The SpaceBear Inn the Woods Bed and Breakfast, a private, rural retreat, is nestled in the woods in the southwestern part of the Adirondacks. Our rental rooms are part of our lovely home which we enjoy sharing with others. It's cool in the summer (With our air conditioners and fans when needed) and cozy and warm in the winter--heated by our wood furnace. We call it an inn for all reasons, an inn for all seasons! Do you just want to put your feet up and relax? Here is the perfect place to do it whether in the large gathering room (recliners, over-stuffed furniture, entertainment center w/42" HD TV and DVD, books and games to share), OR on lounge chairs in the park-like backyard. The backyard also provides a campfire pit, BBQ grill, picnic table, and ACRES to play lawn games. Are sports your passion? Hiking and biking (we offer 2 bikes to guests) are right out the door. Just down the road you'll find a golf course and tennis courts are 10 min. away. The Kayuta Lake boat launch (5 min. from the house), provides a spot to swim, fish, or boat (a canoe and kayak are available for your use). In the winter, snowmobilers can access 3 major groomed trail systems from feeder trails right from our yard. The backyard hills are super for tubing or tobogganing (again, we offer these "toys" to guests). The BREIA trail system, one of the largest groomed x-country ski trails in the east, has a trailhead just 5 min. away. It's free to the public and great for snowshoers, too! Downhill skiers can find 3 ski areas within a half hours' drive.
The inn is great, too, for those who want to use the inn as a base and venture out to check area activities: historical sites, museums, theaters, state parks, Herkimer Diamond Mines, Turning Stone Casino, antique shops, craftsmen's cottages and shops, Old Forge, (center of the Adirondacks, with its boat rentals, boat cruises, tourist shops, great restaurants, and Water Safari Park)is a short half hour drive. Farther afield you'll find the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain (considered the Smithsonian of the Adirondacks), Baseball Hall of Fame at Cooperstown, Albany with its capital attractions, etc.
And while here, you'll sleep in comfy beds, have the rest of the home for your use(gathering room, kitchen facilities, office w/computer and washer/dryer, backyard with 4 acres surrounded by woods--lawn chairs for relaxing in sun or shade, space for lawn games, campfire pit and BBQ grill and picnic table. Meals can be purchased on request or you can take advantage of the many great restaurants, diners, and cafes found within 10-15 min. Breakfast is NOT included when you rent the entire B&B for your own private use. It can be catered for you if you wish, for $6 per person. It is ALWAYS included when you rent a room or two within the B&B!
Each season brings its own special gifts to Bear Inn the Wood: Spring--watch the baby leaves burst from their buds as everything turns green once more, marvel at the varieties of returning birds to the feeder, listen to the peepers from the pon...Summers--lazy days in the lounge chairs or hammock, fun at the lake, campfires at night cooking s'mores, waiting for the fireflies to appear...Fall--the gorgeous colors of autumn fill the backyard and surrounding area, it's usually still warm during the day for pedaling on country roads, hiking woodsy trails, or paddling on the lake...Winter--lays a carpet of sparkling diamonds in which to play (OR to simply enjoy while on the INSIDE looking OUT), time to curl up by the fireplace with a good book, and then fall asleep between flannel sheets tucked under down comforters.
Easy to locate, Bear Inn the Woods is found 1/2 hour north of the NYS Thruway at exit #31 (Utica) on Rte. 12, then just a short 1/2 mile down our country road. Come to this nature lover's paradise to be pampered in the foothills of the Adirondacks!
