The SpaceClose to town (San Isidro) yet a rural mountain hamlet, the River Casita is situated on the road to Mt. Chirripo National Park and the Thermal Waters (Aguas Thermales.) The River Casita is on the first floor fully enclosed with double locking front door and bars on all windows. Both the walk-in gate and the drive-in gates are locking. River Casita is located on a gravel road that leads to the pulperia (mini-super) which is stocked with all the necessities and open 10-12 hours each day. For those who don't care to have a car, our bus stop is located at the pulperia, less than a 4 minute walk from your door. Buses come and go several times a day from San Gerardo (foothills of Mt. Chirripo) and San Isidro, the town center which is a fast growing city that has all manner of services and health needs. Recent national statistics show San Isidro to be the fastest growing and safest (from crime) of all major Costa Rican cities. The casita has a combination living/dining room, a kitchen equipped with fridge and stove/oven as well as all the utensils and cookware to prepare and have your meals. The bedroom has an adjoining bathroom with hot water shower, your towels and bed linen. In addition to the double bed, a memory foam sofa bed is available for your use. Guest AccessThere is gated parking on the premises and fruit bearing trees on the property (help yourself!) Wifi internet is available; there is an internet cafe in Rivas. For those with a car, there is gated, locked parking on the premises. Interaction with GuestsI live in an adjacent house on the property and am very accessible when you need me (most of the time.) I enjoy my privacy and will give you yours as well. The NeighborhoodWe have two Farmer's Markets (Feria)... our very own on Wednesdays within walking distance and a larger one in San Isidro on Thursdays where local produce and organic products are plentiful. Get aged cheese from Quesos Canaan, organic desserts from a local Chocolate Factory and enjoy the beauty of the Secret Gardens all within a half hour drive up the mountain in neighboring villages. Buy salad fixings and eggs from your neighbors. Eat oranges, mandarina, banana, plantains and water apple from the trees on your grounds. Feel healthier and freer than you've ever felt enjoying the Pura Vida in the safe and charming barrio of San Francisco de Rivas. Getting AroundA bus from San Gerardo to San Isidro passes six times a day and a bus from Rivas to San Isidro goes both directions every 45 minutes. For those driving, expect to get to San Isidro in about 20 minutes and uphill to San Gerardo in about 30 minutes. San Isidro has an excellent bus and taxi system, easy to use and accessible. Plenty of banks in town to change your money and all services you might need you'll find in San Isidro. Other Things to NoteAs most rural central American communities, San Francisco's working folks use motorbikes to get to and from work. Expect to hear some motor noises in the morning (starting around 6:00 to 7 am) and again at the end of the work day. You'll also see some neighborhood domestic animals on the grounds and we ask that you not feed or take them in. They have their own homes, and are just out exploring.

The SpaceNewly constructed in 2014, the Mango Loft is hidden in nature yet near San Isidro de el General. Get a bird's eye view from the second story loft and look a hummingbird in the eye. Views of Mt. Chirripo and other mountains on clear mornings. You will have a full, furnished apartment with fridge and stovetop, wifi, hot water, outdoor patios and gardens, gated locked onsite parking, public river access just across the street... linens, dishes, cooking ware and basic kitchen appliances. The best part of living here is the sound of the rushing Rio Chirripo 24/7. We are well located at 3000 feet (1000 meters) elevation and enjoy cool nights and mornings. This is a family community with lots of friendly smiles coming and going... local salad and veggies vendors come by weekly.... the pulperia carries all the basics and is open every day. Chirripo Farmer's Market a short walk on Wednesdays. This is a family friendly place you can live economically without a car. Just four minute walk to bus stop to take you to San Isidro for shopping or to San Gerardo for Aguas Thermales and Mt. Chirripo. In San Isidro the Musoc bus has hourly busses to San Jose (three hour ride, $7). There are also local buses in San Isidro to go to any neighboring towns, villages and sites. The taxi system is excellent in San Isidro and very reasonable. Ask for a bus schedule between San Isidro and San Francisco de Rivas... they go every three hours from 5:45 am to 8 pm If you are a late sleeper, you might want to bring ear plugs! The morning sounds get going around 6:30 to 7 am. Guest AccessThere is gated parking on the premises and fruit bearing trees on the property (help yourself!) Wifi internet is available. There is an internet cafe in Rivas. For those with a car, there is gated, locked parking on the premises. Interaction with GuestsI live in an adjacent house on the property and am very accessible when you need me (most of the time.) I enjoy my privacy and will give you yours as well. The NeighborhoodDon't miss the our local Chirripo Feria on Wednesdays next to the school in Chimirol. And San Isidro Farmer's Market (Feria) on Thursdays where local produce and organic products are plentiful. Get aged cheese from Quesos Canaan, organic desserts from a local Chocolate Factory and enjoy the beauty of the Secret Gardens all within a half hour drive up the mountain in neighboring villages. Buy salad fixings and eggs from your neighbors. Eat oranges, mandarina, banana, mango, plantains and star fruit from the trees on your grounds (when in season). Two restaurants are walkable - Pura Vida open everyday except Tuesday and Buona Pizza open Thurs - Sunday. Feel healthier and freer than you've ever felt enjoying the Pura Vida in the safe and charming barrio of San Francisco de Rivas. Our community has a variety of dogs and cats that do not respect fences or gates. If you see a dog or cat (other than Tigre) on the property please do not feed it or give shelter. They do have a home even if they try to convince you otherwise. Other Things to NoteUnlike the more touristy areas, merchants in our area prefer Costa Rican colones. Some will not accept dollars. Change your money in a bank or financial coop for the best exchange rate. Basic rule of thumb for the value of Costa Rican colorful bills: drop the three zeros and multiply by 2 for U.S. dollar equivalent. For example a red bill worth 1,000 colones is $2; a blue bill worth 2,000 colones is worth $4, etc. Rates are approximate and depend on posted exchange rate which can change daily.

We call it the Mango Loft because it is second floor and surrounded by blooming banana and mango trees, offering shade and fresh fruit. The Mango Loft is brand new, completed in 2014 with solar hot water, new appliances including gas stove, convection and microwave ovens and full size fridge. A cork floor, bamboo furniture and large screened windows keeps it close to nature and sustainable. It has front and back locking doors, gated parking, and a couple of outside landscaped patios for your enjoyment. Pots & pans, dishes, all utensils are stocked plus linens and towels. The Chirripo River flows just a stone's throw away providing lots of cool breezes as well as meditative water flow 24/7. RIver access is just outside our gate... enjoy swimming, wading, rock collecting, soaking up the energy of the big ancient boulders in the river bed. From your kitchen window you have a view of Mt. Chirripo, the highest peak in Costa Rica. The property is approximately 3000 feet in altitude on the road that connects Rivas with San Gerardo in Perez Zeledon (southern zone.) A five minute walk across the river bridge takes you to well stocked pulperia and bus stop to the city district of San Isidro or to San Gerardo. The cabin is about a 20 minute drive from the city of San Isidro del General. Another 30 minute drive to Aguas Thermales (Hot Springs Mineral Pool) and the Chirripo National Park. Kayaking in April, May, November and December. Dominical beach, great for surfing and sunsets, is a little over an hour's drive. If you enjoy being close to nature, love the sound of a robust river flowing, prefer living in natural and sustainable construction, the Mango Loft is for you. Another advantage is accessibility by bus... no car is necessary. Staples are available at the pulperia and you can request meals cooked by your neighbor if you want typical Costa Rican cooking. You can get anywhere by bus with just a five minute easy walk across the river bridge to the the bus stop. The Mango Loft is safe; there is no crime in our little community of San Francisco de Rivas. Warning: you will hear motorcycles as the villagers go to and from work and school, between 6:30 and 7:30 am and again 5 to 7 pm. During mid December to mid April, a one month minimum stay is required at the monthly rate of $400. If less than 1 months, the weekly rate is $250 and monthly rate is $500. There is a security deposit of $100 required for stays over a month that will be refunded at the end of the stay. Barrio San Francisco de Rivas, 20 minutes northeast of San Isidro de El General (aka Perez Zeledon). San Francisco is a small rural community with one road that goes in and out so we have no through traffic. The road from San Isidro to the entrance of Barrio San Francisco is paved with about 400 meters of gravel road leading up to the Mango Loft property. This is a very small community with no businesses or attractions that would bring in people who do not live here. All the neighbors know one another and many are related. The outstanding feature of San Francisco is the beautiful and powerful Rio Chirripo. Across from our property is an access ramp where you can stand on the edge of the river, wade, collect river stones, sit on the big rocks and watch the whitewater crash around you. Our section of the river is a Class IV/V whitewater river. Just outside San Francisco in Chimirol is a fine homemade Pizza restaurant and on the road to San Gerardo, you will find bars, sodas and restaurants. About a half hour's drive you can go to the Aguas Thermales in Herradura, and the town of San Gerardo where hikers begin their summit of Mt. Chirripo. San Gerardo has many tourists visiting the National Park or Cloudbridge Nature Preserve. There is an internationally known swiss style cheese factory nearby and a chocolatier shop a short way up the road. Transportation to San Francisco de Rivas is by bus or by car. Either way, you'll follow signs for Chirripo National Park taking the Rivas Road through Rivas and past the small village of Guadalupe and to the green pulperia, El Paso. There is a right turn into Barrio San Francisco at Abastecedor El Paso that takes you across the narrow bridge and to the gate of our property. We have parking spaces inside a locked gate. To come by bus, get the bus marked "Rivas/Canaan/San Gerardo" at the central market bus station and ask the driver to tell you when to get off at San Francisco.

The Chirripo River flows just a stone's throw away providing lots of cool breezes as well as meditative water flow 24/7. We then leave you to enjoy the rushing Talari River, tropical birdsong, and peace and quiet of this magical mountain valley. We live on the property and are available 24/7 should you have questions or need assistance. We may see you at mealtimes, if chef services are ordered, and we are happy to provide maps and info to help you explore the surrounding area. The NeighborhoodFinca Mia sits in a rural mountain valley whose main attraction is Chirripo National Park. The park features Costa Rica's highest peak, Mount Chirripo. A trail to the Chirripo trailhead ascends the ridge directly across the gravel road from our farm's entrance. (Climbing Chirripo is typically a two-day trek and requires permits which may be obtained locally.) Other nearby attractions include: • Day hike to Cloudbridge Nature Reserve (website hidden) • Day hike to natural hot springs • Hike and optional tour & tasting at Samaritan Xocolata, a small, organic, artisan chocolate factory. (URL HIDDEN) hidden) • Hike and optional cheesemaking tour & cheese tasting at Quesos Canaan • Day trip to the weekly Famer's Market in San Isidro de General -- this large, bustling, authentically local market is open every Thursday & Friday and boasts abundant organic produce, jewelry, fresh juices, and other tasty treats! Here's a video from the market that a random traveler posted on YouTube in June 2014, enjoy! (website hidden) • Day trip to popular surf towns of Uvita and Dominical (less than two hours by car) • Evening bonfires around our outdoor firepit may be arranged upon request. • Paragliding, horseback riding, ziplining and fishing outings may also be arranged upon request. Getting AroundIf you're driving your own vehicle, we have free parking at the farm in an enclosed area with a locked gate for overnight security. Buses to San Isidro de General arrive and depart daily from/to San Jose. From San Isidro, guests may hire a taxi to drive them directly to Finca Mia (25 minutes) or take the local bus from San Isidro to Canaan de Rivas and walk the remaining leg to Finca Mia (about a half-hour walk up a rocky gravel road featuring two bridge crossings, grazing cows, & stunning views!) Guests will be provided with exact driving directions once their reservation is confirmed. Other Things to Note• 24/7 Free Wifi: At Finca Mia, we encourage guests to enjoy the opportunity to relax, rejuvenate and unplug during their visit to our farm -- and we know that they may want or need to keep in touch with the outside world via email and the internet. Therefore, free wifi is available 24/7 in designated community spaces on our property (but not in individual cabinas as they are too far away from the signal). • Laundry: we offer laundry services for $10 per load line-dry and $15 per load electric-dry. What To Bring: • Layers! Up here in the mountains, you'll find that the evenings are deliciously cool compared to down on the coast. Pack a few long layers (hoodies, beanies, yoga pants, socks) for evenings and mornings (long sleeves and pants also help keep the bugs at bay during dawn and dusk hours!) • Bug Spray: speaking of bugs, our farm is in the jungle so yes, there are a few bugs! Deet-free insect repellant is best for you and the environment. • Hiking Shoes: you're welcome to go barefoot here and if you like to get out and hike, we have plenty of room to do it! Much of the terrain here is hilly and rocky so shoes with good tread and ankle support are recommended. • Flashlight/Head Lamp: It's very dark here at night, making for amazing after-dinner stargazing! Pack a flashlight or head lamp to carry with you after dark so you may safely traverse the pathways on our property. • Please let us know if you have pets and we can discuss the possibility of you bringing them with you. • Smoking is allowed in outdoor areas on the grounds -- please clean up all remains, thanks! We expect our guests to treat our cabinas, community spaces and gardens with the same care and respect they show their own homes and lands. Gracias!

Every Dollar helps them and a donation is a great way to show your appreciation. They have a trail that cuts over to the Chirripo trail so can do more exploring. There are other attractions like the Secret Gardens, the Orchid farm and some not so famous Hot Springs, where you might just be the only non local soaking it up. The people are very friendly in this neck of the woods and crime is in general not an issue. Getting AroundBY CAR: Best with a 4x4, but doable without. The road is mostly paved and otherwise in generally good condition, but it does get bumpier past our property towards the Chirripo National Park entrance and trails. BY BUS: There is a direct bus running 6 times from San Isidro de General to San Gerado de Rivas, please check bus times with us. BY PRIVATE TRANSPORTATION: We can also arrange for private transportation from the main bus stations in San Isidro de General at an additional cost. Other Things to NoteStaying longer? Getting Around If you're driving your own vehicle, we have free parking at the farm in an enclosed area with a locked gate for overnight security. Gracias! Diana: "Finca Mia was the most magical place I visited in Costa Rica, and I couldn't have been happier with my choice to stay there. It was soulful elegance and the most beautiful sited retreat center I have ever visited. From the gorgeous yoga studio to the awesome boulder in our cottage, every inch of Finca Mia was sweet sanctuary." From Portland, OR · July 2016  ·  Honeymoon Cabin Cassandra "Our hosts were very welcoming and made us feel very comfortable and safe. Catherine gave us all the info we inquired about and didn't leave us hanging on anything. Our cabin was cozy and everything was in good condition. Our hosts gave us a tour of the farm and the other cabins which was really nice and we got to taste star fruit and goose berries straight from the plants themselves : ) The food was amazing and very nurturing. Lots of fresh veggies and fruits prepared with care and skill. We were very excited for dinner time: ) The cabin and surroundings were just as shown in the pics and actually the view from the balcony was better than expected. We were right next to the river which lulled us to sleep and it was perfectly quiet and private. This was a cool and refreshing retreat after being in the coast for 10 days. We were fond of the resident dogs and one of them, Lola walked us to our car when we left. One of the local men who was working on the farm (I forget his name) also opened the gate for us as we left and sent us on our way with a smile. The locals here in this area were particularly friendly as well which we didn't experience on the coast nearly as much. This farm was a warm environment in the cool mountains with beautiful surroundings and great food. I would recommend a trip to the hot springs if you have a car. We were well taken care of and recommend this place for a reclusive get away or a retreat experience." From Calgary, Canada · June 2016  ·  Honeymoon Cabin TirzahJoy "Our time at Finca Mia was relaxing, rejuvenating and enlightening. We had the privilege of being able to spend two nights at this oasis in the cloud jungles of Costa Rica, and loved meeting Michelle, Ian and their energetic lively sons. We loved the honeymoon cabin and thoroughly enjoyed the kitchenette and porch, but lying in bed listening to the thunderstorms will forever stay with us. Thank you all so much for the delicious meals and beautiful retreat. We hope to visit again." From Portland, OR · May 2016  ·  Honeymoon Cabin Jay "The local caretakers, Alvaro and Neni, could not have been any nicer or more helpful with everything. They made our stay even more special. The cabin was just what we were looking for. Very private and close to the river. It is beautifully built and has all the amenities needed to be comfortable. We hiked the grounds and enjoyed a refreshing dip in the cold and clean river water. We were fortunate to have the place to ourselves, as there were no yoga groups visiting at the time. It was very peaceful and relaxing. The area is isolated in a very good way, but yet has a small market, artisan cheese and chocolate shops within a reasonable walk from the property. Given the unpaved roads as you get close to the finca, a 4 wheeled drive vehicle is highly recommended. Communication was fantastic by email with Catharine. And her detailed directions with pictures made the drive easy. Recommend arriving before dark, given the combination of paved and unpaved roads. My wife and I wished we could have booked more than 2 nights, as this was our favorite experience during our 8 day trip to Costa Rica. Very highly recommended and hope to return for more nights next time we visit." From Redlands, CA · May 2016  ·  Honeymoon Cabin James "This farm is perfect if you want to be surrounded by nature. Very peaceful and clean. Everyone was very friendly. Overall a beautiful place! We will definitely revisit!" From Costa Rica · April 2016  ·  Honeymoon Cabin Rob "The honeymoon cabin is a fantastic place, huge deck where you can enjoy the sound of the river, comfortable king size bed, and good spaces for our 3-year old to play."
