The SpaceThree beds are in the South-America themed room. The bottom bunk has a firm pillow-topped double mattress while the top is a soft twin. The other bed is a double and has a 5” cotton futon mattress with a 1.5” memory foam topper. If you have a baby, we can also put a pack n’ play up in your room.
We are a mixed-race couple that has visited 50 countries. During our travels, we learned many hospitality practices which we have incorporated into our home. We have also taught ballroom dance in several countries. We will gladly provide a 30-minute lesson to you during your stay. If you would like more/extensive lessons during your stay, cost is $100 per hour and can be shared with up to 3 other couples.
Many guests visit our area's natural food producers to organize for their year's supply of meat to be delivered to their home. Pastured bison, beef, pigs, lamb are all within twenty minutes of our house, along with farmer's markets and CSAs.
Our house decor reflects our travel, as does our cooking. If you love ethnic foods from around the world, we can talk about cooking or teach you some of our favorite dishes: Nepalese dhal bhat, Indian idlis and sambar, Vietnamese pho, Malaysian laksa, and Trinidadian curry crab and dumplings are some examples.
Beautiful Green Lake, Wisconsin's deepest lake that is uniquely home to both a cold water and a warm water fishery, is six miles down the road. Boat rental and jet ski rental is available from several resorts, as well as fishing guides. We have a canoe you are free to use. In the winter, we have nicely groomed cross-country ski trials and snow shoeing opportunities within minutes of the house. When snow is not on the ground, we have bike trails that radiate for miles and country roads which are also pleasant to bike on. Ripon is a beautiful historic town (birthplace of the Republican Party - Abraham Lincoln was the first Republican president) with a well-preserved downtown, tasty eateries, and a 150-year old college, all within four blocks from our home. Oshkosh, known as Wisconsin's City of Events, is 18 miles down the road, and, among other events, hosts the Experimental Aircraft Association gathering, the largest of its kind in the world, every summer for ten days. Miller's Tavern is two blocks away, where a rum and coke costs $2 and where they serve award winning wings. A must-visit restaurant named The Treasury lies four blocks away in the historic downtown. A night out here in Ripon is quite affordable. Guest AccessIn addition to your private air-conditioned room, you have full access to our game library (Puerto Rico, Munchin, Risk, Monopoly, and 15 others), kitchen, dining room, living room, laundry room, exercise room, library (I'll lend you my complete collection of Strangers in Paradise graphic novels - everyone should have the chance to be introduced to the medium through this series), and the following equipment: Cross country skis (two pairs - boots are 10Men and 10Women), snow shoes (two pairs - 200 lb capacity), ice skates (two pairs - size 10Men and 10Women), adult bicycles (two) with trailer that holds two children and with a tag-along that holds one child, two fishing poles, one canoe, red radio flyer wagon that holds two kids, charcoal grill and picnic table, bouncy house that holds up to 12 children, 14-foot diameter 3-feet deep pool, small playground with two slides, two full sets of backpacking gear including 2 backpacking tents that sleep seven and 2 sleeping bags and 4 backpacks and 4 thermarest mattresses and two (car camping) cots and a large cooler and a cookstove. Interaction with GuestsWe are willing to interact with you to the point your needs are met. If that means dinner, drinks, dancing, ping pong, and a tour of the area together (and we are available!), we would love to. If that means our only interaction is we hand you a key to the house when you arrive, that is also fine. If you would like private ballroom dance lessons, we provide those for a reasonable fee. We are flexible. The NeighborhoodThe beautiful old homes - relaxing walking tours. Lots of parks for kids to play, including disc golf. Good public library with children's play section. Huge scenic dog park with separate space for small dogs. County parks with miles of boardwalks and walking trails through marsh and woods. County parks with miles of biking trails that connect small towns. Historic downtown with antique stores and restaurants just three blocks from our house. Wisconsin's deepest lake is six miles away in Green Lake - lots of beaches and CLEAN water. Wisconsin's largest weekly outdoor flea market is in Princeton, just 25 minutes down the road. If you make it there for the flea market, make sure you try the monster burger at the American Legion post on the edge of Princeton. Princeton is a mecca of antique stores. Getting AroundYou can walk everywhere in town, or even to nearby towns accessed by forested trail or by country road. I particularly enjoy the twelve mile walk from Ripon to Berlin through the nature preserves. Taxi service is available, or you can bicycle (we can provide 2 adult bikes and a children's trailer that holds 2 and a children's tag-along that holds one). Other Things to NoteWe are a mixed-race couple with a 1-year old and a 7-year old, and a puppy. We will be living in the house with you. Other guests may also be here at the same time as we have more than one listing, plus many friends from around the world and the states who visit.
