The SpacePrairie City Oregon is at the eastern end of the beautiful John Day Valley on the main stem of the John Day River with its headwaters originating in the Strawberry and Blue mountains, right in front of you 10 miles. It is one of the few remaining classic American towns that has not been box stored or ‘discovered’. Mountain hiking, bike riding, fishing, swimming, old fashioned original american town life, summer farmers market, orchards, fossil beds and tours, clean air and little traffic. Unique, beautiful and removed. Excellent cafe downstairs for breakfast or lunch. Fully insulated and quiet. Two other nice restaurants in town for dinner or John Day is to the west 15 minutes away. You may call to be listed for possible cancellation.) The two highways to John Day are Hwy 26, east/west and Hwy 395 north/south. Prairie City is 14 miles east of John Day on Hwy 26. This is a classic simple american town with a couple of very nice shops and restaurants. It is an easy drive in every direction from mountains, rivers, lakes, parks, bike runs, x-country skiing, fossil beds, orchards and a couple of other very neat small towns located down valley. The population in this county is the same as it was in 1956 yet only a click away from the outside world in many ways. The SpaceThere is a two night minimum. This is one of four homes we have in the valley. This home is good for just a couple or up to a group of 10. The price does vary according to how many are staying. The $125.00 + 9% tx is the base rate up to 3 persons. It increases $30 per night per person after 3, including children. i.e.: 4 persons - 2 nights is $310 etc. Dogs are limited to two and are $10 per night each. There is a $50 cleaning fee we charge at our discretion which may be waived if the place is left OK. We have only charged a cleaning fee a few times. Any serious clean up or over 2 hours, or unwarranted damage will be charged on the held card number. Go directly to john day valley rentals or vacation rental by owner on line for more information. Solar Eclipse rate for August (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) Guest AccessThe John Day Valley is located in Eastern Oregon, approximately 135 miles east of Bend, Ore & 190 miles east of Boise, Idaho & 100 miles south of Pendelton, Ore. & 75 miles North of Burns, Ore. The two highways to John Day are Hwy 26, east/west and Hwy 395 north/south. Prairie City is 14 miles east of John Day on Hwy 26. This is a relatively untouched country in many ways and till considered "Frontier' because of fewer than 2 persons per sq. mile. There are many back roads and 'circle' drives around the entire county and close enough to other great sites for reasonable day trips or over nights, such as the Steens Mountain/Alvord desert country. The home is in front of the Strawberry Mt. wilderness country and quite spectacular and accessible to several wilderness areas and mountain hiking and hunting. The John Day river system, the last undamned system in the US, provides great fishing and swimming. It is in easy driving distance from most all the sites in the basin including the main, south, north and middle forks of the John Day River, Magone Lake, Murderers Creek, Bear Valley, and the Strawberry and Aldrich Mts. and Blue Mts. look out towers, Kimberley Orchards for picking, fishing, swimming and picnicking, the John Day fossil beds and museum, several swimming holes and hunting, hiking, cycling and winter events. And do forget Magoon Lake, hidden in the Mts. No. of the valley. Interaction with GuestsWe only interact with guests to answer questions about the valley or trouble shoot the premises. You are pretty much on your own. The home is entirely furnished. All you need is your suitcase or back packs and groceries. The NeighborhoodPrairie City is ideally located at the eastern end of the John Day Valley directly in front of Strawberry Mt. range. The town is not new fangled or box stored. It is healthy mom and pop and we leave our keys in the car. The local shops and restaurants are purely local and very well done for both the locals or visitors. Getting AroundEasy open very low traffic roads also good for biking. Nothing is to far when one is not sitting in crawling city traffic. Other Things to NoteThis country is kicked back and easy going. You can walk slowly and say "Hi", really. Chucks Diner next door, is very good for breakfast and lunch and the Oxbow is a good dinner house, just up the street. The best antique store in the valley is right across the street.
