The SpaceThis rustic chic home is the perfect retreat atop the Massanutten Range offering close access to the Shenandoah Mountains and stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains from one of the largest enclosed screened in porches around. Enjoy a BBQ with a large picnic table to accommodate many guests and lounge on the porch swing or couch with a glass of wine and a good book. The home is across the way from the Shenandoah Valley Outfitters offering fun for the whole family with tubing, canoeing and kayaking.
Home highlights include a fully stocked kitchen, stone covered wood-burning fireplace, an indoor/outdoor soaking tub overlooking mountain views, floor to ceiling windows and sliders, flat screen TV (no cable service), Wifi, Roku (Netflix), books, and an additional exposed porch with rocking chairs. Guest AccessNOTE ALL DETAILS REGARDING HOW TO GET IN THE HOME, DIRECTIONS ETC. WILL COME VIA EMAIL THROUGH AIRBNB AFTER BOOKING BUT JUST PRIOR TO YOUR ARRIVAL. Interaction with GuestsI am not on site but I can be reached via phone and email. I am on EST but will do my best to be available at all times. My house manager is local and is the best person to call in case of an urgent need. Her number is listed on the front door and in the instructions you get post booking. The NeighborhoodLuray is a small quaint town with antique shops and a historic walking trial nestled in the heart of the wine region, the Shenandoah Mountains/Skyline Drive and the Shenandoah River. Enjoy the river via tubing, kayaking and canoeing just minutes walking distance from the home at the Shenandoah Outfitters. Don’t miss the world renowned Luray Caverns, (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) centuries in the making, making this National landmark the most popular attraction in Eastern America. Additional attractions for outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers include the Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive with miles of trails and roads to hike, bike and motorcycle tour including trails that intersect with the famous Appalachian Trail. The Caverns Golf Club is a 5-minute drive from this property and is one of the most scenic golf opportunities in the Mid-Atlantic region. High above the banks of this storied river, these 6,499 yards of gently rolling fairways (18-hole, par 72 course), seem to touch the mountain foothills. Nearby Lake Arrowhead is not only the site of the annual Luray Triathlon but provides a beautiful lake backdrop for picnics, swimming and other family activities. The George Washington National Fishing Lake is located just down the road.
The area offers as little or as much as you'd like to do. I highly recommend spending time on the spacious screened in porch especially during peak foliage season--a highlight of the home's features for friend/family gatherings and dinners, reading, enjoying the porch swing, etc.
For extended touring and dining options Sperryville and Washington, VA are within an hour's drive. In Sperryville you'll find several nice restaurants, antique shops and wineries. Washington, VA is the home of the Inn at Little Washington featuring Patrick O'Connell's 5-star award winning and very romantic restaurant.

Free free to reach out to me if you'd like any touring suggestions. I enjoy exploring and have traveled quite a bit in and around the area. Getting AroundHaving a car is a must and 4WD helps in certain areas. FLASHLIGHTS help if you are coming in at night. Bikes are a fun way to get around as well. Please be careful and mindful of traffic as locals may drive fast on country roads. Other Things to NoteRATES:
In high season or other instances a 2-night minimum stay is required. 1-night rentals will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please inquire.
DRIVEWAY/WEATHER/ROADS-- IMPORTANT--PLEASE READ:
THE DRIVEWAY IS VERY STEEP with packed gravel. My technique is getting a running start from before I enter the driveway and then gunning it up the driveway to the top. HOWEVER, I AM NOT endorsing this or guaranteeing that this will work for you. Every car and driver's comfort level is different and if you get half way and feel it's not working for you, please do not push on the gas. It will cause your tires to spin and result in pulling up all of the packed gravel. Just carefully go back down. Please stay away from the drainage pipes and the fence that is blocking off a drop off area. Unless you have 4WD, I recommend parking your car(s) at the bottom of the driveway and walking up. Extra room has been made at the bottom for parking. I do not recommend trying to park low profile vehicles such as sports cars, RVs, trailers or motorcycles in the driveway. However, feel free to inquire about these vehicles to see if we can find parking accommodations nearby.
Please be advised that you have rented a mountainous property. The main and secondary roads are usually paved. However there are many side roads that are gravel or hard packed dirt surfaces. You may experience potholes, ruts, steep inclines and rough terrain. Most front wheel/4WD drive vehicles have no trouble accessing the property from these roads as long as you drive safely and slowly. During inclement weather such as snow or ice you may be required to have 4WD or tire chains. We also recommend Travel Insurance during winter months. We do not give refunds for road conditions that are out of our control.
Trained, well behaved dogs are welcome on a case-by-case basis. Please inquire. However, there will be an ADDITIONAL PET FEE of $50 per pet per stay.
SUGGESTED ITEMS TO BRING:
- DVD movies, books, bottled water, paper products, tin foil, soap/shampoo, trash bags, insect spray, flashlight, charcoal/lighter fluid (there is a GRILL, charcoal only), fire starter bricks/logs, groceries, condiments.
- Bed linens, pillows, blankets and towels
- Fully stocked kitchen (no food items, foil, storage containers, condiments, oils or spices)
- Firewood is not guaranteed but we do our best to provide it (Sept-May).
Due to the location of my home, it is impossible to get standard wifi service. Therefore, I have a wifi hotspot but I cannot guarantee that the service will be as fast or as consistent as standard providers. If you have any issues with it please feel free to contact me and I'll do my best to help. Cell service is generally available depending on your provider and there isn't a landline on the property.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO TAKE YOUR TRASH WITH YOU AND LEAVE AT THE DUMPSTER DOWN THE STREET AT SHENANDOAH OUTFITTERS. Make a left out of driveway, go down less than 1/4 of a mile and you'll see a red building with life vests and paddles lined up. The trash bins are behind the red building. You can drive around the building and just unload from your car right next to the dumpster.
