The SpaceThe GARDEN APARTMENT is built around the interior garden on the first floor of the building. It is lush with greenery from its own plants, and the tree tops from below. The entire apartment has 17 ft. ceilings. The Living Room is “open air” on the side to the atrium side, with security poles high above so no one can “drop in” from the roof.
There are 2 Air Conditioned bedrooms, each with its own ceiling fan, satellite TV, desk, large closet, alarm clock & bathroom with hair dryer.
Bedroom 1 has a Queen bed.
Bedroom 2 has a Double & Twin with trundle.
The 7% tax and cleaning fee are included in our price.
Fresh sheets & towels are provided weekly.
For larger groups you can add the Gallery Apartment - next door, on the same floor. Then you'll have the entire 2nd floor. (See our ad here under Become a Sanjuanero I – The Gallery Apartment), giving you total accommodations for 4 couples and 6 singles.
Guest AccessAmenities include first day toiletries and coffee. You have a coffee maker, Iron & board, and a hair dryer in each bathroom, portable phone with answering machine & free unlimited local calls, and complimentary high speed Wifi throughout the apartment. Interaction with GuestsI live on the 3rd floor of the building, so I’m around for emergencies, and if you arrive late night, it will be me who receives you. Other than that, my staff downstairs at Boveda 7 days a week, 10am – 6pm can help with concierge services and recommendations, so you are not abandoned. The NeighborhoodOld San Juan is a UNESCO World Heritage site, literally dripping with charm; unique because you can actually enjoy the romance of its cobblestone streets, 16th century buildings, forts, palaces, legendary cultural events, shopping and nightlife, from your own apartment in an historic building, on the prime and most secure block, in the middle of the gallery / shopping district; bustling during the day, and quiet at night.
We are on Cristo St., between San Francisco & Fortaleza: 1 block from the Governor’s Mansion so there are 2 policemen on the corner 24/7.
The building is surrounded by historic monuments.
We are 1 block north of the Cristo Chapel, Pigeon Park, and La Fortaleza.
One block west is the Plaza de Armas, where you'll find cafes, grocer and drug stores.
Getting AroundSJU is an international airport, so there are always cabs (usually van size) 24/7.
If you are staying in San Juan, you won’t need a car. Old San Juan is only 8 sq. blocks, and you are right in the center. 1 block away, in the Plaza, there is a stop for the free trolleys that go around San Juan, and taxi a stand.
If you want to go exploring outside San Juan, you can join one of the tour groups, or rent a car. We have all the major car rental agencies. The closest & cheapest is Budget, and …they’ll pick you up.
HOW ABOUT PARKING?
Finding parking in Old San Juan can be challenging. On street parking is free, and although it may not be right in front of the building, you will find something. If you prefer, there are several reasonable pay parking lots within a few blocks. See locations on last photo/map.
Other Things to NoteWHERE'S THE BEACH?
The nearest great Blue Flag beach, Escambron, (which you can look up) is a 5 min bus or cab ride or a long interesting walk away. If you walk, you pass San Cristobal Fort, then continue along the ocean; passing the monument Plaza to San Juan Baptista, The Capitol building, the famous “El Hamburger” local restaurant, and the lovely Munoz Rivera Park.
Most people prefer to stay in Old San Juan and "travel" to the beach rather than the other way around, because everything else you want to do or see is here, and there's no traffic coming into Old San Juan, during the day.
It is not uncommon for powewr or water to go out without notice. We have a cistern on the roof which will provide water for the building for several days if everyone's careful. There is no remedy however for power failure. We cannot be responsible for loss of city services.
