beaches and parks. Walking distance to village centre with shops, restaurants and railway station. There is something here for everyone to enjoy. Come, relax, enjoy the experience of the Gardens and peacefull rural setting. Efil Doog Garden ecoPark is located in Cloustonville area of the Akatarawa Valley near Upper Hutt and Waikane. The Akatarawa Valley is a valley in the Tararua Range of New Zealand's North Island. It provides a link from the upper reaches of the Hutt Valley to Waikanae on the Kapiti Coast through rugged hill country. The valley is lowly populated and contains the localities of Reikorangi and Cloustonville. At the Hutt Valley end, the Akatarawa Valley is rugged and the Akatarawa River flows through it. The terrain is less difficult at the Kapiti end, where the Waikanae River flows through part of the valley on its route from its headwaters in the Tararuas to the Tasman Sea, and is met in the valley by tributaries such as the Ngatiawa River and the Reikorangi Stream. Many residents are craftspeople or gardeners, and some gardens are open for public viewing. Also located in the valley is the Staglands Cafe and the Staglands Wildlife Reserve, a conservation project established in 1972. It supports many native and rare birds, insects, and animals in conjunction with the New Zealand Department of Conservation.
